Wee Woo Wee Woo Wee Woo~~!

The school gate exploded with sirens. Several police cars with flashing blue and red lights blocked every exit. Four or five ambulances screeched in right behind them. The second the cars stopped, more than twenty armed cops poured out.

"Freeze! Stop or we'll shoot!"

Shimada Hideo didn't slow down. He sped up instead.

His movement was fucking terrifying. The way he jumped made every cop's jaw drop.

"That thing isn't human! Open fire!" a middle-aged sergeant roared.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The officers pulled the triggers without hesitation. Bullets ripped out at insane speed.

But Shimada was too fast. Only one or two rounds actually hit him.

For a complete parasite like him, a couple bullets were nothing. Unless they punched through his heart or blew his head open, they wouldn't even slow him down.

"Shit! Don't let him reach the school building!" the sergeant yelled. "The layout inside is a nightmare and it's packed with students. If he gets in there, the body count will be massive!"

Meanwhile, teachers were rushing to evacuate the classrooms.

"Vice-president, you're not planning to stay behind again, right?" Yuji stared in shock as Ivan pulled a long sword out of his bag.

Ivan glanced at Shinichi, then shook his head with a smirk. "Of course not. I just figured if we run into a terrorist, having a sword might come in handy."

While they were talking, Shimada Hideo had already stormed into the school building.

The main hall was a slaughterhouse. Bodies lay chopped and scattered everywhere. The thick stench of blood hit like a slap to the face. The cops who arrived a moment later turned ghostly white. One rookie immediately bent over and puked his guts out.

"Shinichi, he's already killed four people. He's coming straight for us," Migi warned.

Unlike Parasyte A, Shimada knew the school layout perfectly. After slicing one poor bastard clean in half with his tentacles, he glanced toward Shinichi's direction, seemed to think of something, and suddenly changed course.

"Then I'll have to draw him away," Shinichi said.

"No," Migi cut in immediately. "His target isn't you. It's the evacuating students. Specifically Satomi Murano."

"He's trying to force you out while venting all the rage he's built up these past few days," Ivan said, figuring out Shimada's real plan in a heartbeat.

"He's… not human, is he?"

Tachikawa Yuko pulled a bottle of concentrated sulfuric acid out of her drawer. "A few days ago I actually saw him change into another person's face. My brother's a cop, and he told me about the monsters. I wanted to talk to Hideo, tell him to leave the school. I never thought he'd be this brutal and just attack the place directly."

She looked at Ivan and placed the glass bottle in front of him.

"If it can help, take it. Please… make sure you protect Satomi."

Ivan figured Yuko had probably suspected him and Shinichi for a while now. She just never said it out loud.

"I'll do my best." Ivan slipped the bottle into his pocket.

Then he followed Shinichi, both of them rushing toward Shimada Hideo's location.

Luckily the cops who had entered the building were keeping him busy with gunfire. Otherwise things would've been a total disaster.

But guns weren't much of a threat to a complete parasite, especially up close. Shimada's head split apart into two extremely long tentacles. Razor-sharp blades dangled from the tips, swaying slowly in the air like a pair of deadly scorpion tails, elegant and lethal.

Shhht!

The tentacles whipped through the air, leaving blurred afterimages. Normal human reaction speed couldn't keep up at all.

A flash of cold steel crossed a body. The cop who got hit slid apart diagonally into two clean halves.

After killing one, Shimada didn't stop. He turned on the rest of the officers and attacked without hesitation.

Watching their buddies get butchered, the surviving cops started firing faster.

Bang! Bang! Bang!!

Sparks flew from the muzzles.

Blood sprayed from every spot where bullets hit Shimada. Even though he dodged most of them, a few still found his heart. Once the heart took damage, his movements clearly slowed down.

"You all deserve to die."

The razor tentacles suddenly filled the entire hallway.

By the time Ivan and Shinichi arrived, every single cop had been turned into chopped-up meat.

Blood. Mangled corpses. The thick, choking stench of slaughter.

The second the scene hit Shinichi's eyes, pure terror took over his face. His heart felt like it had been slammed by a sledgehammer. The shock was too much. He dropped to one knee, one hand clutching his chest, the other braced against the floor.

It was an absolutely horrifying sight.

Even Ivan had never seen anything this brutal. He forced down the bile rising in his throat. These cops meant nothing to him, but he still felt a flicker of respect. They'd fought to the end against a monster like Shimada.

"Shinichi, get your breathing under control. He's coming our way," Migi said, emerging from the back of Shinichi's hand.

"I can't… I can't handle this," Shinichi gasped, clutching the front of his shirt so hard his knuckles turned white. His eyes were bloodshot, veins bulging on his forehead. He gritted his teeth, every breath hissing through them.

But as his emotions faded, his face went blank. He stood up slowly, completely expressionless.

Shimada Hideo stood at one end of the blood-soaked hallway.

Ivan and Shinichi stood at the other.

The three of them stared at each other across the pool of gore.

"I'm going to kill you. I swear it," Shinichi growled. His right arm twisted and morphed into a razor-sharp blade in an instant.

"Then come try it."

They slammed into each other at the same time, moving at terrifying speed.

Clang! Clang!! Clang!

The hallway filled with nonstop metallic crashes. Both of them attacked so fast Ivan could barely catch the movements, and that was after his reaction time had been boosted by the kendo talent.

His attack speed is even faster than Parasyte A, Ivan thought.

He figured Shimada would rank pretty high even inside Reiko Tamura's organization.

For now, Ivan couldn't jump in without messing up Shinichi's rhythm. He had to wait for the right moment. Even Reiko Tamura had limits. Normal parasites could only keep up this kind of insane pace for about ten to fifteen seconds at most.

Once that time ran out, their speed would drop hard.

That was the lesson Ivan had learned from fighting multiple parasites.
