I Have An Infinite Cultivation Resource

Chapter 70: Traces

Lu You took out a Flame Talisman and burned away the brushwood by the stream, clearing out nearly five hundred square meters of space for Zeng Yan.

"Senior Sister, this way we'll have fewer mosquitoes, and it'll be more comfortable to live here," Lu You said as he used a Rain-Calling Talisman to extinguish the fire. The ashes mixed with rainwater, forming something like a concrete surface in the forest.

But he wasn't done yet. Lu You then used a Hard Metal Talisman to reinforce the muddy mixture of ash and water, finally completing the five-hundred-square-meter "concrete" ground.

"Senior Sister, now it's nice and flat." Lu You jumped up and down on the surface—it was quite sturdy.

Curious, Zeng Yan followed and hopped around on it as well, then looked around. "Not bad. More importantly, the surrounding brush has been cleared. This way, if you dare come close again, I'll notice."

Lu You chuckled, then began selecting large trees.

Seeing this, Zeng Yan took the initiative to help. The two of them worked together to break down the trees into various wooden planks.

Lu You added an extra step, applying Luban-style joinery at the connections between the planks.

"Senior Sister, let's assemble it together."

The planks were like giant building blocks and puzzle pieces. Lu You handled them deftly, and before long, the basic frame of a wooden house was formed.

"Senior Sister, not like that. This part needs to slide in here. And look here—see? These two parts have to lock together." As he explained, Lu You assembled the doorframe and walls.

"So that's how it works. I didn't expect it to be this complicated," Zeng Yan said in admiration. When she built things, she just stacked planks together, but Lu You was assembling them like a puzzle. After watching for a while, she felt she understood and picked up a plank to help. "Junior Brother, like this? You insert it."

"Senior Sister, you need to hold it steady, or it won't align."

"Alright, it's good now. Go ahead."

"It's in."

"Wait—push it all the way."

Working together, they finally built a neat, square wooden house. Lu You then crafted tables, chairs, stools, and a bed. The two of them busied themselves moving everything inside and arranging it, eventually sitting side by side on the wooden bed, looking around.

"So, Senior Sister, impressive, right?" Lu You looked at the tidy house, feeling a strong sense of accomplishment. The joy of assembling things was like fishing—only those who understood would appreciate it.

Zeng Yan smiled. "After working with you this long, it still isn't enough—you need praise out loud for it to count, huh?"

Of course, compared to cooperation, men preferred to be praised openly.

Lu You thought this but didn't dare say it. He stood up and took out ingredients he had brought from Lu Xiao'e's kitchen.

"After all that work, I'm a bit hungry. Today I'll show Senior Sister my cooking skills."

Stepping out of the wooden house, Lu You saw Bai Zihua's food box and suddenly remembered that Zeng Yan had taken a fasting pill.

"So you can do more than just cook rice? Then I really must see this," Zeng Yan said. She also noticed the food box, paused briefly, then added, "You came at just the right time. The fasting pill just wore off."

Lu You pretended not to hear. With a thought, he ran the ingredients through his small cauldron. The food box could preserve freshness, keeping ingredients unchanged. Lu You's cauldron had a similar function, though not as specialized—after all, he couldn't just pour cooked dishes into it. But with the food box, once he cooked a dish, he could have an endless supply of it.

Boom

By the stream, a rich aroma spread through the air as Lu You once again made Guo Bao Rou.

Outside the forest, Bai Zihua—who had originally left—had somehow circled back and was now lurking in the distance, watching the scene. In his hand was a special compass, on which three red dots were displayed. A closer look would reveal formations engraved within it, corresponding to the Sword Tomb, while the three red dots represented Zeng Yan, Bai Zihua, and Lu You.

Bai Zihua had truly intended to leave, but when he noticed that the tracking compass bound to the Sword Tomb showed an extra person, he returned to check. He feared someone might harm Zeng Yan, but he hadn't expected it to be Lu You.

After staring blankly for a while, Bai Zihua let out a sigh. "I didn't lose unfairly. Building a house with his own hands, cooking personally… why didn't I think of such simple things? Is it that I couldn't think of them, or that I simply couldn't be bothered?"

After muttering to himself for a while, Bai Zihua slowly withdrew from the forest. Just as he was about to leave, he suddenly glanced again at the compass.

Originally, the compass only showed three red dots. Now, a fourth one had suddenly appeared, moving extremely fast as it searched through the Sword Tomb—already about to approach Zeng Yan's location.

Flap, flap, flap

Several small birds in the forest suddenly took flight in alarm.

Zeng Yan, who was eating, noticed immediately and looked at Lu You. "Someone has entered the Sword Tomb. Junior Brother, you should go." Although entry into the Sword Tomb wasn't forbidden to disciples, Zeng Yan was here in confinement. If she were discovered, it would inevitably displease the elders and cause trouble.

Lu You glanced in the direction of the startled birds, nodded, and quickly slipped into the forest.

Watching the red dots on the compass, Bai Zihua turned his gaze toward the direction Lu You had left. After a moment's thought, he picked up a leaf and flicked it toward that direction—not aiming at Lu You, but at the treetops ahead of him.

Flap, flap, flap

More birds were startled into flight.

On the compass, that fourth red dot also noticed the disturbance and quickly adjusted its direction, pursuing Lu You's escape route.

Bai Zihua stared coldly at the compass, his grip tightening. Finally, he lowered his head. "Using others to do the work—how is that the conduct of a gentleman? If I don't even dare to fight for love myself, then how can I compete on the path to immortality, or in the way of the sword?"

Silently, Bai Zihua moved, his figure weaving through the forest like a white serpent, trailing far behind Lu You.

Sizzle

Lu You suddenly felt a heat on his chest—the Evil-Repelling Talisman was growing hot. It was a warning, meaning something sinister or malicious was approaching nearby.

"Someone?"

Lu You grew alert. He took out a Wind Talisman, releasing a gust that split into branching currents, leaving numerous traces ahead of him. Meanwhile, he flashed aside and hid in a large tree. He reinforced the tree with a Hard Metal Talisman, then activated a Divine Eye Talisman, a Purifying Heart Talisman, a Light Rock Talisman, and a Soundproof Talisman in succession, concealing his presence. Finally, he held a Teleportation Talisman ready in his hand.

In just a few breaths, a shadowy figure caught up. The figure scanned the surroundings briefly, then stepped forward, following the trail created by the wind talisman.

It was Elder Wen.

With the Divine Eye Talisman, Lu You recognized him at a glance.

Something's wrong. Why would Elder Wen be tracking me? Damn—it's Senior Sister he's after.

When Lu You had controlled Zhou Lei earlier, he had seen the final scene—after detonating his core, Elder Wen's cultivation had been damaged.

"Stop!"

Before Lu You could act, a sharp shout rang out from the forest. Bai Zihua stepped in, blocking the shadow. "Elder Wen, what are you in such a hurry to find?"

Holding the compass, Bai Zihua had also seen through the shadow's identity.

"So it's you. You deliberately lured me into chasing you?" Elder Wen's expression turned grim. His gaze fell on Bai Zihua's compass. "A Tracking Compass… Hmph. The dignified chief disciple of the Law Enforcement Hall, using a treasured artifact to fuss over a woman."

"Martial Uncle Wen, what an unfortunate coincidence—private revenge falls under the Law Enforcement Hall's jurisdiction as well," Bai Zihua said, implicitly admitting he had lured Elder Wen here. "If you have no evidence and still come seeking revenge, don't blame your junior for reporting this to the Law Enforcement Hall."
