The shadow growled intensely as if it was hungry for something. It growled not outside the wall, but inside, right in front of him.
A black colored cougar appeared from the outside, the cougar carried a black helm. The black helm gives him the power of the shadows.
"Wh-What is that? A-a giant cougar? why is it black? T-those fangs are gigantic! Th-this is a helmed creature!"
The black colored creature roared loudly 'ROAR!!" the fangs full of saliva, hunger made it more vicious. Vyrel noticed the black stripes that looked like an endless void, he remembered that only black helm has those colors.
"A-a black helmed cougar? How did it get inside the wall? I-i must let the guards know! But how am i supposed to tell the guards? it's looking directly at me as if I'm the next food!"
Suddenly the creature launched at him, it was so fast that his eyes couldn't follow its movement. With no way out, he quickly scanned the area and found a patch of bushes he could land on.
He immediately jumped to the grass infested area, barely avoiding the attack. He looked at his surroundings looking for something he could use as a weapon, and on his left side nearly 10 meters away.
There was a thick stick, he hastily grabbed it.
The creature crunched down, muscles tightening, ready to attack again, and this time, the surroundings turned into void, as if the world was being swallowed by darkness.
He couldn't see a thing, not his surroundings, nor his own body.
The black colored cougar disappeared without a trace, and it was suddenly behind him.
"W-where did it-"
The creature with an open mouth was behind him.
He reacted too late. The creature already bit him, though missed his neck.
The fangs on the creature have blood dripping on it, he felt a sharp pain on his shoulder. It was grazed by the sharp fangs when he avoided it.
his shoulder was pouring warm blood across his arm.
He was already exhausted from just dodging its attacks, but he held tight of the stick he picked up.
He noticed that after the attack, the creature exposed its abdomen for a split second. This slight gesture made him aware of its flaws, but doing something about it was risky and could lead to fatalities.
Encouraged by his fighting spirit, he is determined to attempt his last chance.
He planned to attempt a strike to its abdomen when the creature attacks again. He gripped the stick tightly.
After a slight pause, the creature used its power again, the darkness rose again. The complete darkness prevented him from seeing, but he has already anticipated the course of its attack.
The creature charged at him with its sharp fangs ready to bite a piece of him.
With the adrenaline and the will to survive, he ran straight to the charging creature and slid beneath the black cougar and struck its abdomen.
The creature felt the pain, but it wasn't enough to inflict great force to take it down. The creature raised his agro to him, and full of killing intent.
The creature roared loudly, ROAR!! It growled at him even more, he knew that, that was his last attempt. He could barely move from his wound, loss of blood will be his death.
When the creature was charging another attack, a shadow appeared jumping from behind. It was a man, he sensed the presence of ether within that man.
The man was a Helm Rider, it's faint but he sees the color of the man's helm. It has a shade of blue, the man was an azure helm user.
Vyrel also sensed another presence behind him, it was a woman. A beautiful and stunning woman, she also has ether flowing around her. She was another helm rider, she was faintly bright.
The man who has the power of azure, the power of fluidity. He was able to move like fluid while confronting the creature, the creature by now was fairly exhausted as it had already used half of its stamina.
The man shouted at the woman to support him and cast a blinding spell to weaken the creature furthermore.
"Hey Emily! Cast it now! I need an opening to finish this bastard off!"
"Here!"
The woman gathered ether around her and cast a blinding spell, "Holy Ray" The area around the creature suddenly brightens, the creature was weak to light. The man proceeds to attack the creature with his skill.
"Have a taste of this, you damn creature! Overflowing Wind!"
Overflowing wind struck the creature, heavily injured and bleeding profusely. The man is already charging another attack after gathering ether.
The creature tried to flee with his dark leap, but the white helmed woman prevented the creature from escaping with her Holy Ray.
The man strikes again, aiming for the creature's neck. Even with its neck sliced, the creature still stands, its black helm is helping it recover its blood.
Vyrel saw a chance, he picked up his stick and threw it with all his strength straight to the right eye of the creature.
The helmed cougar suffered heavy blood loss from its injuries, the creature still tried to flee but its legs gave out and died from excessive blood loss.
"Hah! Hah! We finally killed it! That took all my ether just activating two skills" The man said with sweat dropping from his entire body.
The woman responded to the man "You almost let it escape you idiot! It's thanks to this young man that it died"
The man looked at Vyrel with an intense glare, He spoke to him in a manly tone.
"Hey kid! What were you doing in this place at this time?"
The woman suddenly smacked his head.
"You idiot! He's just a kid! He probably didn't know that this had happened, Anyways kid. What's your name?"
He responded to the woman and said his name "U-Uh I'm Vyrel, Thank you for saving me, i could've died back then"
The woman responded to him with a gentle smile "Nice to meet you Vyrel! My name is Elissa, and that idiot there is James.
James spoke to Vyrel "Hey kid, You're lucky we were nearby and heard the roar of that beast, You would've died"
Vyrel replied to James "Yeah! Thank you for coming to my rescue!"
Elissa asked Vyrel where he was headed on a dark night, he replied to her "I was going home from my uncle's smithy, And suddenly that black beast jumped from the wall and spotted me"
Elissa replied "I see, I'm glad you are safe"
Elissa walked towards James and spoke to him, "Hey James, Vyrel needs company with him to go to his house, Let's go with him and talk to his parents about what happened, After that we'll report this to the guild master and the guards"
James replied to her "Yeah sure, But i'm sure you would have noticed. That kid is not normal, he's also a helm rider like us"
Elissa leaned closer and whispered to James "We won't tell anyone yet, since that kid didn't tell it himself"
James replied "Fine, fine"
James spoke to Vyrel "Hey kid! Where's yer house at? We'll escort you back home, We also need to talk to your parents"
He replied to James "Just north ahead from here, about a 3 minute walk"
James and Elissa followed Vyrel to his house, and after three minutes of walking, they arrived at his house, and his mother was waiting for him outside their house. She spotted Vyrel and ran to him and immediately hugged him whole on her knees.
The mother spoke to his son with a worried sound of her voice "Son, Where have you been? I've been waiting for you! Did that bastard blaverisk do anything to you? I'll make him pay!"
Vyrel responded to his mother "N-no! I-i was just-"
James cuts Vyrel's voice and says to his mother "Ma'am! Please let Vyrel take a rest, we'll talk to you"
Kaelis looked up "O-oh! I apologize, I didn't notice you, Vy go inside, the food is ready to eat first before going to bed okay?"
He nodded and said "Alright mom, good night!"
Kaelis waved goodnight to Vyrel as he was going inside.
Kaelis spoke to James and Elissa "Now, I forgot to introduce myself, My name is Kaelis, mother of Vyrel. Who are you two supposed to be?"
James said "My name's James"
Elissa also introduced her name "And my name is Elissa"
Kaelis spoke "I see, Nice to meet you two! But what are you with my son?"
James explained about what happened earlier, and told her that it was defeated with the help of Vyrel. But they kept it a secret that Vyrel is a helm rider.
Kaelis listened to them and thanked them for saving her son, she bowed her head and sincerely thanked them for keeping her son safe from the helmed beast.
After they're done speaking for a few minutes, the two head down to the city to report to the head master of the guild.
Elissa spoke to James "Hey James, can you talk to the headmaster alone? I'm shivering whenever he's in front of me.....!"
James responded to her "Heck even I am shaking just from his presence, that guy used to be a legendary helmed rider, so it's obvious the ether around him is thick and suffocating.
