Chapter 39 - When The World Started Speaking

The moment Isha stepped out of Aarav's apartment, the world didn't feel the same anymore. It wasn't just the weight of what she had discovered… it was something deeper, something she couldn't explain in words.

The air felt heavier.

Like it was trying to tell her something.

She walked beside Karan in silence, her mind still stuck on that location Aarav had shown. It wasn't just any place. It was connected. She was sure of it. But before she could even process that fully, something else began to change.

A faint ringing sound filled her ears.

At first, she thought it was just pressure… maybe stress. She stopped walking and pressed her fingers lightly against her temple.

Karan noticed immediately. "What happened?"

"I… I don't know," she said, her voice low. "My head…"

The ringing grew louder.

Sharper.

Then suddenly—

It stopped.

And in its place… came something else.

A whisper.

So soft that it almost felt like the wind brushing past her ear.

"…not here…"

Isha froze.

Her eyes widened slightly as she looked around. The street was normal. People passing by. Vehicles moving. Nothing unusual.

But she had heard it.

Clearly.

"…wrong direction…"

Her breath caught.

"What?" she whispered unconsciously.

Karan frowned. "What did you say?"

She shook her head quickly. "Nothing…"

But her heart had started racing again.

That wasn't her imagination.

It couldn't be.

The voice came again… but this time, it didn't feel like the same one that had been guiding her before. This was different.

This felt… everywhere.

"…turn back…"

Her steps slowed.

Her eyes moved toward the side street behind them.

A narrow lane.

Quiet.

Almost empty.

Karan noticed her stopping again. "Isha?"

She didn't answer immediately.

Something inside her was pulling her attention toward that lane.

Not forcefully.

But clearly.

"Wait," she said.

Without explaining, she took a step toward that direction.

Karan grabbed her wrist lightly. "Where are you going?"

"I think…" she hesitated. "We're not supposed to go straight."

"What?"

"I don't know how to explain it… but just trust me."

There was something in her voice that made him let go.

Slowly, they turned into the narrow lane.

The moment they stepped inside, the air changed again.

Quieter.

Still.

And then—

"…closer…"

The whisper returned.

This time clearer.

Isha's heartbeat quickened.

She wasn't scared.

Not exactly.

But she wasn't calm either.

She was… aware.

Of everything.

The sound of leaves moving.

The faint vibration of footsteps far away.

Even the distant hum of electricity from a nearby pole.

It was like the world had suddenly become louder.

Alive.

"…keep going…"

She walked forward slowly, her eyes scanning everything around her.

A broken wall.

A closed gate.

Dust on the ground.

Nothing looked special.

And yet… everything felt important.

Karan stayed close behind her, confused but silent.

"Isha, at least tell me what's going on…"

She took a deep breath.

"I'm hearing things."

He stopped walking.

"What?"

"I know how it sounds," she said quickly. "But it's real. It's not in my head."

Karan stared at her for a second, unsure what to say.

Before he could respond—

"…stop…"

The whisper came again.

Louder this time.

Isha stopped instantly.

Right in front of an old electric pole.

Her eyes moved slowly upward.

Nothing.

Just wires.

But something felt off.

Her gaze shifted downward.

And then she saw it.

A small scratch mark near the base of the pole.

Fresh.

Her breath slowed.

"…look closer…"

She bent down slightly, brushing the dust aside with her fingers.

There it was.

A tiny metallic object.

Almost hidden.

Her heart skipped a beat.

"What is that?" Karan asked, stepping closer.

Isha carefully picked it up.

A small device.

Black.

Unfamiliar.

Karan's expression changed instantly. "Wait… that's not normal."

"I know."

Her grip tightened around it.

"This is connected…"

"…correct…"

The whisper confirmed.

Karan looked around immediately. "We shouldn't be here."

But Isha wasn't listening.

Her focus was on the device.

Her mind was connecting things faster now.

The number.

The location.

This lane.

This device.

Everything pointed to something planned.

Something controlled.

Suddenly—

The air shifted again.

"…danger…"

The whisper turned sharp.

Urgent.

Isha's body stiffened.

Her eyes widened.

"Karan…"

Before she could finish—

A loud sound echoed from behind.

Footsteps.

Fast.

Approaching.

Karan turned instantly. "Run."

They didn't wait.

Isha clutched the device tightly and ran alongside him, her heartbeat pounding in her ears.

The footsteps grew louder.

Closer.

Someone was chasing them.

Her breath became uneven, but she didn't slow down.

"…left…"

The whisper guided.

She turned left without thinking.

Karan followed.

"…faster…"

They ran through another narrow path, then another.

The footsteps behind them started fading.

Slower.

Then…

Gone.

They finally stopped after reaching a crowded street.

Both of them breathing heavily.

Isha leaned slightly forward, trying to catch her breath.

Karan looked around carefully before speaking. "Whoever that was… they weren't random."

"I know."

Her voice was steady now.

Too steady.

She looked down at the device still in her hand.

"This is proof."

Karan ran a hand through his hair. "Proof of what?"

She lifted her gaze slowly.

"That Vikram's accident… was never an accident."

Silence fell between them.

Heavy.

Real.

The noise of the street around them felt distant again.

Like it didn't belong to them.

Isha closed her fingers around the device tightly.

Her fear was still there.

But something else had taken its place.

Clarity.

And resolve.

The whisper came one last time.

Soft.

Almost satisfied.

"Task one… complete."

Isha froze for a second.

Her breath stopped.

And then—

A strange sensation spread through her body.

Not pain.

Not fear.

Something different.

Her senses sharpened again.

The world around her felt louder… clearer… alive.

She could hear the wind brushing against the buildings.

The faint crack in the road beneath her feet.

Even the silent tension in the air.

Her eyes widened slowly.

This wasn't normal.

This was something else.

Something new.

Karan noticed her expression. "Isha…?"

She looked at him.

But for the first time…

She wasn't just seeing him.

She was feeling the world around him.

Listening to things no one else could hear.

And in that moment…

She realized one thing clearly.

This was only the beginning.
