Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: After the Awakening

Naruto: The Second Chance of Obito Uchiha

Chapter 24: After the Awakening

The northern battlefield had finally fallen silent.

The clash between Konoha and Kumogakure had ended with both sides withdrawing to recover.

The mountains still carried the damage from the battle.

Cratered earth.

Broken trees.

The marks of Lightning Release.

The battlefield had changed, but the war had not.

Inside Konoha's medical camp, Rin remained unconscious.

The attack from A had caused severe injuries.

Even with her advanced medical knowledge and the support of other medical ninja, her body needed time to recover.

She had pushed herself beyond her limits protecting wounded soldiers.

Now she was forced to rest.

A medical ninja carefully checked her condition.

"Her injuries are stable."

"But she cannot return to combat anytime soon."

Obito stood outside the tent, listening.

His fists tightened.

He had awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan because he thought he was about to lose her.

But that did not change the reality.

Rin had been hurt because the battlefield was dangerous.

Because their enemies were monsters.

Kakashi approached.

"You should sleep."

Obito didn't move.

"I almost lost her."

Kakashi looked toward the medical tent.

"I know."

For once, there was no argument.

No rivalry.

No insults.

Only two teammates who understood how close they had come to losing someone important.

Later, Minato called Obito and Kakashi to the command tent.

The atmosphere inside was serious.

Several reports were spread across the table.

"The Cloud forces have withdrawn from this area."

Kakashi studied the map.

"Because of their losses?"

Minato shook his head.

"No."

"Because they achieved what they wanted."

Obito looked up.

"They were testing us."

Minato nodded.

"A and Killer B weren't trying to destroy our army."

"They wanted information."

"About our defenses."

"About our response time."

"And about our strongest fighters."

Minato looked at Obito.

"And now they know about your Mangekyō."

Obito was silent.

The thought bothered him.

A power that was supposed to protect his friends had revealed him as a greater threat.

Minato noticed his expression.

"Obito."

"Having a powerful ability doesn't decide who you are."

"Your choices do."

Obito looked at him.

Those words stayed with him.

Across the battlefield, inside Kumogakure's temporary camp…

A and Killer B reviewed the same battle reports.

A studied the information carefully.

"The Uchiha awakened his Mangekyō during combat."

B tapped his foot against the ground.

"New eyes appeared when danger was near,

A warrior's heart showed no fear.

Fool, ya fool!"

A ignored the rhyme.

"He did not use it recklessly."

"He used it to protect his teammate."

B became quiet.

That detail mattered.

A looked toward the map.

"The Leaf's young shinobi are growing faster than expected."

B smiled.

"Strong bonds make strong fighters,

Friends become the best igniters.

Fool, ya fool!"

A nodded slightly.

"But strength alone does not win wars."

He placed a marker on the map.

"The next battle will be decided by strategy."

Back at Konoha's camp, Obito sat beside Rin's medical tent.

He watched the entrance quietly.

He remembered another life.

A life where he arrived too late.

A life where the people closest to him were lost one by one.

But this time…

Rin was alive.

Kakashi was alive.

Minato was alive.

The future had changed.

Several hours later, Rin finally opened her eyes.

The first thing she saw was Obito sitting beside her.

"You look terrible."

Obito blinked.

Then he laughed softly.

"That's your first comment?"

Rin smiled weakly.

"You've been awake all night, haven't you?"

Obito looked away.

"I was making sure you were okay."

Rin's expression softened.

"Obito…"

"I'm fine."

He nodded.

But neither of them said what they were both thinking.

The battle had been too close.

Outside the tent, Kakashi watched quietly.

He noticed something different.

Obito wasn't acting like the reckless teammate he knew.

The boy who always wanted recognition.

The boy who rushed into danger.

Now he was someone who carried responsibility.

Minato stood at the edge of the camp, looking toward the distant mountains.

The war had already changed.

Iwagakure had stepped back.

Kumogakure had revealed its strongest fighters.

And Obito Uchiha had awakened a power that would influence the battlefield.

But Minato also understood something important.

A powerful eye could change battles.

A strong heart could change history.

And Obito's heart…

Was the reason this future was different.
