“I have to live. For Rayton, for Eton, for all of us.”
Belkiel gazed at Sez, momentarily lost for words. The revelation was staggering.
“My child. It's not a lie,” Sez affirmed with conviction. “It's still early and I've been afraid for anyone to find out, so I haven't even called a physician yet, but...”
As Sez's voice trailed off, she reached for his hand and gently placed it on her stomach.
“You should be able to feel it, Belkiel. You're a god, after all.”
His silver-blue eyes, focused on her flat belly, flickered with a tumultuous wave of emotion.
Her words were true. He could feel it, faintly but unmistakably, the budding life just beginning to burgeon. Belkiel's face mirrored his internal turmoil. Realizing her intuition was correct, Sez slowly removed his hand and began speaking again.
