Chapter 50 - Cyclizar: Aren’t I a Genius?

Sigh.

This must be a lie.

Wasn't I supposed to be a genius?

Then why…

Why…

Why can't I beat Cinccino?

With Cinccino's voice—half angelic, half mischievous—ringing in its ears, Cyclizar staggered and collapsed onto the grass.

It couldn't understand it.

After all, it was the Iron Serpent, the God of the Future.

And yet now, it couldn't even defeat a tiny Cinccino.

Lying on the grass, Cyclizar accepted the "judgment" of Kangaskhan and the others.

The final unripe strawberry was stuffed into Cyclizar's mouth.

The sour, astringent taste instantly filled its mouth, making Cyclizar frown deeply.

But strangely—

Its expression looked relaxed.

This warmth…

It hadn't felt the warmth of family like this for a very long time.

"Hm? Cyclizar, don't cry."

Hayato Sora noticed that something seemed wrong. Tears were sliding down the corner of Cyclizar's eyes.

He quickly walked over.

"I'll scold Cinccino and the others for you."

As he spoke, Hayato Sora pretended to lightly smack them while giving them a look that signaled them to apologize.

In his eyes, Cyclizar was still just a child.

Cinccino also noticed Cyclizar's strange mood.

It gently stroked Cyclizar with its fluffy paws, brushing it softly with its tail in apology.

"Chii chii~"

Kangaskhan and the Mudbray trio also gathered around, asking with concern if Cyclizar was okay.

Cyclizar was suddenly surrounded by the warmth of being cared for and loved by family.

Not knowing how to express its feelings, Cyclizar simply pounced onto Hayato Sora, knocking him down.

Its tail gently curled around Cinccino and placed it on its back.

Using its actions to say—

I'm fine.

The little episode came and went quickly.

After playing and roughhousing with the Pokémon for a while, Hayato Sora remembered the task for today.

He asked who wanted to come with him to cut pasture grass.

Kangaskhan, Cinccino, and the Mudbray all eagerly volunteered.

As long as they could spend time with Hayato Sora, it didn't matter what they were doing.

Cyclizar let out a howl, urging Hayato Sora to climb onto its back.

And so, Hayato Sora set off with his Pokémon toward the other side of the ranch to harvest grass.

That area had been planted casually when Hayato Sora first started growing crops.

Originally, he had planned to raise one or two Skiddo there.

Unfortunately, plans couldn't keep up with reality.

Instead of Skiddo, he ended up raising Mudbray first.

Later, Cyclizar, Smoliv, and Noibat also joined the ranch.

With so many Pokémon suddenly joining, the Skiddo plan had to be indefinitely postponed, and the pasture field was left unused.

Just a few days ago, Kangaskhan and the others had even played hide-and-seek there.

Who would've thought it would become useful again today?

Harvesting pasture grass wasn't as simple as cutting everything down.

You had to leave some of the stalks, and the cut should be made at an angled slice upward, making it easier for the grass to regrow.

Hayato Sora explained the process to Kangaskhan and Cyclizar.

The two nodded and began trying it themselves.

Carefully cutting a patch with their claws, they turned back to look at Hayato Sora.

Hayato Sora gave them an approving nod.

Soon, the system was running smoothly.

Hayato Sora and the two Pokémon cut the grass in front, bundling it into small hay stacks.

The stacks were then loaded onto the backs of the Mudbray, who transported them back to the ranch house.

Because Hayato Sora planned to make Grass Dumplings, the pasture grass didn't need to be completely dried.

It only needed to air-dry briefly in the wind.

That task was handled by Cinccino.

The little Pokémon spread the hay stacks apart with its tail. With a single powerful sweep, its fluffy tail flattened the piled grass evenly across the ground.

With everyone working together, the pasture grass was soon harvested completely.

Only short stalks about 5 centimeters above the ground remained in the field.

They would grow back again later.

A sustainable form of "exhausting the resource."

Today, however, there wasn't enough time to make Grass Dumplings.

Fresh pasture grass contained too much moisture.

Letting it dry for a full day would give the best results.

By the time Hayato Sora and the others returned, it was already noon.

Time for lunch.

They couldn't delay too long—Hayato Sora still had things to do in Santalune City that afternoon.

He had also promised Diantha that she could visit the ranch.

He wasn't sure when she would arrive, so he needed to buy some ingredients.

This time he could buy more than before.

He planned to purchase a generator, along with a refrigerator and an oven.

After about a month of effort—

The ranch was finally going to have electricity.

When Hayato Sora told Kangaskhan and the others the news, they were even more excited than he was.

The ranch was getting better and better.

And it was all thanks to the combined efforts of everyone.

Ten minutes later, Hayato Sora rode Cyclizar into the department store in Santalune City.

Cinccino, carrying the expectations of the other Pokémon, kept urging Hayato Sora along.

Hayato Sora hugged Cinccino and gently calmed it.

Together with two Pokémon, he headed to the third floor of the department store.

After browsing around, Hayato Sora selected a generator suitable for the ranch.

It was a power-storage generator.

If an Electric-type Pokémon charged it with electricity beforehand, it could run continuously.

A full charge could last over half a year.

However, Hayato Sora now faced a problem—

He didn't have an Electric-type Pokémon.

It seemed he would need to visit a power plant and borrow one.

Preferably an Electivire.

A single Electivire could supply enough electricity for an entire city for a year.

One charge would completely fill the generator.

Other Electric-type Pokémon wouldn't be nearly as efficient.

While Hayato Sora was thinking about this, Cyclizar scratched the ground with its claws.

A lightbulb seemed to pop up beside its head.

It understood.

Hayato Sora was worried about electricity.

Cyclizar switched into its battle stance, nudged Hayato Sora, and proudly lifted its head.

As if saying—

Don't worry, Hayato Sora. I'm the Iron Serpent.

It's just a bit of electricity. Leave it to me.

But in Hayato Sora's eyes, the meaning was completely different.

He thought Cyclizar was simply getting impatient and urging him to hurry up.

"Alright."

"We'll deal with the electricity later."

"First let's bring the generator home. There's a bunch of little cuties waiting for us."

Besides the generator, Hayato Sora also bought a two-layer refrigerator.

The upper section kept food fresh, while the lower section functioned as a freezer.

Even a small drum-style generator cost about 5,000 PokéDollars.

The power-storage generator Hayato Sora chose cost over 10,000.

Together with the refrigerator and oven, the total came to 15,000 PokéDollars.

After buying some additional ingredients, Hayato Sora returned to the ranch with the delivery staff.

He asked Cyclizar to call Kangaskhan and the Mudbray, and together they carefully carried the three large appliances into the ranch.

Even the Noibat, who usually disliked daytime activity, and Smoliv, who had been sunbathing, gathered around curiously to examine the generator.

Its silver-white exterior looked extremely high-tech.

On top was a metal ring—the device used to absorb electrical energy.

"Fu-fu~"

"Chii chii…"

"Vrrr~"

"Mud-mud!"

The little Pokémon gathered around the generator, studying it curiously and discussing how to use it.

Soon the discussion turned to a problem—

None of them knew Electric-type moves.

They couldn't help Hayato Sora.

Just then—

Our great hero, Cyclizar—the God of the Future, stepped forward.

It thumped its chest proudly, declaring that it could use Electric-type moves.

Immediately, a crowd of Pokémon surrounded Cyclizar, asking it to help charge the generator.

Cyclizar waved its claw dramatically and declared proudly:

"Graao graao!

(Everyone step aside. I'm about to show off.)"
