"What do you want to do after your boards?"
Papa's simple question had become the hardest one for me.
It was evening that day. I was standing on the terrace, looking up at the sky. Far away, an airplane was flying… and my heart started flying along with it. I had always loved the sky—its freedom, its height, its openness. Whenever I saw fighter jets on TV, my heart would race. A strange kind of excitement… a feeling I could never quite put into words.
Papa came up to me and asked directly,
"So, what have you thought about your future?"
Without thinking, I replied immediately,
"I want to join the Air Force."
The moment those words left my mouth, it felt like the air had suddenly gone still. Papa looked at me… there was neither anger nor happiness in his eyes—just a deep sense of thought.
After a few seconds, he said,
"Becoming a doctor would be better. It's a safe future… there's respect… and it's my dream too."
That was the moment my world split into two parts—
On one side, my dream…
And on the other, my father's dream.
I fell silent. Inside, I was breaking, but I forced a smile on my face. Because the truth was, nothing in the world mattered more to me than my father. Everything I was, everything I had—it was all because of him. He had never let me feel the lack of anything.
To me, he wasn't just my father… he was my whole world.
That night, I couldn't sleep. Only one question kept echoing in my mind—
"Can I give up my dream?"
When I woke up the next morning, I had made my decision.
I would give up my dream.
Because sometimes, love is greater than dreams.
I went to Papa and softly said,
"I will become a doctor."
The happiness on his face brought tears to my eyes. But I hid them. That day, I quietly buried a part of my heart.
And a new story began—
The story of making my father's dream my own.
