About an hour later, Loretta received a call from Lydia and changed into a simple cream-coloured dress before leaving her room.
Once on the ground floor, the aroma of freshly prepared food drifted through the quiet mansion, leading her toward the dining room.
As she stepped inside, she paused.
The dining table was so long that it could easily seat more than twenty people, yet only a single place had been set. She looked around instinctively. The room was empty.
A moment later, Lydia walked in carrying a bowl of steaming soup.
"Madam, dinner is served."
Loretta hesitated before asking, "Mr. Goodman isn't joining us?"
Lydia gently placed the soup before her.
"Mr. Goodman has gone out."
"Gone out?"
The words escaped before Loretta could stop herself. She almost asked where he had gone. It was their wedding day. Shouldn't the groom be at home?
The question had already reached the tip of her tongue, but Kevin's indifferent voice suddenly echoed in her mind.
