Jake was woken by a loud bang and screaming ringing all around him.
He quickly jumped out of his bed and looked out of the window of the corner tower.
Outside looking down everything was on fire, black smoke rose up from the burning buildings in pillars so thick Jake couldn't see through them. Even the ground was scorched black with craters at least 10m deep.
Jake looked over the city of Nova, known as the golden city or the city of light. At night the city could be seen from over 100km away. It was a beacon to all travelers and the largest city on the continent of Zera.
Zera was one of the three continents in the realm and the largest of the three spanning over thousands of kilometers.
Nova was on fire everywhere Jake looked everything was destroyed. The city which once was the jewel of Zera continent with a castle build against the side of largest mountain in the land. The material the castle was made of glittered like a diamond in the daylight. The surrounding buildings around the castle in a 2km radius had streets paved in gold a sign of strength and how prosperous Nova was. This was where the strongest, richest and most important people of Nova resided.
The reaming area of the city of Nova was farmland and high density housing and a large market that was open from first light till sun down with a population of over a million.
Now everything was destroyed the outer area was burning even the golden streets were either destroyed or melting which showed how intense the heat of the fires around the city are.
The castle Jake stood in had not received any damage yet, this seemed to be because of multiple reasons mainly because the material it was build from was the hardest known and rarest in the land. Also to get to the castle on foot you would need to go through the whole city to get there and with the city army mobilized the invaders on foot would not get there anytime soon.
An older women burst into Jake's room she was wearing the castle uniform colour of silver with a gold badge. Helen was in her early 40s and was a very beautiful women with dark blonde hair with the physique of someone who looked after herself and put her free time into staying this way. She was the head of the castle staff, and had spent the last 10 years looking after the young crown prince. Her hair was in a mess and she looked extremely worried. Jake had never even seen a single hair out of place before, the castle had very high standards and with Helen being the head of the staff maintained these standards to the highest level above all others.
"Nana what's going on" Jake asked, this was what Jake called Helen as a sign of affection. She raised him from birth, it's not like his parents were not present in his life. His mother Queen Erin always made time for him and made sure to spend her free time with him, however as Queen she had a lot of responsibilities but whenever she was in the city she spent time with him. Unlike his Father who had even more responsibilities as King and the commander of the army who liked to be on the front lines leading his men like a true leader instead of sitting on a throne stuck behind the castle walls.
He was also out of the city most of the time mainly doing diplomatic works maintaining relationships with the neighboring kingdoms and when needed crushing any forces who tried to invade his land and on occasion supporting his allies when they needed it.
It's not like he didn't care about his son he actually loved his son very dearly as much as he loved his wife he just didn't have time to be with them often. The King did spend more time with Queen Erin than his son but that was mainly because they shared a bed and she often went with him on his diplomatic missions.
