"Stop doing that."
Rhys looked over from behind the wheel. "Doing what?"
"I don't know. Whatever this is."
The truck bounced over a rut, and he turned his attention back to the road.
I pressed my fingers against my chest.
The feeling was still there.
The mate bond was complete now. And now I could feel his anger sitting under everything else. His fear. The way his mind kept going back to the smoke and then to Graymoor, then to the border.
Every once in a while, something stronger came through, and I almost understood what he was thinking before it disappeared.
It was strange enough that I couldn't tell where some of my own feelings ended anymore.
"I can feel you," I said.
Rhys glanced at me again. "Yeah. That's generally how this works."
"Not like that."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, I can feel what you're feeling."
His hands tightened on the steering wheel. "What am I feeling? Well, Elise, there's a fucking curse loose in my territory."
"And you're scared."
