The air changed the moment they crossed the invisible line. It wasn't something written on the ground, no walls, no signs, but both of them felt it instantly. The forest behind them, though dangerous, still carried life. This place… did not.
The moment their feet stepped forward, a heavy wave of demonic energy pressed against their bodies like an unseen tide, thick, suffocating, filled with hostility that seemed to reject their very existence.
Min Seoah instinctively released a thin layer of frost around her body, stabilizing herself.
"…This is worse than I expected."
Lee Hyun didn't respond immediately. His eyes moved slowly across the surroundings, taking everything in. The land itself looked corrupted. The trees were twisted, their bark blackened as if burned from within. The ground was cracked, dark veins spreading like scars, pulsing faintly with demonic energy. Even the air carried whispers of something unnatural, something alive.
"…We're inside."
He said quietly. Ahead of them, the structure they were looking for stood in the distance, a dark fortress-like palace, built from jagged black stone, towering above the land like a throne of death. Around it, countless monsters roamed freely, their presence dense, their levels significantly higher than anything they had faced before.
Min Seoah exhaled slowly.
"…No support."
She murmured. They both already knew it, but confirming it still carried weight. This mission… was entirely theirs.
Lee Hyun nodded.
"No backup. No interference."
His gaze sharpened.
"…We do this ourselves."
They didn't rush forward. Instead, they moved slowly, carefully, their steps controlled as they began advancing toward the palace. Every movement was calculated, every breath measured. The monsters in this territory weren't mindless. They were aware, intelligent and organized.
The first one came from the side. A horned demonic beast, its body covered in hardened scales, its claws dripping with corrosive energy. It lunged without hesitation, its speed explosive, its intent clear. But before it could even complete its attack, a flash of crimson.. and it's over.
Lee Hyun's blade cut through the air, the Demon's Sword leaving behind a faint trail as it sliced cleanly through the creature's neck. Its body dropped instantly, dissolving into dark particles.
They didn't stop. More came. From the shadows. From above. From beneath the ground. Each encounter grew harder, more intense, forcing them to adapt continuously.
Lee Hyun moved like a storm, his attacks precise, overwhelming, enhanced by his growing control over both demonic and divine energies.
Min Seoah fought like a queen of frost, her presence freezing the battlefield itself, her attacks sharp, absolute, leaving no room for error.
Their coordination had reached another level. They didn't need to speak. Didn't need to signal. They moved as one.bThe deeper they went, the stronger the monsters became.
Level 25.
Level 28.
Level 30.
Each battle pushed them further, testing their limits again and again, but neither of them slowed down. Their growth during this mission was visible, tangible. And then, a surge of energy.
Min Seoah froze mid-step.
"…I leveled up."
Her voice carried a hint of surprise.
Lee Hyun glanced at her.
"…Forty?"
She nodded slowly.
"…Yes."
A brief silence passed. Then, a notification appeared before her. Her eyes widened slightly as she read it.
"…I got it."
Lee Hyun's gaze sharpened.
"…Job change quest?"
She nodded again.
"…Listen."
Her voice lowered slightly as she read it aloud.
"Defeat the Frostborn Guardian in the Frozen Abyss… absorb its core… and stabilize my power…"
She frowned slightly.
"…Frozen Abyss? That's not even here."
Lee Hyun remained silent for a moment, his mind already working. Then,
"…Wait."
He stepped closer.
"Let me see something."
Before she could ask, his eyes flickered slightly as he activated Player's Insight. The world shifted. Information appeared. Not just her visible status, but deeper. Hidden layers, paths and possibilities. And then, he read it, the hidden information, just like before
"…There it is."
His eyes narrowed slightly.
Min Seoah looked at him.
"…What?"
He exhaled slowly.
"…You're looking at the wrong path."
Her brows furrowed.
"What do you mean?"
He looked directly at her.
"…Do you trust me?"
The question came suddenly and unexpectedly.
She blinked.
"…What?"
"Do you trust me?"
He repeated, his voice calm, but serious. For a moment, she didn't answer. Her eyes searched his, trying to understand why he was asking this now, in a place like this, at a time like this.
"…Why are you asking that?"
He didn't look away.
"…Because what I'm about to tell you… changes everything."
Silence followed. The demonic wind howled faintly around them. Her heart beat slightly faster, then,
"…I trust you."
She said. Without hesitation this time. Something in her expression had changed. Something firm, something certain.
Lee Hyun nodded once.
"…Good."
He turned slightly, his voice lowering.
"You have a hidden path."
Her eyes widened slightly.
"…Hidden?"
"…A legendary one."
He continued.
"Not the Frostborn Guardian… that's just a standard evolution."
He stepped closer.
"But this…"
His voice dropped.
"…is something else."
"Frost Sovereign… is not your limit."
A pause.
"…Your true path…"
His eyes sharpened.
"…is Celestial Glacial Empress."
The moment he said it, the air around her shifted. As if the world itself reacted.
Min Seoah's breath caught slightly.
"…Celestial… Glacial Empress…"
The name itself carried weight, the power, the authority.
"…What do I need to do?"
Her voice was steady and focused.
Lee Hyun didn't hesitate.
"…You have to absorb a Sovereign-level icecore."
She froze.
"…Sovereign…?"
He nodded.
"…And not just that."
"You need to awaken your bloodline completely… and force your body to accept both divine and extreme frost simultaneously."
Her expression tightened slightly.
"That's… dangerous."
"…Very."
He replied calmly.
"But if you succeed…"
A faint pause.
"…You won't just be strong."
"You'll stand above them."
Silence followed again. The demonic wind howled again. Her heart pounded. But there was no fear in her eyes. Only determination.
"…Then I'll do it."
She said without hesitation.
Lee Hyun smiled faintly.
"…That's what I expected."
They moved again. But this time, their direction had changed slightly. Because now, they weren't just heading toward the warlord. They were hunting something greater. But before they could advance further, a sound, a roar came from far.
One of the monsters they had just killed, didn't die silently, it screamed. And a signal gone through monsters.
Lee Hyun's eyes narrowed instantly.
"…We've been spotted."
Min Seoah turned, but it was too late. The ground trembled, the air shook. From every direction, monsters emerged. Dozens of them. Then hundreds of them. Surrounding them completely. Their eyes glowing. Their bodies radiating killing intent. One of them stepped forward, its voice rough, distorted.
"…Intruders…"
Another growled.
"…Kill them."
The circle tightened and pressure rose. Min Seoah exhaled slowly, frost gathering around her once more.
"…Looks like we're not sneaking anymore."
Lee Hyun's grip on his sword tightened slightly. A faint smile appeared on his face.
"…Good."
His eyes burned.
"…Let's wipe them out."
And in the next moment, the battlefield erupted.
