Thomas seated himself on a bench in the nave, where the congregation usually sat during church services. He stared at the altar, his thoughts scattering like leaves in the wind. Suddenly, a tap on his shoulder startled him. He turned to find Sister Maura smiling warmly at him.
He recognised the middle-aged woman with the religious head covering who looked so elegant. Sister Maura greeted him and took a seat a short distance away from him.
The two sat in silence for a moment, lost in their own thoughts. Thomas hadn't opened his mouth since Sister Maura was seated.
"Have you just returned from serving His Majesty the King?" Sister Maura initiated the conversation, her calm and serene voice bringing peace to Thomas. However, he couldn't hide the unease that had been troubling him.
He didn't answer immediately, instead scratching the back of his head awkwardly.
"Yeah, I'm just trying to calm myself down."
