Chapter 24 [Reaction from all sides part-1]

-- a few days later --

Days passed. Due to the release of all their dark deeds, the politicians in power and those behind the attack were all arrested.

But my secrets were completely released to the public—it couldn't be taken back. Public opinion turned heavily against me, but with the help of opposition politicians, I managed to calm it as much as possible. I also tried to pressure news channels to avoid mentioning me in the reports or not to slender me.

I opened an orphanage in Julia's name. Then I made sure its security was raised to the maximum so no one could take the children for experiments.

Other organizations tried to capture me or obtain my samples from behind the scenes, but I countered them by releasing their own dark deeds or blackmailing them with the files containing their deeds they had done.

-- At Racoon city --

In an underground chamber, a scientist in a white lab coat was working when he suddenly heard footsteps. He turned back and saw a man with golden hair wearing sunglasses. It was none other than Wesker—and the scientist was William Birkin.

William looked at Wesker and asked, "Wesker, what are you doing here?"

Wesker remained silent for a moment, then finally spoke. "Nothing… just here to see an old acquaintance."

He then took a pen drive from his pocket and said, "And to show you something interesting…"

William looked puzzled and asked, "What?"

But Wesker didn't reply. He calmly walked to the computer, inserted the pen drive, and said, "You've been working here for almost two months—without meeting anyone outside, without knowing what's happening in the outside world."

William didn't think for a moment and replied, "Yeah, so what? Did something happen while I was here doing experiments?"

Wesker stopped. A small smirk formed on his lips, then he continued typing while saying, "Yeah… a lot. A lot, my friend."

Without looking back, Wesker pressed the Enter key on the computer and stepped aside, allowing William to see the video from the pen drive on the screen.

William watched the screen closely and saw Leon battling four Tyrants, flooding the building with magma, killing guards, and surviving bullets and missiles without a scratch.

Seeing this, curiosity rose in William's eyes, quickly turning into greed. He looked at Wesker and asked urgently, "What? How is this possible? Is he some kind of biological weapon created by Umbrella or another organization?"

Wesker let out a small smirk and said, "No, my friend. He is not a biological weapon or any experimental test subject. He is a natural born superhuman. According to recent government data, he gained his powers after his family was killed."

William's eyes widened. "What? How is this possible? How can a human be born with powers?"

Wesker replied, "I know, my friend. It's very difficult to understand, but the government and Umbrella have checked everything. There is nothing that can explain the source of his power and where he got it."

William jumped around like a child who had just gotten a new toy and said excitedly, "Then why waste time? Let's go. Let's get him. If I get his body, who knows how many secrets I can uncover and what we can gain from it."

Hearing this, Wesker sighed and said, "I'm afraid, my friend, it's not as easy as we expected. The government already tried. The result—a whole army battalion was wiped out by him. He also exposed all the dark deeds of the politicians behind it to the public. On top of that, he is a rich man with significant political and financial power."

Hearing this from Wesker, the smile faded from William's face. He asked, "Then we can do nothing about him? Can we not even get samples of his hair, nails, or anything else?"

Wesker sighed again and started walking toward the exit while saying, "Yes, my friend. Even though he fought a whole group of Tyrants, he didn't even bleed once. As for things like hair and nails, I didn't manage to get those either."

Hearing this, William sighed and replied, "Okay… then try to get any samples. If you manage to get even one, please bring it to me."

Wesker nodded and continued walking, soon leaving the base. William returned to his experiments, sighing as he said, "I hope Wesker can at least get one sample for me."

-- Spencer mansion --

In a dimly lit room, an old man lay slumped in a chair, tubes running into his body—clearly the only thing keeping him alive.

Lightning flashed across the sky outside. Suddenly, footsteps echoed—tap, tap, tap.

Hearing the footsteps, the old man suddenly opened his eyes and saw Sergi Vladimir approaching.

Sergei Vladimir was a highly disciplined, physically imposing, and loyal former Soviet Army colonel.

It had been a year since Umbrella recruited him. He was one of the few humans genetically compatible with a special variant of the T-Virus, making him very valuable to the Tyrant program.

Above all, Sergei had developed unwavering loyalty to Spencer.

Sergei walked up to the old man and said, "Sir, the investigation has been completed. There is nothing that can be linked to the source of his powers."

The old man paused for a moment before asking, "Did you check whether he had any contact with the T-Virus or....mold?"

The Mold was something only Spencer and his two closest friends knew about—the same men who founded the Umbrella Corporation along with him. But due to Leon's sudden rise, Spencer had to reveal it to Sergei in order to confirm the source of Leon's powers.

Hearing this, Sergei took out a document and showed it to Spencer. "Sir, as you ordered, we checked those as well. But before Leon awakened, he never came into contact with the T-Virus or the Mold. In fact, he never even entered Raccoon City before, nor did he go anywhere near that village."

According to the reports, Leon awakened his powers when his family died at the age of ten. It was also the first time he had entered Raccoon City.

Suddenly, Spencer coughed. "Cough, cough." He straightened himself and said, "Still, dig deeper. Who knows—he might be lying, trying to hide something."

Sergei nodded and said, "Okay, sir. I will do as you say." He turned to leave, but Spencer called out, "Wait. Try to obtain blood samples from his parents. If his powers are truly natural, as he claims, there's a chance they originated from them."

Sergei paused for a moment, then replied, "Sir, I'm afraid that might not be possible. After that military incident, Leon moved his parents' graves somewhere else."

Spencer fell silent for a moment, deep in thought. Then he said, "This only raises my suspicions further. If he moved his parents' graves, it must be connected to his powers. Go—find out where the bodies are."

Sergei nodded and said, "Don't worry, sir. I will deploy our men as soon as possible."

Spencer gave a slow nod. "Go. Do it fast—before anyone notices."

After Sergei left the hall, Spencer turned toward the window and muttered, "If I can uncover the secret behind his powers… who knows, perhaps I can achieve immortality—and finally be free from this weak, aging body." He coughed softly.

Unknown to Spencer, someone else had also taken notice—none other than Derek Clifford Simmons. At that moment, he was speaking with his men, trying to locate where Leon's parents' graves had been moved, but so far, they had found nothing.

Somewhere in a dark mansion, a man stepped forward and said, "Sir, we tried everything, but we couldn't find where the bodies are. According to our investigation, they were moved by Leon's caretaker—her name is Emma."

The man was one of the family's hired workers, and the person he was speaking to was none other than Simmons—the mastermind behind the events of Resident Evil 6.

At the report, Simmons's expression darkened with rage. He threw the cup of coffee at the man and roared, "If this is all you're capable of, you should have buried yourselves already. Worthless trash!"

The worker fell to the ground but didn't cry. Simmons took a deep breath and said, "Leave. I'll hire someone else for this. You guys are worthless."

The worker stood up and started to leave. Outside, his companions let out a sigh of relief.

"Stop!" Simmons called out suddenly.

The workers stiffened, turned back, and asked, "Yes, sir?"

Simmons replied, "If you can't find his parents' bodies… what about his grandparents'?"

Hearing this, the worker replied nervously, "S-Sir… his grandparents' bodies were moved along with his parents' graves."

Simmons pressed his fingers against the bridge of his nose and asked, "Then what about his mother's side of the family?"

A man replied timidly, "Sir… his mother was an orphan with no known background."

Simmons's patience finally broke. "Ahhh! Get out!"

The worker nodded and rushed out.

He took a deep breath and muttered, "These bastards are completely useless… maybe I should call her."

Without hesitation, Simmons picked up the phone and dialed his secretary. "Send Ada to me," he said coldly. "Tell her I have a mission."
