Chapter 7 - The Battle of Williamsburg Bridge

They stand before the entrance of a suspension bridge.

"We've reached the battlefield!" announces MacLeod.

A full moon hangs low in the night sky, hovering right above the East River. The water below reflects the celestial orb, illuminating the entire bridge in dim white light.

At the other end of the bridge is a massive horde of mutant reptiles, 3000 in total. Each one has a varied appearance, no two look the same, possessing some unique amalgamation of elongated claws, razor sharp fangs, bony crests, and spiky protrusions along their backs and long tails.

They resemble common reptile species to varying degrees. Some look more like lizards while others look more like alligators, and a few are more serpentine. But most are a chimeric hybrid of two or three species. Their most distinctive trait, which they all have in common, is their neon green coloration, so bright and saturated that they almost appear to glow in the dark of night.

MacLeod steps forward, "I am Felix MacLeod, chief of the Cat Clan. You are encroaching on our fiefdom. If you step foot on that bridge we will have no choice but to attack. This is your last chance. Turn back now and we won't kill you."

Two Reptilians, larger than the rest, move through the ranks carrying a gold-colored palanquin, its bearing poles resting on their shoulders. Atop the platform is a snake sitting in an ornate, golden chair decorated with blue and orange accents. It wears a head dress that resembles a cobra's hood and holds a black scepter tipped with a golden ornament, its tail coiled around the shaft. It looked like some kind of sorcerer!

The snake opens its venom dripping maw and begins to hiss out terrible speech, "You? kill usss? The arroganccce of you foolisssh fuzzballsss! Sssurrender now and we'll consssider keeping you alive as slavesss."

MacLeod stares down the villainous vermin and says, "It is better to live a single day as a lion than to live one hundred years like a flock of sheep."

"You will be neither! But will instead be like lambs led to the slaughter!" replies the snake.

The serpentine sorcerer points his scepter forward and screeches, "Reptiliansss, attaaaaaack!"

The mutant horde gnashes their fangs and claws at the air. They let out a horrid screech that rang through the bridge, causing the cables to vibrate.

On the other side of the bridge, the Cat Clan army cast off their cloaks revealing their bodies covered in blue warpaint. They raise their switchblades in the air in unison then from the front to the back they pop out their blades, mimicking the motion of a wave, while making a continuous click-click-click sound.

The cat army unleashes a mighty "RAAAAAAAAHWR!" which shook the ground beneath them. Ricci looks around in astonishment.

"What is this power?" he thinks to himself.

MacLeod leads the charge, with Ricci and Lionel running right behind him. The two armies race onto the bridge at breakneck speed, charging head on towards one another.

The opposing sides clash mightily. The force of the collision releases a tremendous amount of energy through the bridge, causing the whole thing to oscillate. Even the waters of the East River below begin to ripple. But the armies fought on unflinchingly.

The cats stab and slash while the Reptilians scratch and bite. Ricci darts through the Reptilian horde like flickering lightning. Slicing and dicing his way into the center of the enemy's ranks. He parries their claw swipes with his sword and instantly follows up with a sword slash.

MacLeod does his fair share of the fighting. He halts the advancing Reptilians with his shield then follows up with a sword thrust. Often he uses his shield as a concussive weapon in tandem with his sword. Knocking the enemy to the ground then finishing them off. Overwhelming his opponent with sheer force. The Reptilians burst into green goop one by one.

The Cat Clan, with MacLeod and Ricci leading the charge, penetrate the ranks of the Reptilian army. They break ranks and begin to scatter around the bridge, each Reptilian fighting desperately to save himself.

The Serpent Sorcerer watches on from behind and begins to panic. He points his staff forward and shouts, "Releassse the Python!"
