Chapter 4 - Instant Kill and Scorched Earth

Hearing Chris's comment, Max Steel planted his boot firmly on Chris's backside with a swift kick.

Luna Blaze watched the scene without much reaction. Instead, she spoke seriously.

"Student Max, please rest assured. I will never let this Legendary class down. Um… how should I address you?"

Chris leaned in with a silly grin. "Since you are now the godmother, you can just call my godfather here 'husband'."

He received another kick from Max, this one strong enough to send him rolling five meters away.

Luna's face turned bright red. Max looked at her awkwardly and said, "Don't listen to Chris's nonsense. We do not have so many rules here. Just call me Max like you always have."

Luna lowered her head and replied softly, "Okay… Hu… Max."

She slowly came back to her senses, still struggling to process the fact that she had gone from a mere Nanny life class to a Legendary-tier Brilliant Thunder Swordmaster combat class.

Max smiled and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Rest assured. It is all real."

He then glanced at three Porcupines charging out of the forest. "Want to test your new class?"

Luna turned back with firm determination. "Okay."

She drew the training longsword from her waist and faced the three fierce beasts. Faint arcs of electricity began dancing along the blade. After a brief moment of focus, Luna moved.

With a graceful Z-shaped flash, she passed straight through the three Porcupines. Their eyes rolled back, and they collapsed with heavy thuds.

Instant kill. She sheathed her sword smoothly.

Max clapped. "Cool."

Luna smiled radiantly.

Max called out to Chris, who was still lying on the ground. "Get up. Stop sleeping. Go roast some pork. I am hungry."

Chris stood up with a resentful look. "Godfather, if I cast one Forbidden Spell, those three Porcupines would have turned into flying ash."

"Who told you to use a Forbidden Spell? Just start a normal fire."

"Oh." Chris obediently began making a fire nearby. After all, his class had been granted by Max.

Starting a simple fire was nothing for a Forbidden Spellcaster who could unleash fire-type Forbidden Spells.

Seeing Chris working on the fire, Luna sensibly drew her sword again and began processing the Porcupines. Her movements were clean and efficient, showing she was no stranger to kitchen work.

Max nodded slightly at the sight. "She will make a virtuous wife and mother someday."

Although his voice was low, Luna, now enhanced by her Legendary class, still caught the words. Her face flushed faintly, but no one noticed due to the angle.

In no time, the Porcupines were cleaned and placed over the fire. The meat sizzled as oil dripped, filling the air with a mouth-watering aroma.

While they waited, Max spoke casually. "The trial lasts five hours total. As long as the team kills ten fierce beasts, we pass. We have already reached the goal, but I am not satisfied with just passing. I want to cross this forest, find the boss, and kill it. We are taking first place in this trial."

After he finished speaking, Luna handed him a perfectly roasted hind leg and declared, "I will listen to you, God max."

This title was one Luna had carefully chosen. Calling him simply by name felt disrespectful. She was too shy to call him husband. Given his god-like ability to completely change someone's class, only the word "God" seemed fitting. Thus, "God max" was born.

Chris gave a thumbs-up from the side. "God max is a great title. I have no objections either, Godfather. I was just worried there would not be enough enemies for me to kill."

Max murmured, "God max, huh? Not bad."

While the three of them enjoyed their meal and bantered, an uninvited guest with two followers quietly approached. They had likely been drawn by the earlier pillar of orange light.

Luna sensed them immediately. Her brow twitched. Her hand gripped her sword hilt, and her figure blurred for a split second as if she had never moved.

But the sound of her sword sliding back into its sheath and the fading lightning in her eyes told the full story.

Two dull thuds rang out. The head and tail of a snake fell from a nearby tree, both halves charred and crackling with faint electricity.

The uninvited guest, who had been about to step out and mock the three supposed life-class weaklings, felt his legs turn to jelly and a chill run through his groin.

Thanks to his class, he had seen everything clearly. Luna had leaped up at blinding speed, drawn her sword in a motion too fast for the eye to follow, sliced the coiled snake, then kicked off the tree trunk to return to her exact spot. It was so fast it looked like nothing had happened.

If that sword had been aimed at him, he probably would not have even known how he died. His heart trembled violently.

This is a Nanny? What kind of terrifying Nanny is this?

But it was not over.

Chris looked at the two charred pieces of snake and said excitedly, "Extra food. Snake sashimi."

Max immediately complained, "Take that disgusting thing away. It might be highly poisonous."

Without hesitation, Chris raised his hand and cast a Forbidden Spell. "World-Burning Meteor."

Countless spheres of magma smashed into the area, instantly turning the snake into ash. When the spell ended, the surrounding forest had become a patch of scorched earth, the terrain completely changed.

At this point, the uninvited guest fainted from pure terror. His last thought before blacking out was: Blacksmiths are this fierce?

The loud commotion also drew Max's group's attention. Looking at the two remaining dazed followers, Max asked, "Who are you?"

The two followers, who had come with their boss to cause trouble, realized the situation instantly. Their boss was unconscious from fear. They quickly stammered,

"Just passing through… We are leaving now."

"Yes, just passing through… Leaving right away…"

They turned to run, but after a few steps they hurried back, picked up their unconscious boss, and fled for real.

Max, Luna, and Chris were left with dark lines on their foreheads. Luna glanced in their direction.

The one who fainted seemed to be the only person who had awakened an Epic class this time. Just an annoying fellow.

It turned out this uninvited guest was one of Luna's former pursuers. Relying on his family's modest wealth, he had often harassed her. Now that the "genius" had fallen, he had planned to continue his harassment.

But reality did not go as he planned. He came in standing and left carried out horizontally.

After the short interruption, the three lost their appetite. They decided to start moving again in search of the boss.

As they walked, Max's voice could still be heard complaining. "I told you to just throw the snake aside, but you went ahead and unleashed a Forbidden Spell. Do you not know we need to protect the environment?"

"Hehe. My hands were itching. There are not many chances to cast Forbidden Spells. Besides, without any obstructions, look at this open land. We can find the boss much easier this way, right, Godfather?"

Max stroked his chin thoughtfully. "Hmm, that makes sense. Good attitude. You pass."

Receiving Max's praise, Chris beamed with joy.

To Chris, Max was like a second parent. Max had changed him from a Rare-tier life class Blacksmith into the Unique Hidden combat class Forbidden Spellcaster. What child would not want to please their parent? So to Chris, none of this felt excessive at all.
