Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The Student commotion over hair

Morning came gently over Somnara Grand Dream Academy.

The floating sky crystals outside Dorm Block C glowed with soft golden light, signaling the start of another training day. Inside Room 4, the atmosphere slowly shifted from sleep to wakefulness as the students stirred.

Kael Vire was the first to groan loudly.

"…Why does morning exist."

Elric Morn was already sitting upright, fully awake, calmly organizing his belongings.

Soren Vale opened his eyes a moment later, silent as always, immediately reaching for his floating script.

Rynelle Aeris was not on his bed.

Kael blinked.

"…Where is he?"

Elric glanced around the room.

"He left early?"

Soren adjusted his glasses slightly.

"Unconfirmed."

Then—

The bathroom door clicked open.

---

Rynelle stepped out wearing a simple towel wrapped around his waist and another smaller towel tied around his head, holding back damp strands of hair.

Steam drifted faintly behind him from the bathroom.

He looked completely calm, as if this was the most normal thing in the world.

He walked across the room toward his drawer without hesitation.

"…Morning," he said quietly.

---

The room went silent.

Kael froze mid-stretch.

Elric paused entirely.

Soren's floating script flickered and stopped rotating.

Kael blinked once.

Then again.

"…Huh?"

Rynelle tilted his head slightly.

"…What?"

No one answered immediately.

Not because they didn't hear him.

But because none of them were processing him properly.

---

Kael slowly sat up.

"…You just came out of the bathroom like that."

Rynelle looked down at himself.

"…Yes."

Elric cleared his throat.

"That is… normal?"

Soren spoke quietly.

"It is statistically uncommon to leave the bathroom in shared dorm environments without full dress."

Rynelle nodded slightly.

"…I was changing."

Kael scratched his head.

"Yeah but—"

He stopped.

Because something else had caught his attention.

---

The towel tied around Rynelle's head loosened slightly as he moved.

And then—

It slipped.

---

Silence hit the room again.

But this time, it was different.

Rynelle's hair fell freely.

And it did not behave like anything they expected.

It wasn't short.

It wasn't average.

It wasn't even "slightly long."

It poured down smoothly past his shoulders.

Past his chest.

All the way to his waist.

Straight.

Silky.

Dark.

Almost unnaturally clean in appearance, as if it had never known tangles or damage.

It shimmered faintly under the morning light filtering through the window.

---

Kael slowly leaned forward.

"…No way."

Elric blinked once.

"…That is not regulation length."

Soren narrowed his eyes slightly.

"…Hair of that length is uncommon in male academy students."

Kael stood up abruptly.

"Uncommon? That's illegal levels of long!"

Rynelle blinked.

"…It's just hair."

He reached up and casually re-tied the towel around his head again, as if nothing unusual had happened.

---

Kael walked closer slowly.

"…How long have you been hiding that?"

Rynelle thought for a moment.

"…I didn't think it mattered."

Elric stepped closer as well.

"It affects perception."

Soren added calmly.

"It significantly alters social classification assumptions."

Kael pointed at him.

"You look like the academy goddess now!"

Rynelle blinked.

"…Goddess?"

Kael nodded rapidly.

"You know! The one everyone keeps talking about from the upper-year division. The 'Celestial Grace Candidate' or whatever!"

Elric frowned slightly.

"…There is a comparison similarity."

Soren adjusted his glasses.

"…High aesthetic overlap detected."

Rynelle tilted his head slightly.

"…Is that bad?"

Silence.

Then Kael laughed.

"No. It's just weird!"

---

Kael suddenly grinned.

"So wait… you've been walking around like that the whole time under your hood?"

Rynelle nodded.

"…Yes."

Kael threw his hands up.

"No wonder everyone keeps asking if you're hiding something!"

Elric studied him calmly.

"It may explain earlier dormitory rumors."

Soren added:

"It increases ambiguity in class perception."

Rynelle simply stood there, still calm.

"…I didn't know it was important."

---

Kael suddenly crossed his arms.

"Alright, new rule."

Rynelle blinked.

"…Rule?"

Kael nodded seriously.

"No more hiding that hair."

Rynelle paused.

"…Why?"

Kael pointed at him again.

"Because it's going to cause problems if people think we're living with some mysterious elite noble girl instead of a Weaver guy!"

Elric added softly:

"Misidentification is likely."

Soren nodded.

"Agreed."

Rynelle looked at them quietly for a moment.

Then nodded once.

"…Okay."

---

Kael immediately grinned again.

"Good. Now we can finally stop hearing weird rumors."

He paused.

Then added:

"…Well, new ones will probably start, but still."

Elric sighed softly.

"That is inevitable."

Soren returned to his floating script.

"…Social entropy increases with visible anomalies."

Rynelle turned slightly toward the mirror on the wall.

He looked at himself for a moment.

The long straight hair.

The calm expression.

The slightly distant gaze.

Then quietly said:

"…I still look like me."

Kael nodded.

"Yeah. Just… more confusing."

---

Outside their room, the academy morning continued as usual.

Students walked toward classes.

Some glanced at passing groups.

Whispers still traveled through corridors.

But now, they carried a new detail.

"The Weaver class boy…"

"…the one with the waist-length hair…"

"…he doesn't look like a boy at all…"

And somewhere far above, in the distant VIP towers, attention that had not yet focused downward…

slowly began to shift for the first time.
