Chapter 22 - CHAPTER 22:A Surviver

The ship moved through endless water.

No land in sight.

No ships nearby.

Only horizon in every direction.

Kevin stood at the helm.

Wind steady.

Sails adjusted correctly.

"…Distance is stable."

This was the first real long stretch of uninterrupted sea travel.

No ports.

No interruptions.

Just motion.

The ocean was calm at first.

Too calm.

The kind of calm that made sailors uneasy.

Kevin noticed it immediately.

"…Something's forming."

He checked the sky.

Clouds were thin but spreading unevenly.

Wind direction shifted slightly.

Then again.

"…Weather instability."

He adjusted sails.

Trying to maintain balance.

The ship responded properly.

But the sea beneath was changing.

Waves grew slightly sharper.

Not dangerous yet.

But inconsistent.

By late afternoon—

The sky darkened.

Not fully stormy.

But heavy.

Air pressure dropped.

Wind stopped behaving predictably.

Kevin narrowed his eyes.

"…Large system approaching."

He adjusted course slightly.

But the system expanded faster than expected.

"…Too wide."

Rain began lightly.

Then steadily increased.

The sea surface broke into uneven motion.

Waves rising and falling unpredictably.

Kevin lowered sail tension.

Focused on stability instead of speed.

"…Hold position."

The ship slowed slightly.

But became more controllable.

Then—

The storm hit fully.

Wind slammed into the sails.

Water exploded across the deck.

BOOM—

A wave struck the side of the ship.

Kevin planted his feet firmly.

Hands locked on the helm.

"…Steady."

Another wave followed.

Then another.

The ship rocked violently.

But did not break.

Kevin exhaled slowly.

"…So this is open sea weather."

Not controlled.

Not predictable.

Pure environment pressure.

He adjusted navigation angle carefully.

Trying to reduce direct impact from waves.

The ship moved diagonally against the storm.

More stable.

Less damage.

Then—

Something appeared ahead.

Floating wood.

Broken mast fragments.

Ropes tangled in the water.

Kevin narrowed his eyes.

"…Shipwreck debris."

Someone had already lost to this storm.

He steered carefully through the wreck field.

Avoiding larger debris.

Then—

He saw movement.

A shape in the water.

Barely visible between waves.

Kevin immediately adjusted course.

"…Alive."

A person.

Clinging to wreckage.

Fighting to stay above water.

Kevin brought the ship closer.

Wind made positioning difficult.

But manageable.

He threw a rope down.

"…Grab it."

No response at first.

Then—

Weak movement.

Fingers caught the rope.

Barely.

Kevin pulled steadily.

Controlled strength.

No sudden force.

The body was dragged onto the deck.

Collapsed immediately.

Rain still falling heavily.

Storm still active.

Kevin looked down.

A girl.

Unconscious.

Breathing weak but present.

"…Alive."

He removed his coat and placed it over her.

"…Stay alive."

No more words were needed.

The storm continued around them.

But the ship held.

Kevin returned to the helm.

Eyes forward.

"…Now there are two problems."

The storm.

And the unknown passenger.

But neither changed the direction.

Only the sea decided that.

And the sea didn't care.
