Elena slumped down on her bed, her head was spinning. She had just come back from Anti-natal check up. She thought about the women that came with their husbands, the way they supported them and she couldn't help but place her hand on her belly.
She wanted that too, Xavier attention.support and even love, but she knew it would only be a fantasy.
"You are my wife only on paper Elena, Nothing more so do not flatter yourself" Her mind kept replaying that harsh voice.
She felt a bile rush up to her chest and she ran to the bathroom sink, this has been a daily occurrence so it was normal to her, the doctor said she was still in her early stage.She rinsed her mouth as she staggered back into her room, her mind went back to the incident Tge other night.
They incident between them been a blur of acohol and poor decision,They had both been drunk and woke up next morning to the mistake they both made.The marks on her skin, ache between in legs and being naked cuddling each other left no room for doubt about what happened.Xavier had been her first.
Elena had dated men before,but she made sure to set some boundaries, Saving herself for someone she truly loves.And in reality she had loved Xavier all along secretly from the moment they met,watching from the shadows as he fell for her foster sister.
She had promised Xavier to keep the night a secret because he didn't want to break Chloe's heart and he was already engaged to her , Trapped by her love for Xavier and for both of their happiness she promised to stay silent. Elena never imagined that that one night would leave her a permanent reminder.
Her plan was to make enough money to sustain her during pregnancy and run away without anybody finding out, but alas faith had other option, Her parent had found out about her pregnancy due to her consistent morning sickness and that faithful day, They were having dinner as usual planning Chloe's wedding when the food had spiked up her morning sickness, Chloe was able to put the plus together due to the sudden tension between Xavier and her and she had ran out of the house and since then all search was proved abortive, no one knew where she went to. Her disappearance had only fueled Xavier's hatred towards her. He believed Elena wasn't just a woman who trapped him, She destroyed his life and the only woman he loved. Even now after been married he had treated the house like a hotel he hated.
Their marriage has been a cage built of guilt abd obligations, thr fall out had been nuclear within the family when her pregnancy was announced. She had seen the afterneth but she never imagined it would be this bad. Thankfully she had hopes but till when.
"Baby what do I do with you ?"Elena rubbed her stomach as she sighed.
A baby was suppose to be a blessing but for her, it had been a looming trouble. She took a deep breath , pushing the nausea down . She needed to eat something for the sake of the baby.
She knew Xavier wouldn't at home now, so she was free to go to the kitchen, before he comes back,she was not ready to see that stone cold face staring daggers at her.She stood up steadied herself and made her way to the dinning area.
It had become a habit for her to stay locked up in her room till he leaves for work, she knew he hated seeing her and it ruin his day so she decided to siesta stay indoor abd never use the dining area whenever he was around.
When she got downstairs she noticed it was late and checked the garage because she hadn't noticed his car came in,Hazel decided to wait for Xavier because she was worried. She never had his number because he never gave her any method of reaching out to him, he had avoided her like a plague and that always made Elena very sad.
"Why are you still awake ?" Xavier's cold voice had hit Elena like a physical blow, She shifted on the sofa , her posture stiffened as she play with her finger. His dark brows were drawn together in pure irritation.
Elena but her lips trying to find her words.
"I…..i…i..was wo…worried you weren't ba—"She was interrupted by his cold glare.
Xavier arched an eyebrow, his gaze sweeping over her with a clear mixture of mockery and rage. Every time she managed to look into his eyes she always feel a fresh pang of grief pierced her heart as it was a dark abyss of an emotionless glare.
"Quit the act Elena, I will never consider you my wife,you are only my wife on a piece of paper that could change at anytime, I will never be your husband and no matter what you do I will never consider you mine, so stop wasting your time on fantasy" Xavier cold voice was firm and stern.
He didn't wait for a response, He walked past her , His shoes clicking against the marble floor leaving a trail of cold air in his stead.
Elena bit her lips so hard trying to stop the tears from gushing out right there, Her eyes blurred with unshed tears as she but her lips so hard that she tasted blood.
She had waited out of a misplaced beauty or perhaps a desperate hope of a kind word even if it was said rudely. She knew he often return home drowned in whiskey to escape the reality of their situation. But she was also worried.
As Xavier's footsteps faded, Hazel couldn't help but place her hands on her stomach once again, Her baby was her only Comfort and best friend.
"Baby, don't worry we are strong we would get through it" Hazel smiled as she rubbed her belly.
