Chapter 1 - The Awakening

Ding Dong!

Lukas yawned and stretched out his hands after he was woken up by the doorbell.

"Damn, can't you pick a better time."

His mind was in a daze, and he cursed in the direction of the door.

It was nearly afternoon and life as a game streamer had made his schedule different from others.

Sleeping at night was a luxury for him.

It was peak hours for him to earn money through the gifts and subscriptions from the viewers.

He got up from his bed, scratched his back while he rubbed his eyes, and walked towards the door.

Looking through the door viewer peephole, he saw no one outside.

He figured that it might have been a delivery and opened the door.

But there was nothing outside.

"If I ever get my hands on those pranksters..." Lukas grumbled, closed the door, and headed to the bathroom to wash himself up.

Since he was up, he might as well start the day off.

He made himself a cup of instant ramen and turned on his PC.

It didn't take long for his PC to boot up, and before he clicked on the browser icon, he noticed that there was an icon he had never seen before on the desktop.

Lukas quickly tried to recall the things he had done yesterday.

Maybe he had accidentally clicked on something or gone to webpages he shouldn't have, like unsavory sites....

He was always careful about such things, and after a few minutes of recalling, he couldn't think of anything that he had done to compromise his PC.

After being pranked, he wasn't in a very good mood, and coupled with the lack of sleep, he cursed and double-clicked on the icon that had the words 'SSS Ranked Awakening: Beyond the Abyss'.

He shook his head at the attention-grabbing title that was like those that were now infesting all the different media.

Although he wasn't sure what it was, he had started to record his screen.

A live streamer would never give up the chance of capturing possible good content.

If this virus program nuked his PC, he would at least get something out of it.

"SSS this and SSS that...when will it ever end." He lamented but was surprised by the splash screen that appeared.

It showed special effects and the title of this program.

"What in the world? These virus makers are so professional now?" He marveled at the fact that the splash screen exceeded his expectation and pressed his mouse button.

Another screen appeared.

There were several worlds in the options.

One was an apocalypse world about zombies and survival, and the other was a futuristic world where demonic beasts had descended onto the world.

And lastly, there was a world where it was about beast tamers.

Lukas frowned and thought for a moment.

The graphics with the snapshot of the worlds were top-notch.

Looking more realistic than the AAA titles he had played recently.

"Would I be able to play in the other world if I completed one of them?" Thoughts about the program being a virus had been thrown out of his mind.

He was starting to think that it was a shady marketing tactic from the game company.

"Interesting..." The idea of it made Lukas excited for the game, and he selected the second option.

He had just finished streaming another game that was about the apocalypse, so he wasn't that interested in the first world.

As for the last option, he wasn't into beast taming, so he ignored it.

After he selected the second option, the screen began loading again.

Lukas was met with the aerial view of a city at first, and the camera then zoomed into a stadium.

Inside the stadium, there were spectators sitting in their seats, and on the VIP podium, a few men and women sat in their formal suits and gowns, looking very prestigious.

And in the middle of the stadium, there were a group of young men and women standing around, who seemed to be waiting for something.

"Huh. This must be the part where these young ones are about to go through the awakening process."

Lukas was also an avid reader of web novels, and he recognized the setting immediately.

The screen froze and turned black and white, and then it faded out to another screen with the words:

There were a few young men and women that he could choose.

Lukas went through them, and he wasn't too pleased with it.

"The 3D models look realistic, but they aren't sexy or anything..." He sighed and took note of it.

The young men and women looked...normal...

They came in different body forms and none of them looked very appealing.

It was like the game makers were trying their very best to piss the players off.

That was until he stumbled upon a young woman character.

She had brown flowing hair and her face was the prettiest of them all.

Lukas took his time, zoomed in and out to see the 3D model from all angles.

It looked so realistic, with every strand of hair on the skin visible when he zoomed in at maximum setting.

The skin was so tender that it reacted when he clicked with his mouse cursor.

Lukas nodded to himself and decided that this would be his character.

There were certain advantages when you played a woman character if it was an online game, and although Lukas wasn't sure if this game had any online option, it wouldn't hurt playing this character with the eye candy available to him.

His viewers would also love to see such beauty in action when he streamed the game.

...

Emma was anxious about the awakening process, but her body suddenly froze, and she was unable to move.

Not now... Things can't go wrong for her now.

Her face blushed when she felt someone touching her body, but when she moved her eyeballs around, there wasn't anyone in front of her.

That made Emma worried that she was hallucinating due to her anxiety.

"Congrats to Bob for his S Level Earth Ability!" Cheers erupted when the examiner saw the result on the huge screen on the stage.
