Aldric sighed, returned to his desk, and then faced me. "Tell me what you have in mind, then."

I nodded and returned to my seat.

"You say Nevan is not capable of harming women, then let me get close enough to see for myself. If I find nothing, I'll publicly exonerate him. My family will issue a formal statement retracting every accusation. Elowen's spirit, wherever it may be, would finally rest in peace. The Whitmore name will clear out the Wilder name. Isn't that what you want?"

"And if you find something?" He asked.

"Then your friend has been lying to you, and you'd want to know."

Aldric stared at me for a few minutes, then picked up his quill, turned it between his fingers and set it down again.

"What exactly do you want, Julian?"
