William's steps came to a halt when Thalia suddenly stopped walking.
He looked back, only to catch the slight trembling in her eyes.
Following the direction of her gaze, he finally noticed the figure standing at the end of the hallway.
Penelope Hart.
The woman Elijah loved. The woman Jonathan Carter disapproved of.
And somehow, the woman was currently making his wife tremble in fear.
William's eyes narrowed slightly.
"What is it?" he asked quietly as he leaned down toward her. His hand tightened gently around hers. "Is something wrong?"
Thalia gulped before lowering her gaze.
"Hubby…" her voice came out small. "Can we go back home?"
William blinked once before answering immediately, "Of course. Let's go."
But despite asking to leave, Thalia's legs still refused to move.
It was as if they had completely frozen in place.
William's brows slowly furrowed.
"Hey…" He gently cupped her face and lifted it slightly so she would look at him. "Look at me."
