Chapter 31 - The Iron Woman

"Zhuogeng, remember to visit me often!" Shireen didn't press him further, stroking his neck with lingering affection.

Zhuogeng knew that Shireen had only one friend here, the Onion Knight, and wasn't allowed to go out freely, spending her days with only books for company.

He didn't know if the Onion Knight had been released yet. He needed to rescue Shireen quickly to avoid any complications and to alleviate her loneliness.

After bidding farewell to Shireen, Zhuogeng flew toward King's Landing to check if Varys had left him a message.

After nearly an hour of flight, he arrived in King's Landing and went to the agreed-upon meeting spot: a dilapidated street in Flea Bottom, the city's poorest district, littered with sewage.

Glancing around to ensure no one was watching, Zhuogeng pulled a loose red brick from the wall and retrieved a rolled-up parchment. He flew to the rooftop and carefully unrolled the parchment:

*Joffrey's wedding is imminent. Tyrion and Sansa are engaged. Tywin, seeking to disrupt the alliance between Highgarden and the North, plans to marry Cersei to Loras, the brother of Highgarden's Little Rose. Prince Oberyn of Dorne has arrived in King's Landing—his intentions may not be benevolent.*

Zhuogeng had a favorable impression of Oberyn. Though wild and unrestrained, he was deeply loyal and just. He had sown his seed across the continent but still cared for all his illegitimate daughters.

Unfortunately, the Mountain's headshot, due to carelessness, indirectly harmed Tyrion and benefited Cersei.

After briefly reviewing the intelligence, Zhuogeng sat on the rooftop to ponder the current situation in King's Landing.

Two Red Weddings, events that would shake the continent, were imminent. While he cared nothing for the fate of that little monster Joffrey, he couldn't bear to let Catelyn Stark and her son be slaughtered.

After some thought, he picked up his pen and wrote: "Walder has secretly reached an agreement with Tywin to massacre the Starks and the nobles of the North and Riverlands at Edmure's wedding. Roose will defect. Shae is in imminent danger, but do not attempt to move her away from Tyrion—the price of forcing her betrayal would be too high."

After finishing, he paused and added: "Keep Oberyn away from the Mountain. He must be wary of being caught off guard and killed."

Varys had once desperately urged Ned Stark to acknowledge Joffrey's legitimacy to save his life. Though Ned was ultimately beheaded, Varys had done his best.

He had also tried to rescue Sansa from King's Landing, but Littlefinger Petyr had beaten him to it. Hearing of the impending slaughter of the Starks, he would certainly not stand idly by.

Zhuogeng had no intention of warning Joffrey about the Red Wedding; he would gladly see the boy dead.

He also kept his silence from Varys about Sansa's abduction by Littlefinger. After Joffrey's death, without Tyrion's protection, she would be even more vulnerable.

Having finished writing what he needed to tell Varys, Zhuogeng tucked the rolled-up letter into a crack in the red brick wall and waited to observe the impending chaos in King's Landing.

As soon as he left the capital, he soared toward the Wall, constantly comparing the map in his mind to the landscape below.

He crossed the famous Trident, circled the impregnable Eyrie, and spotted the Twins' bridge—the one Robb had used as a toll with a marriage vow. He flew over the Neck, skimmed past the First Men's burial mounds scattered across the wilderness, and finally hovered over Winterfell.

Winterfell was now a shadow of its former self. The bustling prosperity of the past was gone. The North's largest castle lay in ruins, its walls and larger structures still standing, while dozens of workers hurried to repair the damage.

Zhuogeng knew Theon was currently enduring the sadistic torments of the Bastard of Bolton, but he had no intention of intervening. Theon deserved it all. After all, he had only burned Winterfell, not truly harmed Bran and Rickon.

As Zhuogeng prepared to accelerate north from Winterfell, he suddenly spotted dozens of figures lurking at the edge of the nearby forest, their behavior far from normal.

*Could they be planning to attack Winterfell? The North is currently vulnerable, with the House Karstark likely still returning. Who would dare attack the city now that Littlefinger has it?*

Zhuogeng flew a bit further away, then quietly entered the forest, stealthily approaching the small group. They all wore dark gray clothing, each armed with at least one weapon. Most rested in the tall grass, while a few stood guard.

Zhuogeng flew to the top of a tree and slowly moved closer, finally overhearing their conversation.

"What's the point of saving that useless bastard? It made us come all this way for nothing," two guards at the edge of the group whispered.

"I heard even the Lord of the Isles didn't want to save his worthless son. Yara insisted on coming herself. No wonder it's just us few here!"

Yara? Hearing the name, Zhuogeng scanned the group more closely. Indeed, he spotted a sturdy woman with a slicked-back hairstyle among them. At first glance, one might not even realize she was a woman.

Zhuogeng then remembered that Littlefinger, at his father Roose's command, had driven the Ironborn from the North back to the Iron Islands. He sent Balon Greyjoy, Theon's father, a threatening letter, and included Theon's *penis* in the box.

If Balon didn't withdraw all the Ironborn from the North, who had been raiding everywhere, Theon's *body parts* would be delivered to him one by one.

Balon had never thought much of Theon and intended to pass the Iron Islands to his daughter Yara. Naturally, he wouldn't bother to exchange him.

Moreover, Theon had been castrated and could no longer father heirs, making it even less likely that Balon would agree to Littlefinger's demands.

Yara couldn't bear to see her brother tortured further by Littlefinger and secretly led troops to rescue him.

To her surprise, when she stormed the dog kennel and tried to take Theon from his iron cage, she was rejected by Theon, whose personality had been broken into Reek. Not only did she fail to rescue him, but she nearly lost her own life.

Judging by their condition, they had only arrived recently. They would likely infiltrate Winterfell after dark.

The Ironborn, driven back to the Iron Islands by Littlefinger after their failed rescue attempt, would soon welcome their new island lord: Euron Greyjoy, the world's second most twisted man and captain of the *Silence*.

Thinking of Zhuogeng, he felt a slight wariness. It was said he was at odds with his brother Balon, who had declared that as long as he ruled the Iron Islands, Euron would never be allowed to return.

Euron claimed to have traveled the entire world, even venturing into the volcanic fumes and reef-strewn ruins of Valyria.

Now that he had encountered Yara, the Ironwoman, he didn't mind causing some trouble for Euron.

Diving deep into the jungle, he landed in a clearing and retrieved paper, a quill, an inkwell, and sealing wax from his backpack. This time, he had not only replenished his parchment and ink but also brought sealing wax.

He pressed his small claw down, and after the wax had dried, he quietly flew back above the group. Spotting an Ironborn snoring soundly, he released the rolled-up letter.

The bearded Ironborn was jolted awake by the letter hitting him. He turned his head and saw the scroll on the ground.

"Someone's here!" he hissed in a hushed voice.

Dozens of men immediately rose to their feet, scanning their surroundings warily. Seeing Yara approaching with her men, the bearded man handed her the letter.

"Where did this come from?" Yara asked, taking the scroll.

"I don't know. It hit me on the head," the man replied uncertainly.
