Chapter 10 - Work Was Easier Than This

The next day felt… strange.

Not because anything changed.

But because everything had.

You walked into the office like always.

Same building.

Same people.

Same desk.

But now—

He wasn't just your colleague.

He was the man you were forced to marry.

💜 OFFICE FLOOR

"Good morning, Manager Y/n."

You nodded. "Good morning."

Your voice was normal.

Face calm.

No one knew.

Not yet.

You reached your desk.

Sat down.

Opened your laptop.

Just like any other day.

But inside?

Nothing felt normal.

💜 MEETING ROOM

"Let's begin."

Taehyung's voice.

Cold.

Professional.

You didn't look at him.

You focused on the screen.

Notes.

Numbers.

Anything but him.

"Manager Y/n, your proposal."

You stood up.

Explained everything clearly.

Calm.

Confident.

You finished.

Sat down.

Silence.

Then—

"It's weak."

Your head lifted.

Taehyung looked straight at you.

"Excuse me?" you said.

"The structure is fine," he continued,"but the strategy lacks depth."

The room went quiet.

You felt it.

Everyone watching.

You kept your voice steady.

"Can you be more specific?"

A pause.

Then—

"You're capable of better."

That line—

Didn't sound like appreciation.

It sounded like irritation.

💜 CLASH 😈

After the meeting—

You walked straight to his cabin.

You didn't knock.

"What was that?"

He didn't look surprised.

Just annoyed.

"Feedback."

"That wasn't feedback," you said."That was unnecessary."

He leaned back slightly.

"Then don't take it personally."

You laughed softly.

"Hard not to… when you make it personal."

His eyes hardened.

"You think everything is about you?"

"No," you replied calmly,"But this clearly is."

Silence.

Tension.

Then he stood up.

"You want honesty?" he said.

"Give it."

"I don't like working with you."

The words were sharp.

Clear.

"But I don't have a choice," he continued,"just like I don't have a choice in anything else right now."

That hit.

But this time—

You didn't break.

"Then act like a professional," you said quietly.

A pause.

Something shifted.

Not softer.

But…

different.

💜 LATER THAT DAY

The office felt heavier.

People sensed something.

Didn't know what.

But felt it.

You stayed at your desk.

Focused.

Silent.

Across the glass—

He stood in his cabin.

Looking out.

For a moment—

His eyes landed on you.

You didn't look away.

Not this time.

Then—

He turned.

💜 EVENING — ENGAGEMENT NEWS

That night—

Your house was full.

Relatives.

Voices.

Soft laughter.

"Get ready," your mom said.

"They'll be here soon."

You stood in front of the mirror.

Dressed.

Prepared.

But your expression?

Empty.

💜 THEY ARRIVE

Door opened.

Taehyung walked in with his family.

Same calm face.

Same distance.

But now—

Everyone looked at you both differently.

Like something had already changed.

💜 ENGAGEMENT 💍

You sat beside him.

Close.

But not really.

Hands placed together.

Rings ready.

"Smile," someone whispered.

You tried.

So did he.

But it didn't reach your eyes.

Or his.

💜 THE MOMENT

He picked up the ring.

Paused.

Just for a second.

Then slid it onto your finger.

Your turn.

Your hands didn't shake.

Surprisingly.

You placed the ring on his finger.

And just like that—

It was done.

Claps.

Smiles.

Photos.

But for you—

It felt quiet.

Too quiet.

💜 FINAL MOMENT

Later—

You stood alone on the balcony.

The noise inside felt far away.

"You look fine pretending."

His voice.

You didn't turn.

"So do you."

A pause.

"This won't last," he said.

"I know."

Silence.

Then you added—

"But we still have to live it."

That made him look at you.

Properly.

For the first time today.

And for a second—

There was no anger.

Just…

something unreadable.

💜 END SCENE

That night—

You looked at the ring on your finger.

It didn't feel special.

Didn't feel right.

Just…

heavy.

Like everything else between you.
