I was back in the forest again.
I knew it was a dream almost immediately this time. The place never changed. Same trees, same moonlight filtering down through the branches, same massive tree standing at the center of the clearing ahead. Whenever I ended up here, Elise was usually with me.
I followed the familiar path, already expecting to find her, and then I heard voices. A laugh. Her laugh.
I frowned and moved toward it.
The clearing opened up, and my feet stopped.
Elise was kissing Reid. Not a quick, meaningless kiss, not one of those bizarre dream-logic moments where your brain throws random images at you. They were standing close together, completely wrapped up in each other, his hand on her waist, her arms around his neck.
I stood there staring for a moment before something unpleasant knotted in my stomach.
"What the fuck?"
Neither of them reacted. I started walking toward them.
"Hey."
Nothing.
"Elise."
Still got nothing.
