Chapter 12 - part 10

(Anxin's POV)

The door to Room 312 is open.

Just slightly.

Enough to notice.

Enough to feel wrong.

I'm sure I closed it.

I always do.

"Hello?" I call out, pushing the door gently.

It creaks open.

Slow.

Quiet.

Empty.

My steps pause at the entrance.

The room is exactly how it should be.

Bed made.

Window closed.

No sign of disturbance.

No sign of—

Him.

"Jisung?"

No response.

My grip tightens around the file in my hand.

Where did he go?

He was here.

Just minutes ago.

I step inside, scanning quickly.

Bathroom door—open.

No one.

Closet—empty.

A strange feeling settles in my chest.

Not panic.

Not yet.

But something close.

"That's not possible…" I whisper.

(Anxin's POV — Corridor)

I step out quickly, looking around.

"Nurse!"

A nurse turns immediately.

"Yes, doctor?"

"Patient from Room 312—did you see him leave?"

She frowns.

"No, doctor. He hasn't checked out."

My heartbeat picks up.

"He's not in his room."

Now she looks confused.

"I'll check the system—"

"Do that."

I turn.

Scanning the corridor again.

This time—

More carefully.

More seriously.

Call me if anything feels wrong.

My hand moves to my phone.

Stops.

Moves again.

Stops.

This is serious.

I press his name.

(Hedi's POV)

The meeting just ended when my phone vibrates.

I don't usually look at it immediately.

Not during work.

Not unless—

Her name.

I pick it up instantly.

"Yes."

(Split POV)

"Didi…" her voice is low.

Not panicked.

But not calm either.

Something in between.

And that—

That's enough.

"Where are you?"

"At the hospital."

"What happened?"

"A patient is missing."

Silence.

One second.

Two.

"Which room?"

"312."

My expression changes.

Slightly.

Enough.

"I'm coming."

"You don't need to—"

"I'm coming."

Call ends.

(Hedi's POV — Transition)

Everything shifts.

Again.

"Cancel the rest of my schedule."

"Sir—?"

"Now."

"Yes, sir."

I grab my keys.

Walk out.

Fast.

Purposeful.

No hesitation.

Because something is wrong.

And she called.

(Anxin's POV)

I lower the phone slowly.

Why does my heart feel… calmer?

Just because he said he's coming?

This is ridiculous.

"Doctor," the nurse returns, slightly breathless.

"There's no discharge record. He's still admitted."

"I know."

That means—

He didn't leave officially.

Then how—

A sudden noise.

Behind me.

Metal.

Light.

I turn quickly.

A trolley lies slightly tilted.

Like someone bumped into it.

But—

There's no one there.

My pulse spikes.

"Who's there?" I call out sharply.

No response.

The corridor feels different now.

Not normal.

Not safe.

(Hedi's POV — Arrival)

The car stops before it fully halts.

I'm already out.

Walking inside.

Fast.

The staff notices immediately.

Of course they do.

They always do.

"Sir—"

"Later."

My eyes scan everything.

Details.

Movement.

People.

Threats.

Then—

I see her.

(Anxin's POV)

I don't realize how tense I am—

Until I see him.

Walking toward me.

Fast.

Focused.

Cold.

And suddenly—

Everything feels…

Under control.

"Didi—"

"Are you okay?"

The question comes instantly.

Direct.

Sharp.

"I'm fine," I say quickly.

"A patient is missing—"

"I know."

His gaze moves past me.

Scanning.

Calculating.

"When was the last time you saw him?"

"Ten minutes ago. Maybe less."

"Alone?"

"Yes."

His jaw tightens slightly.

"Close this floor."

I blink.

"What?"

"Now."

(Hedi's POV)

"This isn't normal," I say calmly.

"But we don't even know—"

"I do."

I turn slightly toward the staff nearby.

"No one leaves this floor without clearance."

"Sir, we need authorization—"

"You have it."

Silence.

No one argues.

(Anxin's POV)

I stare at him.

This version of him—

Is different.

Not "Didi Wang."

Not soft.

Not teasing.

This is—

Someone else.

"You think this is serious?" I ask quietly.

He looks at me.

And for a second—

Something flickers.

Something protective.

Something dangerous.

"I think," he says slowly,

"you're standing too close to something you don't understand."

My chest tightens.

"What does that mean?"

A pause.

Then—

"We're going to find out."

Somewhere—

Not far—

A door closes.

Soft.

Unheard.

And in the reflection of the glass window—

A shadow moves.

Watching.

Waiting.

Smiling.
