After Loretta agreed to take the assessment, the room remained silent for several seconds.
A few of the executives exchanged uneasy glances. Some clearly did not think the assessment was necessary, while others seemed worried that Loretta would not do well and cause unnecessary trouble for the company.
After all Loretta had not come through the company's usual recruitment process. Julian had personally selected her, personally arranged her position, and had even prepared an office for her before she officially resumed. To some people, that was enough to make the rumors believable.
Perhaps she really had been given the position because of her connection to the director and her mistake had simply exposed what everyone else had been too polite to say.
The young woman who had brought the proposal to Loretta earlier sat quietly among the executives. Her expression remained neutral, but the slight curve of her lips disappeared when Loretta volunteered for the assessment.
