Chapter 4 - "The Truth Behind the Ties"

INT. CHOI'S HOUSE. [DAY]

(Dr. Hyun-woo arrives home, and Sun-woo is sitting at the dining table, drinking coffee.) Hyun-woo: I'm home. (In a weary voice) Ah, I really feel exhausted. Sun-woo: Oh, you're back. By the way, why didn't you come home last night? Dr. Hyun-woo: Actually, one of my patients was critically ill, so I had to stay there. Sun-woo: Oh. If that's the case, come here; I'll make you some coffee. (Dr. Hyun-woo sits down at the dining table.) Hyun-woo: Yes, please. I really need something to help shake off this fatigue. Sun-woo: (Heading off to make coffee) Yeah, I'm making it. (While making coffee) Anyway, I wanted to tell you that I'm throwing a party, and you absolutely have to come. Dr. Hyun-woo: But... Sun-woo: Yes, I know—we don't need to tell anyone that we're brothers. Dr. Hyun-woo: But still... I'm not coming. Sun-woo: Why? I threw this party specifically so you could meet Kim, and now you're saying you won't come? Did something happen? Dr. Hyun-woo: (His facial expression changes) Actually... Kim Seo came to the hospital. I thought she had come to visit that elderly woman—"Elderly Auntie"—but she actually came to visit my patient, Junu. I think he might be her boyfriend. Sun-woo: *Might be*? You don't actually know who he is. He could even be her brother. Dr. Hyun-woo: But doesn't her brother live in the village with their parents? Sun-woo: Maybe he came here for a visit. Let's drop it. No matter who it is, you simply *must* come to the party. Dr. Hyun-woo: Yeah... I suppose that might be the case. Alright, I'll come. By the way, when is the party? Sun-woo: It's tomorrow. (Here—take your coffee. I made something to eat; make sure you have a bite. I'm heading to the office now.) Dr. Hyun-woo: Yeah, bye. I'll head out in a little while. Sun-woo: Okay. (Sun-woo leaves for the office.) Dr. Hyun-woo: Yeah... Sun-woo is right. (He takes a sip of his coffee. Then, taking out the gift Kim gave him, he begins to unwrap it.) Hyun-woo: ITS TIE(Smiling to himself) Kim Seo... You were so nervous when you gave me this gift. You really are so sweet. I wish you could recognize me now... [Cut]

[INT. Hanseong Architecture Office | Day]

(All the employees are busy with their work...) (They are immersed in their tasks when Sun-woo walks in.) Sun-woo: Good morning, everyone! (Everyone stands up to greet him.) All: Good morning, Sir! Ma Ha-rin: (Whispering to Kim Seo) He's here. Kim Seo: What is wrong with you? Ma Ha-rin: Hey! Why are you taking his side? You're my best friend, aren't you? Kim Seo: Yes, yes—my best friend. (Sun-woo heads into his private cabin, and everyone returns to their respective seats.) Kim Seo: Come on, let's go. Ma Ha-rin: Where? We just got to the office! Kim Seo: Duh—to give Sir his gift! We have to go. Ma Ha-rin: Not me—you go and give it to him. Give him my gift as well. Kim Seo: No, you have to go and give him the gift yourself. (She grabs her hand and pulls her toward the cabin.) Ma Ha-rin: Wait, Kim. Kim Seo: We're here; come inside now. Kim Seo: May I come in, Sir? Sun-woo: Yes, come in. Kim Seo: (Enters with Ma Ha-rin) Sun-woo: What happened? Did you forget something? Kim Seo: No, Sir... well, yes—I bought a gift for you. Sun-woo: What was the need for that? Ma Ha-rin: Yes, you're absolutely right, Sir. Kim Seo: (Gently stopping her), What are you saying? I'm sorry, Sir. She talks too much. Sun-woo: (To himself), I'll never be able to change her. (To Kim Seo), It's nothing. Kim Seo: Here you go, Sir. Sun-woo: (Accepting the gift), Thank you. (Opening it), Oh, these ties are beautiful. Thanks again. Kim Seo: You're welcome, Sir. We're all very happy that you're here. Ma Ha-rin: (To herself) Everyone else liked him, but *I* certainly didn't like this Sun-woo. Sun-woo: What are you thinking about, Ma Ha-rin? Ma Ha-rin: Huh? No, nothing, Sir. Oh—this is your gift. (Hands over the gift.) Here you go. Sun-woo: (Accepting the gift), Oh, I didn't expect you to bring me a gift, Ma Ha-rin. Ma Ha-rin: (To herself) I didn't want to bring one either! Kim Seo: Okay, Sir, we'll be going now. Sun-woo: Wait a minute; I have something to ask. Ma Ha-rin: What is it, Sir? Sun-woo: Oh—what was the old CEO like? Is it true that he left the company for personal reasons? Kim Seo: Uh... Ma Ha-rin: It wasn't anything like that! He was just a total lecher. Kim Seo: There was absolutely no need to mention that! Sun-woo: Kim, let Ma Ha-rin tell the truth. : Yes, let me tell you! (Getting excited) That glutton—he used to hit on *every* girl. Once, he acted disrespectfully toward us, so we taught him a lesson. He ran away out of sheer fear—the absolute glutton! Kim Seo: Yeah, but let it go now; he's gone. Sir, we'll be taking our leave now. (She leads Ma Hae-rin away.) Ma Hae-rin: Hey, wait! What are you doing? Sun Woo: Oh, so *that's* why he left. But... did he actually say anything?

[Flashback: INT. Office] (Goo Kyung-min feigns emotion in front of Sun-woo.) Goo Kyung-min (The Glutton): (Lying) Mr. Sun-woo, I simply cannot manage this company; you are the only right person for the job. You see, my grandmother is ill, so I am planning to move back to my village—for good. Please forgive me. Sun-woo: Alright. You may leave the company. Don't cry; just take good care of your grandmother. Goo Kyung-min: Thanks, Sir. Thank you for understanding me. I'll be on my way now, Sir. Sun-woo: Very well. (As he leaves, he chuckles softly to himself.)Goo Kyung-min: Ha ha ha! Now I'm safe. What could anyone possibly do to me now? [Flashback Ends] Sun-woo: (To himself) Hah! He really made a fool out of us. But now you're done for, Glutton. I'm going to tell Hyun everything about this now. Just you wait.
