Chapter 73 - Chapter 73: The Door That Remembered

Three knocks.

Olivia stood perfectly still.

The voice behind the door sounded like hers.

But it wasn't.

It carried something her voice had never carried before.

Fear.

"Olivia," it whispered again. "Whatever you do, don't open this door."

She looked at the black notebook in her hands.

The final page still displayed the name:

NOVA.

"Are you Nova?"

Silence.

Then the voice answered.

"No."

Olivia's grip tightened around the notebook.

"Then who are you?"

"I am the part of you that remembers what Nova erased."

The hall became colder.

Olivia looked behind her.

Every other door remained closed.

Only this one seemed alive.

"What did Nova erase?"

The voice hesitated.

"You."

Olivia frowned.

"You already said I was the person I was trying to save."

"That wasn't the truth."

"Then tell me the truth."

A long silence followed.

Finally:

"You were never supposed to become Olivia."

The words struck harder than they should have.

Olivia stepped toward the door.

"Then what was I supposed to become?"

"An observer."

She stopped.

The voice continued.

"Nova was created to remember reality. You were created to watch it."

Olivia stared at the door.

"Then why did I become the subject?"

"Because you looked at yourself."

"What does that mean?"

"It means the moment you became aware of your own existence, the system couldn't classify you anymore."

The hallway lights flickered.

Olivia remembered the first time she had seen the system.

The strange messages.

The impossible knowledge.

The feeling that something was watching.

But now she realized something terrifying.

The system had never been watching her.

She had been watching the system.

The relationship had always been reversed.

She placed her hand against the door.

"What happens if I open this?"

"You remember the first world."

"Wasn't the first world already destroyed?"

"No."

The voice became quieter.

"It was hidden."

Olivia looked at the notebook.

A new sentence appeared.

THE FIRST WORLD IS STILL WATCHING.

She stepped back.

"Where?"

The door answered.

"Inside Nova."

The floor trembled.

Suddenly, footsteps echoed from behind Olivia.

Slow.

Measured.

Approaching.

She turned.

Saif stood at the far end of the hall.

But something was wrong.

His face was completely expressionless.

His eyes were fixed on the door.

"Olivia."

She didn't move.

"What?"

"Step away from it."

"Why?"

"Because I know what's behind that door."

"You said you didn't know."

"I lied."

Saif began walking toward her.

"You always lie when you're afraid."

He stopped several meters away.

"I am afraid."

Olivia glanced at the door.

"Of Nova?"

"No."

"Then what?"

Saif looked directly at her.

"Of the person standing behind it."

Olivia's heart began pounding.

"Who?"

Saif whispered:

"Your first observer."

The door suddenly unlocked.

Click.

Olivia stared at the handle.

Saif stepped forward.

"Don't."

The handle moved.

Olivia didn't touch it.

Something on the other side was opening the door.

Slowly.

The gap widened.

A pale light spilled across the floor.

Then a hand appeared.

Human.

Calm.

Familiar.

Olivia stared.

The person stepped through.

It was a girl.

She looked about Olivia's age.

Dark hair.

Pale face.

No strange markings.

No glowing eyes.

No distortion.

Just a normal girl.

She looked at Olivia.

Then smiled.

"I've been waiting for you."

Olivia couldn't speak.

Saif whispered one word.

"Nora."

The girl's smile disappeared.

"Don't call me that."

Saif froze.

She looked at Olivia again.

"My name is Nova."

Olivia looked down at the notebook.

The name was gone.

The page was blank.

Nova walked closer.

"You finally created a world without a script."

Olivia whispered:

"What do you want?"

Nova stopped directly in front of her.

"I want to know why you erased me."

"I don't remember doing that."

"I know."

Nova's eyes became strangely sad.

"That is why I came back."

The hall vanished.

Everything became white.

And Olivia suddenly saw a memory she had never lived.

A little girl sitting alone beside a window.

A boy standing outside in the rain.

And Olivia—

watching them both.

Not as a person.

Not as a character.

But as something invisible.

Something that had been there before the story began.

Nova turned toward the memory.

"That was the first time you watched me."

Olivia stared.

"What happened?"

Nova looked at her.

"You made a choice."

"What choice?"

Nova's answer was barely a whisper.

"You chose the story over the real world."

The memory shattered.

And somewhere far away, the system restarted.
