Chapter 36 - Chapter 36: “After the Storm”

Sunday evening.

The city lights glittered through the apartment window, reflecting softly on the calm faces of Isabelle and Marco. For the first time in weeks, the tension that had dominated their lives seemed to melt away, replaced by a quiet sense of relief.

"Can you believe it's finally over… at least for now?" Isabelle murmured, leaning back against Marco as he wrapped an arm around her.

He kissed the top of her head. "I can believe it. But I also know… life doesn't stop throwing challenges. It just gives us small victories before the next storm."

Isabelle nodded, a small smile on her lips. "I guess that's true. But… this victory feels sweeter because we did it together. Not just surviving, but standing tall."

Marco smiled, brushing a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "Exactly. And we grew stronger, smarter, more connected than ever. We learned to trust each other fully—without hesitation."

She looked into his eyes, feeling warmth spread through her chest. "I never thought I could feel this calm after so much chaos. But with you… I do. You're my anchor, Marco."

"And you're mine, Isabelle. Always," he whispered, pressing his lips gently against hers. The kiss was soft, lingering, full of unspoken promises and relief.

They stayed like that for a while, the city outside moving at its usual pace while inside, the world felt perfectly still.

Later, they sat with cups of tea, talking quietly about the past weeks.

"I can't believe how much we went through," Isabelle said, a faint laugh escaping her. "Clara, Victor, Lorenzo… I mean, seriously, what a nightmare."

Marco chuckled. "Yeah… but every nightmare has a silver lining. We proved we can survive anything—together. And I've realized something important."

"What?" Isabelle asked, curious.

"I don't want to waste time worrying about what-ifs anymore," Marco said, holding her hands tightly. "Life is unpredictable, yes—but with you, I feel ready for anything. I want to focus on us, on our happiness, and on building something real."

Her eyes softened, tears threatening but held back. "I feel the same way. I don't want fear or betrayal to dictate our lives anymore. I want… love. Trust. Laughter. And you."

He smiled, squeezing her hands. "Then let's make it ours. No more chaos controlling us. No more shadows. Just… us."

Isabelle rested her head on his shoulder, letting the moment sink in. "Just us," she whispered.

But even as they held each other, a subtle unease lingered in the back of her mind. Lorenzo's words echoed faintly, a reminder that life could throw tests at them anytime.

Yet Isabelle didn't feel fear. She felt determination. And with Marco by her side, she knew they could face anything, whether it was unexpected enemies, challenges at work, or twists in life.

For now, though… the storm had passed. And for the first time in weeks, Isabelle let herself truly breathe.

Because love—real, unwavering, tested love—was worth every battle.

And with Marco, she was ready for all the chapters of their story yet to come.
