Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: The Mirror of the Ancestor

The air in the starlight chamber was heavy with the scent of ancient sterile labs—a smell Lin Xuan hadn't encountered since his previous life on Earth. The rhythmic pulsing of the walls slowed as his hand made contact with the glass.

The terminal's text flickered, shifting from English to a series of complex genetic sequences that only a master of molecular biology could decipher.

"Xuan'er?" A voice echoed down the tunnel. It was Lin Chen. She had followed him, her curiosity overcoming her fear. She stopped at the edge of the chamber, her eyes widening at the sight of the high-tech sarcophagus. "What is this place? That man... he has your face."

"He isn't just a man, Chen'er," Lin Xuan said, his voice sounding hollow. "He's the architect."

Suddenly, the Queen of the Swarm let out a shrill, harmonic cry. The sarcophagus didn't open; instead, it projected a holographic image into the center of the room. The figure in the projection looked weary, dressed in a tattered lab coat, standing before a backdrop of a dying Earth.

"If you are seeing this," the hologram began, its voice a perfect match for Lin Xuan's own, "then the 500 Forbidden Paths have been successfully integrated into a single biological vessel. My name is Dr. Lin Wei. In the year 2099, Earth's biosphere collapsed. We didn't have the technology to save the planet, so we encoded the 'Essence of Life' into the most resilient organisms we knew: insects."

The projection shifted, showing the Great Rift—not as an invasion, but as a Life-Pod.

"The 'System' you carry is a terraforming engine. The 'Beasts' are biological terraformers. The Moon-Glow Larva was designed to purify the atmosphere; the Shadow-Stalker to manage spatial stability; the Hornet to eliminate apex predators. You were not reborn by chance, Lin Xuan. You were sent here to ensure that when the 'Primal Nest' awakens, humanity—or what's left of it—has a Sovereign to lead them."

Lin Chen stepped forward, her hand trembling as she reached toward the holographic data. "Then... the 'Calamity' the Emperor feared... it's just the planet being prepared for us?"

"Not for us," Lin Xuan corrected, his eyes cold as he read the fine print scrolling on the terminal. "For them."

The hologram flickered one last time. "One final warning, my successor. The 500th Path—the Queen—has a mind of her own. She is the collective consciousness of the new world. If you do not dominate her, she will consume the Tamer world to feed the Nest. Choose wisely: Be a King of Men, or the God of the Swarm."

The projection vanished, leaving the room in a chilling, violet silence.

The Choice of the Sovereign

Lin Xuan stood before the sarcophagus, his mind racing. He looked at the Queen of the Swarm. She was beautiful, ethereal, and currently staring at him with eyes that contained no human emotion—only the cold, mathematical hunger of a species that wanted to survive.

He felt a presence behind him. Lin Yue and Lin Feng had descended as well, having sensed the shift in the spiritual atmosphere.

"We heard it all," Lin Feng said, her hand on her blade. "The Rift, Earth, the Nest... it doesn't matter where we came from, Xuan'er. What matters is that 4 billion 'things' are about to wake up under our feet."

"They aren't things, Feng'er," Lin Xuan said, turning to face his sisters. "They are the original humans, encoded into insectoid embryos. If they wake up now, they will see the current inhabitants of this world as parasites to be purged."

Lin Yue walked up to him, taking both of his hands in hers. Her touch was warm, a sharp contrast to the cold starlight of the lab. "You are the Sovereign, Xuan'er. The System gave you the paths, but we gave you your heart. You aren't Dr. Lin Wei. You are Lin Xuan of the Sovereign Sect."

Lin Xuan looked at his three sisters—the pillars of his power. He realized that the "Synchronization" wasn't just a power-up. It was his anchor.

"System," Lin Xuan commanded.

[Standing by.]

"Rewrite the 500th Path. I refuse the 'God of the Swarm' evolution."

[Warning: Deviation will result in 80% loss of authority over the 4.2 billion embryos. The Queen will become hostile.]

"Do it," Lin Xuan growled, his violet eyes flashing with a defiant light. "I'm not replacing one world with another. I'm merging them. If the Queen wants to be a God, she'll have to go through me first."

The Queen's Rebellion

The Queen of the Swarm let out a screech that wasn't harmonic this time—it was a declaration of war. Her gossamer wings turned into jagged blades of starlight, and she grew in size until she loomed over the sisters.

"Protect the terminal!" Lin Xuan shouted.

Lin Feng unleashed her Wind-Blade Panther, the feline roaring as it clashed with the Queen's spatial barriers. Lin Chen began hacking into the sarcophagus's manual override, her fingers moving like a blur across the light-keys. Lin Yue stood by Lin Xuan, her Lunar-Silk aura creating a shield that hummed under the Queen's pressure.

Lin Xuan stepped forward, the Dragon-Slaying Hornet and the Shadow-Stalker Ant manifesting at his side.

"You were built to serve the Sovereign," Lin Xuan told the Queen, his voice echoing with the authority of two lifetimes. "But you forgot one thing about humans: We don't like being told what to do by our tools."

As the battle in the deep began, the ground above—the entire Imperial Capital—started to shake. The 4.2 billion embryos in the Nest were beginning to pulse.

The clock was ticking. In 48 hours, the world would either have a new King or a very hungry God.
