The white room had no walls.
No ceiling.
No floor.
Yet Olivia could still feel something beneath her feet.
It was the strange kind of silence that made silence itself feel alive.
Across from her stood the figure.
The author.
Saif.
Or at least the shape that the system had decided to call him.
His face remained hidden beneath a layer of shifting darkness. Every few seconds, fragments of text appeared across his outline, then vanished before Olivia could read them.
Olivia took one step forward.
The figure did not move.
"Are you really Saif?"
For several seconds, nothing happened.
Then the laptop beside him turned on.
Not with the familiar black screen.
This time, there was only one sentence.
NAME ≠ IDENTITY
Olivia stared at it.
"You're avoiding the question."
The figure finally moved.
"I am avoiding the answer."
His voice was calm.
Human.
That frightened Olivia more than anything else.
"Why?"
"Because if I tell you who I am, you will believe the answer."
Olivia frowned.
"And that's bad?"
"Inside this place?"
The figure looked toward the endless white darkness.
"Belief is a command."
The laptop flickered.
WARNING: AUTHOR-CHARACTER SYNCHRONIZATION: 31%
Olivia stepped closer.
"What happens when it reaches one hundred?"
The figure's head turned toward her.
"I disappear."
Olivia stopped.
"And what happens to me?"
"You become the author."
The room suddenly changed.
A crack appeared in the white space.
It wasn't a physical crack.
It was a line of text.
One sentence.
Then another.
Then thousands.
They spread across the emptiness like fractures in glass.
OLIVIA BECAME THE AUTHOR.
OLIVIA REMEMBERED EVERYTHING.
OLIVIA FORGOT SAIF.
OLIVIA CREATED THE SYSTEM.
She watched the sentences rewrite themselves.
OLIVIA DID NOT CREATE THE SYSTEM.
Then:
THE SYSTEM CREATED OLIVIA.
Then:
OLIVIA CREATED THE SYSTEM THAT CREATED OLIVIA.
Her breathing became unsteady.
"This is a loop."
"Yes."
"Then there has never been an original."
The figure remained silent.
Olivia looked at him.
"You didn't create me."
"No."
"You didn't create the system."
"No."
"Then what did you create?"
For the first time, the figure seemed uncertain.
The laptop went completely dark.
Then a final message appeared.
HE CREATED THE QUESTION.
Olivia stared.
The figure whispered:
"That was my mistake."
Suddenly, somewhere beyond the white room, a sound echoed.
A door opening.
Olivia turned.
There was now a door behind her.
It hadn't been there before.
Unlike everything else in the room, it was painfully ordinary.
Old wood.
A silver handle.
A small number carved into it.
00
Olivia slowly approached.
"What is behind it?"
The figure answered immediately.
"Your beginning."
She placed her hand on the handle.
"But you said this story had no beginning."
"I said that because I had never seen it."
Olivia looked back.
The figure was already fading.
Darkness peeled away from his silhouette, revealing something underneath.
A face.
Her face.
Olivia froze.
The figure wasn't Saif.
It wasn't a man.
It was her.
Older.
Tired.
Holding the same laptop.
The older Olivia looked at her and whispered:
"Don't open the door."
Olivia's hand remained on the handle.
"Why?"
The older version of herself looked toward the laptop.
The screen displayed one final warning.
IF DOOR 00 OPENS, THE FIRST VERSION OF OLIVIA WILL WAKE.
Olivia stared at the words.
Then came another line.
CURRENT OLIVIA WILL BE DELETED.
Silence returned.
The handle slowly turned beneath her hand.
From the other side of the door, someone whispered her name.
Not "Olivia."
Not "the user."
Not "the author."
Her real name.
The one she had never told the system.
Her eyes widened.
The voice whispered again.
And this time, she recognized it.
It was her own voice.
From before the story began.
Olivia pulled the door open.
And somewhere outside reality—
something woke up.
