Chapter 12 - "Glitching Dreams"

Do-Yoon stood in the middle of his academy room silently.

His eyes slowly moved around the room again and again.

The bed.

The table.

The bookshelf.

The balcony.

Everything was exactly the same as before.

Nothing had changed.

Nothing looked fake.

Even the cold air touching his skin felt real.

For a few seconds, Do-Yoon genuinely could not understand what to say.

"…I actually came back…"

His voice sounded small inside the quiet room.

He slowly touched the wall beside him again.

Cold.

Solid.

Real.

Do-Yoon's brain still couldn't fully process everything.

A few hours ago, he thought all of this was only a dream.

A strange shared dream between him and Min-Jae.

But now—

He was standing inside the same academy room again.

That meant only one thing.

"…This world is real."

Do-Yoon slowly sat down on the bed.

His thoughts became messy again.

"How does this even work…?"

"Am I sleeping in the real world right now?"

"Or am I actually here?"

"What even is this place?"

Questions filled his mind endlessly.

But after sitting quietly for some time—

Do-Yoon suddenly remembered something.

Earlier, before sleeping, he had wished to return here again.

And now—

He really came back.

His eyes widened slightly.

"…Wait."

He slowly looked upward dramatically.

"…Did God actually hear me?"

Silence.

Then Do-Yoon suddenly stood up.

He clasped both hands together seriously.

"Thank you, God."

He bowed slightly.

"Very appreciated."

Then after a few seconds, he added quietly,

"…Please also give me a better skill next time."

The room stayed silent.

"…Worth trying," he muttered.

After calming down a little, Do-Yoon stretched lazily and looked toward the bookshelf.

Instantly—

The principal's words returned to his mind.

"The entrance exam will not be easy."

Do-Yoon sighed deeply.

"…Right."

His expression slowly became serious.

He remembered something else too.

He was weak.

Very weak.

Player Rank.

Lowest rank.

Even Saphiens could probably defeat him with one hand.

"…Actually maybe with one finger."

Do-Yoon sighed again.

"If I stay this weak, I'll fail instantly."

And honestly—

He didn't want that.

For the first time in his life, Do-Yoon actually wanted to become stronger.

Not because somebody forced him.

Not because of school.

Not because of pressure.

But because this world excited him.

The systems.

The skills.

The magic.

The adventure.

Everything felt amazing.

"…Alright."

Do-Yoon cracked his fingers dramatically.

"Time to study."

A sentence nobody expected from Kim Do-Yoon.

Even he looked shocked after saying it.

"…Wow."

He slowly walked toward the bookshelf.

Many thick books stood there neatly.

Some titles sounded terrifyingly complicated.

"Mana Circulation Theory."

"Elemental Compression."

"Ancient Mirror History."

"…Nope."

Do-Yoon instantly skipped those.

Then finally—

One title caught his eyes.

SPELLS

Do-Yoon blinked.

"…That sounds important."

He quickly pulled the book out.

The book was extremely thick.

Almost ridiculously thick.

"…Why is this thing heavier than me?"

He carried it to the table somehow and opened it slowly.

The moment he looked inside—

His eyes widened.

Thousands and thousands of names filled the pages.

Different spells.

Different categories.

Different descriptions.

Do-Yoon flipped through several pages quickly.

"…No way."

There were over thirty-five thousand spells inside the book.

35,000.

Do-Yoon almost felt dizzy just looking at the amount.

He immediately searched for information.

And after reading carefully, he learned something.

Thirty thousand spells were considered normal.

But the remaining five thousand—

Were forbidden spells.

The moment Do-Yoon read the word "forbidden"—

His brain immediately focused on that only.

"…Forbidden?"

His eyes sparkled slightly.

The word itself sounded cool.

Dangerous.

Mysterious.

Obviously, Do-Yoon became interested immediately.

He ignored the normal section completely and went straight toward the forbidden spells.

"…Let's see what illegal magic looks like."

As he continued reading—

The spells became more terrifying.

Some could destroy memories.

Some controlled shadows.

Some damaged the user's own body.

One spell even required years of lifespan to activate.

"…What kind of crazy person made these?"

Do-Yoon muttered nervously.

But despite feeling scared—

He also felt excited.

Then suddenly—

One spell caught his attention.

The title was written in dark red letters.

Eyes Of Bloods

Do-Yoon slowly read the description carefully.

The spell allowed the user to detect hidden things and hypnotize someone temporarily.

Under hypnosis, the target would only speak the truth.

Do-Yoon's eyes widened slowly.

"…Wait."

"That's actually useful."

He continued reading excitedly.

The spell lasted thirty seconds.

After thirty seconds—

The hypnosis automatically ended.

And the spell could not be used again for twelve hours.

"…Twelve hours cooldown…"

Do-Yoon nodded slightly.

"…Still useful though."

But then—

He reached the side effects section.

And instantly—

His face changed.

Side Effect:The user's eyes will bleed after usage.

