Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

No one dared move.

The guards hesitated mid-step, caught between Kieran's authority and the threat in Caius's voice. The tension in the clearing thickened, pressing against every wolf present.

Nyra could barely breathe.

Nyx was restless, pacing hard, her presence sharp and alert.

They are choosing.

Nyra felt it too.

The shift.

The hesitation.

This was no longer just about her.

It was about power.

About which Alpha the pack would follow.

Kieran took a slow step forward, his gaze fixed on Caius.

"You've overstayed your welcome," he said, his voice calm but edged with warning. "Leave now while you still can."

Caius didn't move.

Didn't even blink.

"I didn't come for permission," he replied.

The air shifted again.

Nyra's pulse jumped.

Draven stirred beneath Caius's control, his presence dark and heavy, pressing outward like a silent challenge.

Nyx responded instantly.

We do not back down.

Nyra swallowed hard.

Her body felt caught between two forces, both pulling, both demanding.

But only one felt right.

Kieran's patience snapped.

"Seize him."

The command rang out sharply.

This time, the guards moved.

Fast.

Decisive.

They lunged toward Caius, claws partially extended, ready to overpower him before he could react.

Nyra's breath hitched.

Nyx surged.

No.

Caius moved.

Not fast.

Not rushed.

But the moment the first guard reached him, everything changed.

He caught the wolf's arm mid-lunge and twisted.

A crack echoed.

The guard dropped instantly, shifting back to human form with a pained cry.

The rest froze.

Just for a second.

That was all it took.

Draven surged forward.

Not fully shifted, but close enough.

The power behind him exploded into the clearing, raw and overwhelming, forcing several wolves to stagger back.

Nyra felt it hit her too.

Strong.

Dominant.

Unyielding.

Nyx rose to meet it.

Not submissive.

Not afraid.

Equal.

Kieran stepped forward again, his own power pushing outward, clashing directly against Caius's.

The ground between them felt charged.

Unstable.

"You're making a mistake," Kieran said.

Caius's gaze flicked briefly to Nyra.

Only for a second.

But it was enough.

Everything in him shifted.

Protective.

Focused.

Certain.

"No," Caius said quietly. "You already made it."

Nyra's chest tightened.

The bond pulsed again.

Hard.

Her hand pressed against her abdomen before she could stop herself.

The sensation was stronger now.

Clearer.

Nyx went still.

Listening.

Feeling.

It's growing.

Nyra's breath caught.

Growing?

No.

That wasn't possible.

Her thoughts scattered as Kieran's voice cut through again.

"Take her inside."

The command was directed at the guards.

This time, they didn't hesitate.

Two wolves moved toward Nyra.

Nyx snarled.

Try it.

Nyra stepped back instinctively.

"I'm not going anywhere," she said, her voice unsteady but firm.

Kieran's gaze snapped to her.

"You don't get to decide that."

"I do," she said, surprising even herself.

Nyx pushed forward.

Stand your ground.

The guards reached for her.

Nyra reacted without thinking.

She shoved one of them back.

The movement was stronger than she expected.

The guard stumbled.

Shock flashed across his face.

Nyra froze.

That strength…

It wasn't normal.

Kieran saw it.

His eyes narrowed.

"What is happening to you?"

Nyra didn't have an answer.

Because she felt it too.

Something changing.

Something building.

Caius moved again.

This time, faster.

He stepped between her and the guards, his presence immediately cutting off any further attempt to touch her.

"No one touches her," he said.

The finality in his voice left no room for argument.

Kieran's control snapped.

"You don't make demands here."

"I just did."

The words landed hard.

The clearing held its breath.

Nyra's pulse pounded in her ears.

Because this was it.

The point where everything would break.

Kieran's wolf surged beneath the surface.

For the first time, Nyra felt it clearly.

Powerful.

Dominant.

Angry.

The pressure in the clearing doubled.

Nyx bristled.

Careful.

Caius didn't step back.

Didn't yield.

Draven rose fully now, pressing against the surface, ready.

The clash was inevitable.

"Kieran," one of the elders tried again, tension thick in his voice, "this is getting out of hand."

"It already is," Kieran replied.

His eyes never left Caius.

"Last chance," he said. "Walk away."

Caius's expression didn't change.

"No."

Silence.

Heavy.

Final.

Kieran moved first.

The shift was instant.

One second human.

The next, his wolf burst forward.

Massive.

Dominant.

Fur dark as night, eyes burning with authority.

Nyra staggered back.

Nyx surged in response.

Stay behind him.

Caius stepped forward.

He didn't shift fully.

Not yet.

But Draven was right there, pushing, ready to take control.

The ground seemed to vibrate under the weight of both Alphas.

Nyra's breath came fast.

Because if they fought…

There would be no stopping it.

The bond tightened violently.

Her vision blurred for a second.

The pressure inside her spiked.

Sharp.

Overwhelming.

She gasped.

Her knees buckled.

Caius turned instantly.

"Nyra."

Her name in his voice felt different.

Not just recognition.

Claim.

She barely registered it.

Because something inside her shifted again.

Stronger this time.

Nyx surged forward.

Not toward the fight.

Toward protection.

Enough.

The word tore through her.

Nyra's body reacted.

Power exploded outward from her.

Invisible.

But undeniable.

The force hit the clearing like a shockwave.

Kieran's wolf froze mid-step.

Caius stilled.

The guards staggered back.

Even the elders went silent.

Nyra stood there, trembling, her breath uneven.

Her eyes wide.

Because she felt it.

All of it.

The bond.

The power.

And something else.

Something that did not belong to her alone.

The silence that followed was absolute.

Terrified.

Reverent.

Confused.

Kieran shifted back first.

His expression was no longer just angry.

It was calculating.

"What… was that?" he asked.

Nyra couldn't answer.

She didn't understand it herself.

Caius didn't look surprised.

That was what scared her the most.

He stepped closer.

Slow.

Careful.

Like approaching something fragile.

But dangerous.

Draven was fully alert now.

Focused.

Certain.

Caius stopped right in front of her.

Close enough for the bond to hum between them.

"You felt it," he said quietly.

Nyra swallowed.

"Yes."

The word barely came out.

His gaze softened slightly.

Not much.

But enough.

"It's happening faster than I thought."

Nyra's heart stuttered.

"What is?"

Caius held her gaze.

And for the first time since all this began…

There was no hesitation in his voice.

"You're not just bonded to me," he said.

The words settled slowly.

Heavy.

Unavoidable.

Nyra's chest tightened.

"Then what is it?"

Caius's eyes flicked briefly to her abdomen.

Then back to her face.

And this time

There was no doubt.

"You're carrying my heir."

The world stopped.
