Chapter 23 - sounded logical

The bodyguard, seeing Kevin and Loretta standing outside, immediately got into the car and drove over.

"Sir," he bowed when he came out of the car.

Loretta was shocked to see him there, but she could not think of anything else except the fact that this bodyguard had just saved her life.

"Get in," Kevin said.

He was not looking at Loretta, but the bodyguard quickly moved and opened the door. Loretta did not even remember to say goodbye to Mika. She quickly got into the car, and to her surprise, Kevin entered after her.

The bodyguard closed the door and got into the passenger seat. He did not mean to help Loretta out; it was just that he was well-trained and only took orders from Kevin.

His mission this time was to keep Loretta safe, so even when she said he did not have to follow her, he was there the whole time.

If he could not follow her openly, then he would be her shadow guard. It was one thing if he failed his mission to protect her and another if he was not available to protect her.

He did not dare take that gamble, especially when she was hanging out with some man. What if she eloped with the man? How was he supposed to report that to Kevin?

Loretta, seated next to Kevin, did not dare breathe too loudly. She was worried that if she annoyed this man, she would really die.

Kevin, on the other hand, did not pay attention to her. He opened his tablet and continued to work. The car remained silent for the full forty-five-minute ride.

When they got to the hotel, Loretta jumped out of the car as though something was chasing her.

"We return tomorrow," Kevin finally spoke.

Loretta was stunned. She turned back and looked at Kevin.

"The engagement party your family is hosting is next Friday," Kevin said.

Loretta looked at him. She wanted to say there were still six days before the party and she could leave a day or two before the engagement party, but other than thinking about it, her mouth did not move to say it.

Instead, she nodded her head and continued to the lobby. Kevin got out after that and walked in. Loretta had her back to him, so she did not notice that they had gone in together.

Only when she was back in her hotel room did she take a deep breath to calm down. Then her mind started replaying the events of the evening. She cursed her bad luck for deciding to eat at the same restaurant as Kevin.

She did not wonder why he would suddenly show up in SL. To her, he was on a business trip.

Then she remembered his parting words. "We are leaving tomorrow."

Loretta immediately fell into deep thought.

Tomorrow? Why did he not specify whether it was morning, afternoon, or evening?

She sighed and decided to find the bodyguard for clarification.

When she knocked on the door, it pulled open in seconds.

"How may I help you, ma'am?" the bodyguard asked respectfully.

Loretta blinked. Only now did she realize this man had been following her for two weeks now, yet she did not know his name.

"Your name?" she asked.

"Collins," he answered.

Loretta nodded her head. "Do you know what time we leave tomorrow?" she asked.

The bodyguard shook his head. "I will confirm with Assistant Andy tomorrow morning," Collins said.

Loretta looked at him strangely, wondering why he had to wait until tomorrow morning.

"I am in group two of the boss's team. I only get to know about his movements one or two hours ahead," Collins guessed her thoughts.

Loretta looked shocked, but then she nodded her head. A person like Kevin could not follow normal logic.

"Then let me know as soon as you find out," Loretta said and returned to her room.

That night, she turned and turned, unable to sleep.

Meanwhile upstairs, Kevin was having a conference call while Andy waited by the side. His boss had been in SL for three days. He never once asked about Loretta.

That evening, someone had asked him out for dinner at the restaurant just when they were about to leave, and he accepted.

Coincidentally, they met Loretta. If he thought his boss planned it, then how did he manage to get Mr. John to pick the same restaurant?

After thinking about it for a long time, Andy concluded that it must have been a coincidence.

Just when this assumption was beginning to make sense, Kevin looked up from his laptop.

"Have the private plane come over. We return in the morning," he instructed.

Andy looked at Kevin, who had already returned to his work. Kevin rarely used his private jet. His life looked peaceful, but he would constantly be in danger if his movements were predictable.

He said nothing and made the call.

The next morning, Andy sent a message to Collins at seven a.m.

(Get ready.)

Collins, who was already fully dressed, got up and went to knock on Loretta's door.

Loretta had not been able to sleep well the previous night. She was thinking of sleeping in that morning when there was a knock on the door.

"We leave for the airport in one hour," he told her.

Loretta blinked, not used to this kind of information. Then she remembered his explanation the night before. "Thank you."

Loretta returned to the room, took her bath, and packed her things.

She was reluctant to go, but she knew she had no choice.

After packing up, there were still a few minutes left, so she decided to quickly grab breakfast. There was a restaurant downstairs in the hotel, so she quickly made her order and took her seat.

She had only taken a bite when her phone started ringing.

Mika.

The name flashed on the screen.

Loretta looked at the name dancing on the screen and suddenly remembered him. She had been too frightened the previous night.

Taking a deep breath, she picked up the call.

"Good morning," she tried to sound as bright as possible.

"Good morning." Mika's voice sounded careful. "Are you okay?" he asked after a while.

The aura Kevin gave off the previous day had scared him out of his wits. He did not know why, but standing next to Kevin made him feel very small.

He had returned home and checked online. Only then did he realize the man was Loretta's fiancé. He had wanted to check on her since last night but was worried he would get her into trouble.

Only now did he gather the courage to call.

"I am fine," Loretta said.

"Then our plan for today..." He trailed off.

"That will no longer be possible. I am going back today," Loretta said regretfully.

Mika was stunned. He was saying something, but Loretta could no longer hear him because Kevin had walked over at some point.

Seeing him looking at her, she became so scared that she immediately ended the call. Her actions made her look like a student caught skipping class.

Kevin raised his brows. "Who?" he asked.

Loretta cursed in her mind. She wondered why she had ended the call like someone with a guilty conscience, but she did not dare lie to him.

"My tour guide. I was cancelling our arrangements," she said, trying her best to sound calm.

"Oh..." Kevin raised his brows.

"Time to leave," he said, walking past her table.

Loretta looked at the food she had barely touched. "I will go get my luggage," she said.

"Miss Gladstone, Collins will handle that," Andy said and gestured for her to follow Kevin.

Loretta sighed. Having no choice, she followed him.

The two got outside and into Kevin's car. They had just settled into another silence when the loud ringing of Loretta's phone broke it.

She hurriedly turned the phone to see who was calling.

Mika.

Kevin subconsciously looked over. Loretta ended the call without a second thought. She honestly did not want to get on Kevin's wrong side.

Seeing her actions, Kevin raised his brows.

Loretta, seeing this, panicked and thought she needed to find an excuse.

"He must be calling to get the balance of his money," she said, using the first excuse that sounded logical.
