Chapter 78 - Almost Said, Almost Heard

Scene 1: Fixing the Crack

The system room was quieter than the rest of the office.

Screens. Logs. Silent pressure.

Ayaan stood beside Anaya.

"Access point is here," he said.

Anaya leaned slightly closer to check.

"Someone used delayed authorization."

Ayaan nodded.

"They knew the timing."

Work.

Focused.

Precise.

But the space between them—

felt different now.

Not distant.

Not uncertain.

Just… controlled.

Anaya glanced at him briefly.

"You didn't take it back."

Ayaan didn't pretend not to understand.

"No."

A pause.

"Neither did you."

Anaya looked back at the screen.

"…I didn't need to."

And just like that—

they continued working.

Nothing dramatic.

But everything clear.

Scene 2: Ishaan & Mahi — Closer Than Before

Mahi stood by the glass panel, reviewing updates.

Ishaan walked over.

"You missed one line."

Mahi looked.

"…No, I didn't."

Ishaan checked again.

Paused.

"…You're right."

Mahi smiled slightly.

"That's rare."

Ishaan didn't respond.

But he didn't walk away either.

They stood there—

side by side.

Close.

Not accidentally.

Just… naturally.

Mahi spoke softly—

"You don't leave anymore."

Ishaan:

"I don't want to."

Silence.

Heavy.

Real.

Mahi turned toward him.

"I think I—"

She stopped.

Because saying it—

would change everything.

Ishaan looked at her.

Waiting.

Not pushing.

And somehow—

that made it harder.

Scene 3: Kriti's Accidental Truth

Kriti walked in—

talking as usual.

"…and I'm telling you, this system is personally against me—"

She stopped.

Because Aditya was already there.

Looking at her.

That same calm expression.

Kriti blinked.

"…Why are you staring?"

Aditya:

"You're loud."

Kriti:

"That's personality."

A pause.

Then—

without thinking—

"…I think I like you."

Silence.

Kriti froze.

"…Wait."

Aditya raised an eyebrow.

"…You think?"

Kriti:

"I didn't mean to say that out loud."

Aditya:

"That was obvious."

Kriti:

"Delete it from your memory."

Aditya:

"Not possible."

Kriti covered her face.

"This is why I don't think."

Aditya leaned slightly closer.

"…You should try it more often."

Kriti looked at him.

"…You're enjoying this."

Aditya:

"A little."

Kriti:

"I regret everything."

But she didn't walk away.

Scene 4: Back to Work, Not Really

Ayaan and Anaya finished reviewing the system logs.

"Entry point confirmed," Anaya said.

Ayaan nodded.

"We trace it next."

A pause.

Then—

quietly—

"You'll stay on this with me."

Not a question.

Anaya:

"I was going to anyway."

Their eyes met.

No hesitation this time.

Final Scene

The office settled again.

But not really.

Because something had shifted—

for all of them.

Ayaan and Anaya—

no longer unsure.

Ishaan and Mahi—

standing on the edge of something real.

Kriti—

still embarrassed.

Aditya—

still amused.

But also—

not distant anymore.

Some words were almost said.

Some were said too soon.

But none of them could be taken back.
