Chapter 89 - “Codename: Evolution”

Just as Red's heart skipped a beat—thinking they had been exposed and preparing for a fight—

Guard B returned from the room carrying three neatly folded black Team Rocket uniforms.

"Guard B: Here! For the newbies! Put them on quickly! Stop loitering around here!"

"Guard B: The Boss is inspecting the lower floors today! Stay sharp and follow the rules! And you—next time you show up without ID, don't blame us for being rough!"

Rei, Red, and Blue received Team Rocket Uniforms from Guard B!

Rei, Red, and Blue placed the Team Rocket Uniforms into the Key Items pocket.

"Okay, once we change into the uniforms, we can move freely."

Rei Akagi opened his inventory and switched outfits with one click.

Instantly, Rei's appearance changed.

A black Team Rocket uniform and cap covered his character model, leaving only a pair of calm eyes visible beneath the brim.

The bright red "R" emblem on his chest gleamed under the lights.

Red and Blue followed suit.

Although their character models hadn't changed, the atmosphere around them immediately felt more villainous.

Sure enough—

Once they were wearing the disguise, they moved through the base without obstruction.

As they walked through the B1 corridor, various advanced instruments and busy Team Rocket members came into view.

Everyone walked briskly with upright posture, their expressions tense but faintly excited.

From the fragmented conversations of passing members, the trio picked up several important clues.

"The Boss just went down to inspect the core project…"

"Stay alert! No mistakes allowed today!"

"I heard Subject 02 has stabilized…"

"Team Rocket Boss… that would be—"

Red stopped himself mid-sentence.

But just then, he noticed Blue sneakily reaching into a gap beside a large analysis machine and pulling something out.

His eyes widened.

He instantly forgot about the Boss and joined the "take anything not nailed down" operation.

"Hey! Could you two be a little more serious? We're inside their headquarters!"

Rei Akagi watched the two loot-happy players with utter disbelief.

"Follow me. There are several underground floors. If you get lost, I'm not responsible."

"Hehe… just grabbing things along the way~"

Blue replied smugly.

Faced with the threat of getting lost, the two finally behaved and followed Rei.

They took an elevator down to B2.

The atmosphere here was completely different.

The space was colder and more open, with dim lighting.

Huge glass incubation tanks stood in the corners.

Some were shattered.

Others still contained dried residue of cultivation fluid and unknown substances.

Rei led the two through several turns before arriving at a clearly abandoned laboratory.

In the center of the room stood a massive cylindrical incubation tank, shattered and empty.

Rei Akagi guided Rei to a half-open metal archive cabinet beside it.

After rummaging through the files, he pulled out a black access card.

He walked to the incubation tank's control console and inserted the card into a nearly dust-covered slot.

Static crackled through the system.

Then the monitor slowly flickered to life.

Codename: Evolution

Record Author: [Redacted]

Target Specimen:Eevee

(Genetic sequence shows extremely high adaptability and diversity, meeting the experiment's base requirements.)

Sub-Experiment 01:

Testing the target gene's tolerance to extreme elemental energy and the possibility of forced fusion.

Sub-Experiment —

Sub-Experiment 15:

Attempted forced injection of multiple incompatible elemental energies.

Mass mortality among specimens.

Only one surviving specimen (Codename 06) entered critical condition.

Sub-Experiment —

Sub-Experiment 30:

Specimen 06 survived and successfully adapted to Water-, Fire-, and Electric-type energy simultaneously.

However, vital parameters remain below baseline.

Severe energy conflict reactions detected.

Recommendation: Terminate or downgrade the project.

Transport Incident Report – Specimen 06

Transport convoy was attacked by an unidentified Pokémon Trainer on Route 3.

During the chaos, Specimen 06 disappeared.

As required data had already been collected and the target specimen was lost, the auxiliary experiment project has been terminated.

The report ended there.

"Eevee…"

Red's voice became low.

The excitement from looting earlier completely vanished.

In reality, he subconsciously reached out and gently stroked the warm fur of the Espeon curled beside him.

"These… damn bastards!"

Blue's voice trembled with anger and disgust, her fists clenched in the real world.

The experiment report sparked intense discussion in the livestream chat.

"Sub-experiments? This must be an extension of the Mewtwo Project! Team Rocket is insane!"

"They used Eevee for this kind of brutal experimentation just because of its genetic adaptability?"

"Specimen 06 disappeared during transport… that matches the Easter egg NPC! The traumatized Eevee Red received!"

"This storyline was buried so deep! From the hidden Pallet Town event, to the Celadon City secret room, and now this experiment report—perfect narrative loop!"

"Team Rocket is pure evil!"

"Alright. Evidence recorded."

Rei Akagi controlled Rei to document everything using the Pokédex camera.

Then he reminded the others,

"Anger won't solve anything. Let's go. There's something more important further down."

They left the laboratory and descended to B3.

This floor had no separate rooms.

Instead—

It was a massive experimental hall.

The ceiling rose into a towering dome packed with cables and pipelines.

The metallic floor reflected the harsh lighting.

Researchers in white lab coats hurried between complex machines.

A few stern-looking Team Rocket Elite members guarded key passageways and control points.

Rei gestured for the others to follow.

The trio straightened their posture and pretended to be patrol members, walking steadily through the dangerous hall.

Each step echoed through the vast space.

It felt like stepping on their own heartbeat.

Finally, Rei stopped in the center of a heavily restricted area.

Unlike the rest of the laboratory, there were no other instruments here.

Only a giant cylindrical incubation chamber made from a mysterious high-strength composite metal glowing faintly blue.

Its complexity and security level far surpassed the broken tank upstairs.

Inside the chamber—

A thick emerald-green cultivation fluid swirled slowly.

And within that liquid—

A damaged white humanoid figure floated silently.

Its body looked incomplete.

Parts of its limbs seemed to dissolve into the fluid, yet the humanoid outline was already clear—especially the head.

A cold white shell-like exterior covered most of its body.

A thick tail hung weakly downward.

Even through the thick glass and the game screen—

A strange aura could still be felt.

A mixture of power, fragility, pain, and confusion.

On the electronic plaque beneath the tank, glowing red letters displayed:
