"ELISE, GET BACK!"
Rhys saw me before I reached the field. He shifted back. The change happened fast, and when he straightened, he was completely naked.
Under any other circumstances, that would've made me react a lot more. Right now, I barely noticed.
And I kept going.
The smoke had changed. From the house, I had watched Rhys and Reid tear it apart again and again, but now it had pulled itself into one thick black mass between them.
It wasn't spreading anymore. It wasn't drifting. It was holding itself together.
Rhys shifted back. "What the fuck are you doing out here?"
"I think I know to send it away," I tried to explain.
"I don't care. Go back."
"Rhys, listen to me."
"No."
Reid stood farther across the field, still in wolf form. He was bleeding badly along one side. One of his back legs wasn't taking his full weight.
I stopped. "Reid, don't move," I shouted.
His head turned toward me, although I'm not sure if he heard me.
Rhys followed my stare.