Silence.

"…Excuse me?"

Do-Yoon reread it.

Still the same.

"…My eyes BLEED?"

He imagined himself using the spell dramatically—

Then blood suddenly pouring from his eyes.

"…No thanks."

He immediately closed the page.

"I want power, not death."

Do-Yoon sighed and continued searching.

But honestly—

Most spells looked impossible.

Too complicated.

Too dangerous.

Too terrifying.

One spell literally required the user to stab themselves first.

"…Who invented this stuff?!"

After another twenty minutes—

Do-Yoon finally gave up.

"…I learned absolutely nothing."

He closed the giant spell book and pushed it away dramatically.

"Magic is scary."

Then his eyes moved toward another book.

SKILLS

Do-Yoon tilted his head slightly.

"…This one sounds easier."

He grabbed the book and opened it carefully.

Unlike the spell book, this one explained different skills that Mirrors possessed.

Thousands of skills were recorded there too.

Each skill had ranks, descriptions, weaknesses, and strengths.

Do-Yoon became interested quickly.

He flipped through pages rapidly.

Then suddenly—

"…Wait."

He found his own skill.

Disk Dash

His eyes widened slightly.

"…My skill is actually here."

The description explained that Disk Dash increased movement speed rapidly for short distances and could create sudden directional changes during movement.

"…That actually sounds cooler written down."

Do-Yoon nodded proudly.

But then—

He saw something else.

A skill named:

Blood Rush

The description instantly caught his attention.

The user could create surfaces made from a red acidic substance resembling blood.

The skill could also transform parts of the user's body into blood weapons.

Blades.

Spears.

Claws.

Shields.

The more Do-Yoon read—

The cooler it sounded.

"…THIS IS SO OP."

He continued reading excitedly.

The skill allowed extremely versatile combat.

Attack.

Defense.

Movement.

Even traps.

"…This skill is broken."

Then he looked at the rank.

Extremely Rare

Silence.

Do-Yoon slowly leaned back in disappointment.

"…Of course."

He sighed dramatically.

"Meanwhile I'm out here sliding around like a human skateboard."

Still—

He kept reading.

And reading.

And reading.

The more he learned about skills, the more he realized how huge this world truly was.

Some people controlled fire.

Some controlled gravity.

Some manipulated time for short moments.

Others used swords mixed with magic.

The possibilities felt endless.

"…This world is unfairly cool."

Then suddenly—

BZZZZT.

Do-Yoon froze.

A strange sound echoed beside him.

"…Huh?"

He looked up.

And instantly—

His eyes widened.

His system window had appeared automatically.

But something was wrong.

Very wrong.

The screen flickered constantly.

The text distorted repeatedly.

Glitching noises echoed from it.

The entire system looked unstable.

"…What the heck?!"

The window shook violently.

Words appeared and disappeared rapidly.

[ERRO—] [WARNI—] [SYS—FAIL—]

Do-Yoon immediately stood up in panic.

"BRO DON'T DIE!"

The system continued glitching heavily.

It looked like it would break apart any second.

Do-Yoon's heart started beating faster.

"…Why is this happening?!"

He tried touching the screen.

Nothing worked.

The glitches only became worse.

The screen flashed repeatedly.

For a second—

He thought the entire thing might explode.

"…Calm down…"

Do-Yoon forced himself to breathe slowly.

Then suddenly—

He remembered something.

There was a hide option.

Earlier, he noticed it accidentally while checking the system.

Without wasting another second—

He quickly pressed it.

[SYSTEM HIDDEN]

Instantly—

The screen disappeared.

Silence filled the room again.

Do-Yoon stared blankly at the empty air.

Sweat rolled down his forehead.

"…That scared me."

His heart was still beating fast.

He sat back down slowly.

"…What was wrong with it?"

He had no answer.

And the worst part—

He couldn't even ask anyone.

Because nobody else could see his system.

Just like he couldn't see theirs.

Meaning—

He was completely alone with this problem.

That thought made him nervous again.

"…Please don't break permanently."

After calming down slightly, Do-Yoon continued reading for a while.

But honestly—

His focus kept returning to the glitching system.

Something definitely felt wrong.

Very wrong.

Then suddenly—

Knock knock.

Do-Yoon instantly looked toward the door.

"…Huh?"

Another knock came.

"BRO OPEN THE DOOR!"

Do-Yoon immediately recognized the voice.

"…Min-Jae."

He quickly stood up and walked toward the door.

And as soon as he opened it—

Min-Jae stood there smiling proudly.

"BRO!"

Do-Yoon blinked.

"…How did you find my room?"

Min-Jae crossed his arms proudly.

"I asked seven people, got lost four times, almost entered the girls' dormitory accidentally…"

"…WHAT?"

"…But I succeeded."

Do-Yoon stared at him silently.

"…You scare me sometimes."

Min-Jae grinned proudly.

"Now let me inside."

And somehow—

The chaos was only beginning.
