Practicing with the halberd until my muscles were screaming at me to stop made me feel... accomplished; I hadn't really done much and if someone charged at me with a sword I would still more than likely die, but hey, I felt good and I could tell that I was making progress.
The stances felt a little more natural and far less stiff, the weapon didn't feel completely awkward in my hands anymore, and there was this noticeable strain in my joins and hips - alongside my upper body - that suggested I was actually doing good.
That the practice was paying off even if I was still a complete and utter beginner with all of this; things were going to change though, but for now I needed to seriously lock my attention to just a handful of things and make sure I got really good at them.
