Chapter 51 - Recruiting Talent

Daenerys, as Queen, also served as the highest administrator of the Academy, while Missandei was appointed head of the language department and political science teacher. Other department heads would be selected after the public recruitment process.

Having finalized the plan, Daenerys felt very satisfied. Drogon, however, sensed something amiss and retreated outside to ponder.

During the planning process, Daenerys had played a crucial role, proposing numerous innovative suggestions that he had also considered.

As a native of this world, it was normal for her to come up with one or two novel ideas for establishing an academy. But it was highly unusual for her to incorporate so many elements of modern thinking.

Yet the Dragon Mother had indeed offered many such ideas. As he quietly recalled the details of the planning session under the night sky, Drogon realized something terrifying: the Dragon Mother seemed to know what he was thinking!

A chill ran down his spine. His greatest fear was that she would discover his identity as a transmigrator. After carefully reviewing every interaction they had shared, she didn't seem to have noticed anything.

Even though she was a master of disguise and acting, Drogon didn't believe she could maintain the act if she discovered his true identity as a transmigrator.

*Could I be overthinking this?* he wondered. *Perhaps the Dragon Mother is simply exceptionally gifted and can't read my thoughts?*

If that were the case, he would have surely exposed his transmigrator identity long ago.

After calming himself at high altitude for a while, he began practicing emptying his mind, striving for a state of mental stillness. Yet the more he tried, the more his thoughts raced—fearful of the Dragon Mother discovering his secret and worried she might learn too much.

He practiced for hours, only managing to suppress his chaotic thoughts late into the night. He remained motionless on the tree trunk until dawn, barely achieving a state of mental tranquility.

Daenerys found Drogon's sudden departure at night somewhat peculiar, but she didn't dwell on it. It wasn't the first time he had been absent from his chambers at night.

After spending the night devising her Academy plans, Daenerys issued two royal decrees in Yunkai the following day.

The first decree announced that anyone possessing special talents could register in Yunkai Square to be considered for royal employment or to continue their studies at the newly established Academy.

Special talents encompassed all fields and trades, from urban and national governance to metallurgy, blacksmithing, and agricultural expertise.

The Queen will invest heavily in collecting various books. Any bound volumes may be brought for sale, with prices determined by their content.

The two announcements quickly spread through every alley and street of Yunkai. However, most people adopted a wait-and-see attitude, puzzled by the meaning of the first announcement.

It wasn't until a bold individual tentatively approached the registration office at the square, stated their special talent, and left with a smile after registering their name and address that more people began to arrive.

In contrast to the gradually bustling talent registration center, the book collection point remained deserted, with almost no visitors.

Drogon, who was watching the commotion in the square, soon understood the reason for the lack of books.

As a slave city, Yunkai had no need for slaves to read. The Wise Masters were too busy training slaves and indulging in lavish lives of wine and meat to have time for reading. The only place where reading was truly valued was Westeros.

Even some specialized books would be unavailable in Westeros. For example, the Citadel professors primarily taught physicians and scholars, focusing on medical techniques, continental history, family crests, and mottos.

Only knowledge useful to the ruling class or vital to survival was recorded; other books were extremely scarce.

Let alone books on construction, manufacturing, or agriculture, Drogon doubted even systematic language learning texts existed. *Why not write books myself?* he couldn't help but wonder. *That would have a far greater impact on this world. That's when it would truly become an Academy.*

Daenerys, who had been watching the bustling registration scene, paused, her ears perked to Drogon's mental voice. Her eyes darted back and forth.

"Write books myself?" The idea struck her again with force.

Seeing the deserted book collection point, she grew anxious. She didn't know much about the Citadel, but later asked Barristan and Jorah about it, learning it was the center of Westerosi knowledge, housing most of the continent's books.

She also knew the Citadel's collection was limited. If Drogon's idea came to fruition, the Academy's library would eventually surpass the book market in scope and depth, wielding greater influence across the continent.

Even if Daenerys couldn't write books herself, she understood the immense allure such an endeavor held for the learned and talented.

Watching Daenerys's eyes dart around and her expression shift unpredictably, Drogon calmed himself and continued to observe the bustling square with a composed demeanor.

The vast Yunkai square was now packed with people. While some had come to register, the majority were simply curious onlookers.

Though Yunkai primarily trained bed slaves, the Wise Masters also required other servants, including those with specialized skills.

By noon, two announcements had spread throughout the city. Dockworkers and merchants, upon hearing the news, flocked to the square to witness the spectacle.

Observing the enthusiastic Yunkai residents, Daenerys was surprised to find so many talented individuals among them.

After several hours of registration, the record book included not only skilled builders and farmers proficient in rice cultivation, but also healers and teachers with basic knowledge.

Daenerys recognized one of the teachers: a gaunt old man responsible for teaching the Wise Masters' children to read, write, and perform simple calculations.

In addition, several anxious musicians and artists inquired about registering. With Daenerys's approval, Missandei added them to the record book.

The register recorded not only the visitors' names, addresses, origins, and special skills, but also their intentions, to facilitate future arrangements.

"Khaleesi, a man over there wants to sell over a dozen books, but he'll only sell them if he's allowed to join the Academy," Eli, the maid in charge of collecting books, said as she approached Daenerys.

"Join the Academy?" Daenerys's interest piqued as she walked to the book collection point.

A man leaning on a cane, dressed in tattered clothes, stood waiting at the table.

He turned at the sound of footsteps, and Daenerys finally saw his face clearly: gaunt, with slightly disheveled white hair, he appeared to be in his fifties.

When he saw Daenerys, his previously clouded eyes brightened noticeably. He leaned down with difficulty, using his cane for support, and knelt on one knee. "Your Majesty!"

Daenerys stared in surprise at the middle-aged man struggling to prostrate himself before her, wondering why he would perform such a formal bow despite his physical limitations.

"Are you Darren Rael?" Barristan suddenly stepped forward from Daenerys's side, looking down at the kneeling man.

"Sir Barristan, it's been a long time!" The man smiled as he looked up at Barristan.
