It had been three days since the Obsidian Awards, and nothing in my world felt right anymore.
She was avoiding me, snubbing every single text and call I sent her way. I knew where she was, though. The leg chain had been a good idea after all—a subtle tracker disguised as an apology. I needed to give her time. Time to sit down, process the fallout, and breathe.

Outside, a line of white SUVs pulled into the driveway, all bearing foreign license plates.
It had been stupid of me to avoid my old man for so long, especially after he froze my primary bank accounts. Not that it mattered. I wasn't stupid enough to rely solely on three major accounts monitored by the family network.
