My system update finished shortly after I got all my loot organized in the reception area of the motel. I wasted no time at all checking it out and had to admit the system was certainly generous. The inventory had two separate inventories in truth. The first was the card storage space that was infinite in size. I could store any and all of my already summoned cards there when not in use. This would be SUPER fucking useful since once I had enough creatures summoned I'd effectively have an army on me at all times. -
The second inventory was limited in space in that I could only have sixty things on me at once but the things could stack if they were the same infinitely. So the loot that was the same as another thing stacked in the inventory taking up one of the sixty slots. That number of slots wasn't random either as it just so happened to be the size of the standard Magic the gathering deck. A nice touch if I did say so myself.-
"That inventory defies the laws of matter and physics. I am recording no energy readings out of the ordinary nor any additional weight upon your personage." Adam said flatly.
"Magic son! You may praise me at your leisure!" I said posing grandly with my arms stretched wide.
"No." Adam said blankly.
"Tch, no fun at all. Well whatever, lets go rescue us a deputy shall we?" I said as I walked deeper into the hotel.
It was a lobby area with a broken elevator, a gift shop that had long been ransacked and three doors and a hallway that curved out of view. Everything was rusted, flaking or crumbling from age and lack of maintenance. -
I headed into the shop that only had rusted cans and a cash register with prewar money in it left over. There on the flaking crumbling counter was a hand illustrated sort of short story magazine.
"Tales of a junk town jerky vendor. Classic wasteland entertainment right there. Wonder if it's actually any good or not?" I said picking up the rough paper thing and flicking it open.
"This manuscript appears to merely be a recounting of a merchants unusual trade. I don't understand the entertainment value of it." Adam said confused.
"It's a matter of perspective I suppose. Compared to grand literary masterpieces like the lord of the rings, moby dick or Alice in wonderland sure it's complete trash. But the vast majority of books have been wiped out and any new ones have to be hand written and copied. A lot of knowledge you might consider basic is simply lost to time except to those who hoard it to themselves. Paper production and printing press technology fall into this category. So far there simply hasn't been anyone in these groups who cared enough to try and fix this problem even if they could so short stories like this that are cheaply made are the best you'll find unless you come across some intact books." I explained honestly as I put the magazine away.
"Are you certain you don't wish to create an empire? You could fix these problems yourself?" Adam asked seriously.
"Nah, i'm good. Let some other shmuck take the burden of fixing the world onto their shoulders. I'm in this life for myself, someone else can break themselves into pieces selflessly but i'm not that guy." I said firmly.
"I will revisit this matter at a latter date." Adam said before allowing the matter to drop for now.
I ignored the doors in the lobby area and walked into the hotels ballroom/cafeteria hall. It was a wide square room with white and black checkered tile floors that the tables of had been set up on their sides as a sort of barrier. There was a whole brahmin stuck on a spit over a fire at the far end of the hall and a few ammo canisters and gunny sacks behind the table barricade. The ammo canisters had bullets for the guns the powder gangers were using and the gunny sacks had several sticks of dynamite and various foods, chems and spare clothes. I looted what was worth looting and left the rest as I headed for the absolutely shattered double doors leading to the hotels kitchen.-
"I take it you're the cavalry? Can't say as I expected you to be a robot but i'm not picky." the tied up blonde man sitting at the back of the kitchen said with a nervous smile.
"Got something against robots meatbag?" I asked as I squeezed the counter causing the metal to groan and warp under my fingers.
He audibly gulped down his saliva as sweat beaded his forehead.
"Ah um, no not at all. Robots are some of my best friends, you can ask anyone." he said nervously.
"Hahaha, sorry about that i'm just fucking with you man. I'm human and this get up is a suit of armor." I said with a laugh.
"Damnit seriously!? That's a fucked up thing to do to a man in my position. Can you just untie me already?" he said both angry and visibly relieved.
"Maybe a little fucked up but from where I was standing it was hilarious." I said snickering as I popped his ropes easily.
"Of course I had to be recued by a joker. Well whatever, you've done me and Primm a solid by clearing out those gangers. Now I need to see about finding something to eat, haven't had a bite in days." he said as his stomach growled as if to emphasize his point.
"You have fun with that. I'll finish looting the hotel before heading to the casino to collect the reward for clearing them out." I said casually.
"Most of the good stuff's already been taken but I suppose if you turn over enough something might pop up." he said with a shrug before leaving.
I didn't lie when I was going to loot the place either as upstairs there were plenty of freshly dead powder gangers that had loot on them. My Skirge was sitting on my shoulder as testament to that fact. In truth most of these gangers had a stick or two of dynamite on them but otherwise not much else. I collected a decent amount of NCR money ammo and spare ten millimeters pistols or varmint rifles but that was pretty much it. Thanks to playing New Vegas a few times in the past I knew that there was a stash of good stuff in a spot kinda out of the way that I got to. -
It was just a few extra guns, sticks of dynamite and ammo cases. I stashed it all into my inventory and left the hotel via jumping out the window on the second story, superhero style.
"I always wanted to do that!" I said slightly giddy as I grinned.
"Seek psychiatric help." Adam said flatly.
"Never!" I replied cheerfully with a laugh.
