Chapter 90 - “Specimen 02”

Specimen 02

Codename: Mewtwo (Prototype)

At that moment—

Only heavy breathing remained in the voice channel.

Even the livestream chat fell into an unprecedented silence.

Then—

It exploded.

"!!!!!"

"Holy crap!!! MEWTWO!!! The artificial legendary!!!"

"Specimen 02—so this is the cultivated individual mentioned in that damaged report? The one whose technology was nearing completion?!"

"Even from the silhouette, it really resembles Mew…"

"Broken… humanoid… floating in that cultivation fluid—what the hell did Team Rocket do to it?!"

"The pressure is terrifying… I feel suffocated just looking through the screen."

"So this is a man-made legend… unbelievable!"

"Mewtwo…"

Red's voice carried a faint rasp.

He had once glimpsed it briefly in the real-world Team Rocket underground base, but it was nothing compared to the shock of seeing this "embryonic form" inside the game.

Blue stared silently at the curled figure floating in the emerald fluid.

Back when she infiltrated this place with Rei Akagi years ago, the chamber had been completely empty.

She never imagined such a shocking secret would later exist here.

Once the two of them regained their composure, Rei Akagi controlled Rei and used the Pokédex to carefully record the existence of Mewtwo and the surrounding equipment.

But the moment he finished—

A harsh voice rang out.

"Team Rocket Elite: Patrol is over! Leave the core zone immediately! What are you still doing here?! The Boss might return from inspection at any moment!"

Rei immediately gestured.

The three of them didn't dare hesitate for even a second.

They turned and quickly withdrew from the core area.

Staying even one second longer would multiply the risk of exposure.

"…It's hard to believe."

Blue's mind was still filled with the image of Mewtwo's incomplete form.

She had seen the Mewtwo who later formed a bond with Red.

Powerful.

Proud.

Almost like a god descending to the world.

But she had never seen so clearly the suffering it endured at the beginning of its existence—trapped inside that incubation chamber.

"Team Rocket… in some ways, they're terrifyingly capable."

Red didn't respond.

Because of his bond with Mewtwo, he could feel even more deeply the sorrow embedded within its genetic memory.

When they returned to the relatively safe stairwell area, Rei surprisingly did not head upstairs to escape.

Instead, he walked straight to a plain vending machine in the corner and began repeatedly buying Fresh Soda.

"Hey! At a time like this you're buying drinks?"

Blue complained, confused.

"We already got the evidence! Let's get out of here! Staying here even a second longer makes my skin crawl!"

But Rei Akagi didn't answer.

He simply kept interacting with the vending machine.

Clunk!

Clunk!

Clunk!

When the third bottle dropped—

A faint mechanical sound came from inside the metal wall beside the machine.

A hidden door outline silently appeared.

It blended almost perfectly with the wall.

"Leaving now would definitely be the safest choice…"

Rei Akagi spoke calmly, though his tone carried a sense of resolve.

He took a deep breath before continuing.

"But since we're already here…"

"…we might as well meet that person."

Rei stepped forward and gently pushed open the heavy hidden door.

Behind the door was not a secret passage.

Instead—

It revealed a luxuriously furnished reception room.

Velvet carpets.

Leather sofas.

Crystal chandeliers.

A large mahogany meeting table divided the room.

On the long leather sofa across the table sat a man.

He wore a perfectly tailored black suit and a wide-brimmed gentleman's hat pulled low.

The shadow from the hat concealed his upper face in darkness.

Only his firm jawline and a faint smile could be seen.

Resting calmly on his lap—

Was a sleek, elegant Persian.

His gloved hand slowly stroked the Pokémon's silky fur with graceful rhythm.

As if sensing the intruders, his hand paused.

He adjusted his posture slightly.

Then—

A low chuckle echoed through the silent room.

A deep, magnetic voice followed.

Each word seemed to strike directly at the listener's heart.

"Mysterious Man: First, I must admit…"

"Mysterious Man: The fact that you managed to reach this place surprises me slightly."

"Mysterious Man: In this mediocre era, people capable of surprising me have become quite rare."

"Mysterious Man: You are fortunate. And it seems… so am I."

"Mysterious Man: Join us."

"Mysterious Man: Above this rotten order, Team Rocket can offer you—"

"—everything beyond your imagination."

The calm yet seductive words pierced straight through Red and Blue.

The moment he spoke—

They both recognized the man sitting in the shadows.

The supreme leader of Team Rocket.

The uncrowned king of Kanto's underworld.

Giovanni.

Red's pupils shrank.

He instinctively tried to summon his Pokémon.

But—

BUZZZZZ—

A violent sound of beating wings suddenly filled the room.

A massive poisonous stinger appeared silently at Red's throat.

At that moment, the buzzing wings were the only sound in the room.

Following the stinger upward—

A Beedrill far larger than normal hovered less than half a meter beside Red.

Its crimson compound eyes locked onto the trio.

Beedrill — Lv.80

Ability: Sniper(Critical hits deal increased damage.)

Level 80.

A level completely beyond the current stage of the game.

Absolute overwhelming power.

At that moment, the man on the sofa finally moved.

He stood up elegantly and brushed imaginary dust from his suit.

He didn't even look at the three of them again.

The Persian gracefully leapt from the sofa and followed silently beside him.

Giovanni walked around the sofa toward a special elevator at the back of the room.

"Giovanni: There is no need to give an answer immediately."

"Giovanni: Time… is on our side."

"Giovanni: You will come to understand."

"Giovanni: The power of Team Rocket runs far deeper than your shallow understanding."

The Beedrill instantly withdrew its stinger from Red's throat.

Without any sign of vigilance, it turned around and calmly flew toward the elevator.

Ding.

A crisp electronic tone sounded.

The elevator doors slowly closed.

Giovanni's figure—and the suffocating pressure he brought with him—vanished behind them.

Before Rei Akagi and the others could even speak—

The livestream chat had already exploded.
