"So, Mom are you going to tell me the name of your friend yet," Law asked his mother as they continued down the highway to New Orleans. They were currently almost there after a 20-hr drive with one stop at the motel half way.
"I'm not going to tell you even if you keep asking. It's going to be a surprise. Just take it as a punishment for those holding secrets from me" replied Liz with her eyes still on the road. (Author's note: Road safety is very important to remember to drive safe. 👍)
"Mom, it won't be a surprise to me because I don't know who we're going to visit. And I already apologized" Law rebuked.
"Fine, we are going to visit my friend Maria, we used to be drinking buddies in the past along with Carol another one of my friends. After I got pregnant with you, I settled down in New York and I haven't seen her since. The last time we talked was when Carol passed away so now that we have some free time, I decided to visit." Explained Liz gaining a small pained look on her face. Liz and her friends were really close in the past but due to her circumstances, they had lost touch.
"I'm sorry for bringing it up mom, I just was just curious" apologized Law.
"No, it's fine sweetie I've gotten over Carol's passing" reassured Liz as she brought herself out of her slight depression.
"Why don't you tell me more about being a cultivator and its benefits. You know other than not getting fat." Said Liz changing the subject. They still had a couple of hours off before they arrived there so Law decided to explain to her the desolate era's cultivation system. As they continued talking Law started to wonder if he should give his technique to his mother or make a completely different one. Law wasn't greedy, it was just that there were some major 'flaws' that his techniques had for people other than him.
The first 'flaw' was that the techniques were ridiculously difficult to understand and stupidly intricate.
The second 'flaw' was that to actually advance in the later stages you needed to understand multiple Daos. Not singular Dao containing multiple lesser Daos but multiple heavenly and grand Daos. Honestly, Law would have already changed his technique if he didn't have access to the Library of Heavens path which was basically a compendium of Daos.
The final 'flaw' was that in order to bring out the full strength of the cultivation techniques one had to cultivate both of them together. Once again this wasn't a flaw, but just something that made it ridiculously difficult to cultivate. After all, to cultivate just one technique would be ridiculously hard, having to cultivate both techniques together was verifiably impossible for most people. After considering various options, Law decided to first test if she could cultivate his techniques and then if she couldn't he would make her, her own.
A few hours passed before they arrived near their destination. It was a nice wooden house surrounded by trees with a large shed nearby containing a half-disassembled plane. Playing outside was a little 11-year-old girl, with dark brown hair, jean shorts, and an oversized t-shirt. Oddly enough there was no parent in sight outside, but they just assumed that she was being watched from inside.
'This scene is familiar, and I'm getting a bad feeling from this. Bah, it's probably nothing but my social anxiety acting up again' Law thought while dismissing his suspicions.
"Hi, my name is Lissandra Napier, and this is my son Lawrence. Are you Maria's daughter, Monica?" Lissandra asked as they approached the young girl.
She first looked at them suspiciously after all they didn't usually have many visitors.
"Yes, I am. What do you want?" replied the girl defensively.
"I'm your mother's friend. You may have heard of me your mom calls me Liz. We made a trip from New York to visit you." Lissandra said kindly trying not to scare the young girl. Monica seemed to think over the idea for a bit before her eyes gain a slight look of recognition.
"I've seen your picture in mom's album, you were there with Aunty Carol," Monica replied enthusiastically.
"Yep, that's me. I'm sorry I couldn't visit you and your mother sooner, but I didn't have much free time until now. Could we see your mom?" said Liz with a smile, happy that the girl wasn't afraid of her.
"Yep just go to the front door and knock she's inside talking to uhm her friend. You can just knock on the door." Monica replied before leading them to the entrance and going back to what she was doing before. Before she left, she looked at Law inquisitively intrigued by the presence of someone her age.
'Wait, Monica, Maria, Carol, and a house with a plane in a nearby hanger. This seems way too familiar. Wait, Carol, like in Carol Danvers Captain Marvel. S*** this is the house of the Air Force pilot from Captain Marvel. I can't do anything right now, let's just hope that Captain Marvel isn't here, I don't want to be known by soon to be one-eyed Fury.' Law thought while hoping that Carol was not here.
Lissandra knocked on the door while holding Law's hand making sure he didn't run off or hide behind her. Law may have the powers of a superhuman, but he still wasn't over this behaving like a loner. Also, having the emotional strength of a 10-year-old wasn't helping. The door opened to reveal Maria Rambeau with the appearance of Lashana Lynch.
"Tom, I don't have time for this right now. Just OHH, Liz is that you?" Maria gasped with a surprised looked.
"Hi Maria, it's so good to see you. It's been way too long I wanted to surprise you, so I brought my son and came here. So, TADA!" Lissandra enthusiastically said while doing jazz hands.
"Oh, it's been way too long, come in," Maria hesitated for a bit before giving Liz a quick hug and inviting them in. She then led them in the living room, before she approached Law.
"You must by Liz's baby boy Lawrence right. She always says how cute and adorable you are, and now that I see it I believe her." Maria said while giving Law a quick hug. Right now, three thoughts were going inside of Law's head, one I'm being hugged by a stranger, two I'm so happy I don't see anyone else, and three why do all of my mother's friends call me her baby boy.
But before Law could relax thinking that he escaped being pulled into the movie they heard the slightly annoyed woman.
"Maria, who was at the door. I told you that they can take the appearance of anyone" the person said as they entered the room.
The only thing that Law could think as he looked at her was F***. The person who had entered the room was Brie Larson, or better known in this universe as Captain Marvel.
"CAROL YOU'RE ALIVE" Liz gasped as she saw her 'dead' friend alive in front of her.
'I really need to take my mother and leave but how' as Law contemplated how to escape another voice interrupted them, and this time it was a very distinct one.
"Maria you should not be bringing civilians here. This is a matter of the utmost importance and secrecy." Samuel L. Jackson aka. Fury said as he too now entered the room.
'This is getting worse by the second, I have to get my mother and leave right now' Law immediately started tugging on his mother's arm trying to get her to follow him. Their escape wasn't mean to be as a third voice entered the room drawing everyone's attention.
"Now that is just rude of you. You should treat strangers nicely after all the first idea is the most important" snarkily replied a humanoid alien.
'F***king hell. Somehow I know this is Truth's f***ing fault' Law cursed earning him a quick and light smack to his head by his mother.
