Naruto: The Second Chance of Obito Uchiha

Chapter 19: The Yellow Flash and the Uchiha

Lightning split the sky above the northern mountains.

Two battles raged simultaneously.

On one battlefield, Minato Namikaze faced General Gansui, one of Iwagakure's strongest commanders.

On the other, Team Minato stood against two elite Kumogakure jonin and dozens of veteran shinobi.

Neither battle could be lost.

The armored Kumogakure jonin wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth.

"You forced me to take this seriously."

His chakra erupted, coating his body in Lightning Release Armor.

Blue lightning danced across his skin.

The pressure alone cracked the stone beneath his feet.

Beside him, the twin-sword jonin raised both blades.

"Let's finish them."

Without another word, the two disappeared.

"Kakashi!"

"They're splitting up!" Obito shouted.

"I've got the swordsman!" Kakashi replied.

Obito nodded.

"Then the armored one is mine."

The impact of the first punch shook the entire valley.

Obito crossed both arms to block.

The force launched him through three trees before he finally stopped.

His arms trembled.

"…He's even stronger than before."

The armored jonin smiled.

"You've survived longer than most."

The jonin attacked relentlessly.

Each punch was backed by Lightning Release.

Each kick could shatter stone.

Obito dodged one strike.

Blocked another.

But the third clipped his shoulder, sending him skidding across the ground.

Rin immediately reached him.

"Hold still."

Green chakra surrounded his shoulder.

Obito stood before the healing was complete.

"I don't have time."

Rin frowned.

"You'll make it worse."

"If I stop moving…"

"He'll kill us."

Nearby, Kakashi was struggling just as much.

The twin-sword jonin refused to give him enough distance to use Chidori.

Every attempt was interrupted.

The enemy laughed.

"So that's your famous technique?"

"I'll never let you use it."

Kakashi silently analyzed every movement.

Looking for one opening.

Just one.

Miles away…

General Gansui slammed his hammer into the earth.

"Earth Release: Continental Wall!"

An enormous ridge of stone burst from the ground, crushing everything in its path.

Leaf shinobi scattered in every direction.

Minato disappeared in a flash of yellow.

Reappearing atop the stone wall, he threw three Flying Thunder God kunai.

Gansui smirked.

"I know your tricks."

The giant commander shattered all three with his hammer.

Minato smiled.

"Those weren't the ones that mattered."

A seal appeared beneath Gansui's feet.

Minato instantly teleported behind him.

Rasengan!

The spiraling sphere struck Gansui squarely in the back.

The explosion carved a crater into the battlefield.

For the first time…

The legendary commander staggered.

Back in the mountains, Obito breathed heavily.

His ribs ached.

His chakra was beginning to run low.

The armored jonin charged again.

This time, Obito didn't move.

The enemy smiled.

"You've given up."

"No."

Obito's Sharingan spun rapidly.

"I've figured you out."

At the last possible second, he stepped to the side.

The punch missed by inches.

Using the enemy's own momentum, Obito grabbed his arm and hurled him into a cliff face.

The mountain shook.

The jonin emerged almost immediately.

Laughing.

"Excellent!"

"You finally stopped fighting like a child."

Obito smiled.

"You noticed."

The two clashed again.

Taijutsu.

Fire Style.

Lightning-coated fists.

Neither gave an inch.

Every strike pushed them closer to their limits.

At the same time, Kakashi finally saw it.

The swordsman's stance shifted every time he attacked with his left blade.

A tiny flaw.

Almost impossible to notice.

"Kakashi!" Obito shouted from across the battlefield.

"The left!"

Kakashi trusted him instantly.

Lightning exploded around his hand.

"Chidori!"

This time he didn't aim for the enemy's chest.

He aimed for the opening Obito had identified.

The Chidori pierced through the swordsman's defense and struck his shoulder.

The impact blasted the jonin across the valley.

His swords clattered onto the rocks.

He struggled to stand.

Then collapsed.

The armored jonin looked toward his fallen partner.

His smile disappeared.

"So…"

"You defeated him."

His chakra surged even higher.

"I'll kill all three of you."

He rushed forward with terrifying speed.

Obito met him head-on.

The collision sent shockwaves across the valley.

Neither shinobi moved.

The two pushed against each other with everything they had.

Then—

"Kakashi!"

Without hesitation, Kakashi appeared beside Obito.

The two attacked together.

Obito forced the jonin's guard high with a barrage of taijutsu.

At that exact moment—

Kakashi drove a powerful kick into the man's knee.

The armored jonin stumbled.

"Now, Rin!"

Rin hurled explosive-tagged kunai she had secretly prepared during the battle.

They landed around the enemy.

Boom!

A chain of explosions engulfed the battlefield.

Smoke filled the valley.

When it cleared…

The armored jonin was on one knee.

Defeated.

Barely conscious.

He looked at the three young Leaf shinobi.

"…Remarkable…"

"I expected children."

"…Instead…"

"…I found warriors."

He finally lost consciousness.

Silence settled over the mountain pass.

The remaining Cloud shinobi looked at their fallen commanders.

Without leadership, their morale collapsed.

"Retreat!"

Within moments, the surviving enemy forces disappeared into the mountains.

Obito dropped to one knee.

His Sharingan faded.

Rin immediately began treating his injuries.

"You pushed yourself too hard."

Obito laughed weakly.

"I think that's becoming a habit."

Kakashi sat beside him.

"You were right."

Obito looked over.

"About what?"

"I couldn't have landed Chidori without you."

Obito smiled.

"And I couldn't have beaten him without you."

For the first time in a long while…

The two rivals shared a genuine smile.

Far across the battlefield, Minato stood over the defeated General Gansui.

The Iwagakure commander coughed before looking up at the young Leaf shinobi.

"…Yellow Flash…"

"…One day…"

"…You'll become Hokage."

Minato remained silent.

He wasn't fighting for a title.

He was fighting so the next generation—Kakashi, Obito, Rin, and countless others—could inherit a world with fewer wars.

As the sun set over the battlefield, both victories sent shockwaves through the Great Nations.

For the first time since the war began, enemy commanders realized that Konoha's greatest threat was no longer just the Yellow Flash.

A new generation of shinobi was rising beside him.
