On carousels, the outwards facing side is known as the romance side. It's what you see as a passerby and gets you to want to spend money. The inner side is known as the money side, it's what you only get to see after spending money. This also causes all the rides that are closer to the outside to be more detailed and complicated and the inner ones get more simplistic.
