Chapter 26: Jiang Li: Do I have to accept? (1 / 1)

Hearing this, Jiang Li stopped and looked back at Zhong Liwu.

"Your words aren't wrong, Sect Master Zhong. I do indeed make a living by taking commissions."

He paused, then continued slowly.

"But remember this: anyone can offer me a commission, but whether I accept it depends entirely on my mood."

Zhong Liwu's expression stiffened for a moment, a flash of hidden darkness passing through his eyes.

As the leader of the Holy Spirit Sect, when had he ever been spoken to with such disregard?

But meeting Jiang Li's blade-like gaze, the words of reprimand he was about to utter were forcibly swallowed back.

In the end, he suppressed his unease and forced a fake smile.

"Of course. With your strength, you naturally have the right to choose your commissions."

"Good that you understand," Jiang Li sneered, then his tone turned cold.

"And you'd better drop your little schemes. I don't have time to play games with you."

At that instant, a chilling killing intent swept out.

Zhong Liwu felt his throat tighten, as if an invisible hand was gripping it. Even breathing became difficult.

He had no doubt that if he said another unnecessary word, the man in front of him would strike without hesitation.

Seeing this, Jiang Li lost interest in further dealings.

He turned and walked toward the exit of the cavern without even giving Zhong Liwu another glance.

Zhong Liwu stood frozen, fists clenched, knuckles white.

He knew clearly—if they fought, not only would they fail to keep Jiang Li, but the entire Holy Spirit Sect might suffer a disaster.

Only after Jiang Li's figure completely disappeared did Zhong Liwu finally relax slightly.

He stared in the direction Jiang Li left, a flash of resentment and unwillingness in his eyes, yet he did not dare pursue.

"Sect Master, are we just going to let him leave like this?"

Nangong Wan stepped forward cautiously.

Zhong Liwu's face darkened instantly.

"Otherwise what? You want to kill him yourself?"

"N-no! I was wrong!"

Nangong Wan immediately knelt in fear.

Only then did Zhong Liwu's mood ease slightly.

"Gather all the elders. I have matters to discuss."

"Yes, Sect Master!"

——

A few days later, Tianhun Empire, Tiandou City.

"As expected of you, efficient as always!"

Du Busi sat across from Jiang Li, laughing heartily.

Without hesitation, he placed a gold soul coin card on the table as final payment.

The card made a crisp sound.

Jiang Li picked it up casually, rubbing it between his fingers.

"Your sect really is generous. Much better than some stingy forces."

Du Busi chuckled.

"That's natural. Our sect keeps its word. We never cut corners on payment.

Honestly, kid, after seeing your performance, I even want to recruit you."

Jiang Li tucked the card away.

"I'll pass. I'm used to freedom."

Du Busi wasn't surprised. He already understood Jiang Li's temperament.

He took a sip of tea.

"So, what now? You can't just stay idle forever."

Jiang Li leaned back.

"I've taken a major commission. Heading north."

"North?"

Du Busi raised a brow.

"That place isn't peaceful. The far north is full of ice plains and soul beasts. What are you going there for?"

Jiang Li smiled faintly.

"Confidential."

Du Busi didn't press further.

After a pause, he said seriously:

"If you run into trouble, contact our sect."

Jiang Li grinned.

"I value my life. I'll run if needed."

He stood up.

"Time to go."

"Not staying a few more days?" Du Busi tried to persuade him.

"No. Efficiency matters."

With a wave, Jiang Li left.

——

A few days later, northern border fortress of the Tianhun Empire — Dragon City.

Cold wind swept across the walls, flags whipping violently in the snowstorm.

Jiang Li stood at the city gate, black robe fluttering lightly in the freezing wind, completely out of place among the bundled travelers.

He brushed snow from his shoulder and looked up at the frozen words "Dragon City".

He began thinking.

The Sealing God Platform would appear at the Star Luo Empire auction during the next Soul Master Tournament.

But that would expose him to the Sun Moon Empire, making the commission meaningless.

More importantly, he wanted what was inside the Sealing God Platform.
