Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: “The Ripple Effect”

Wednesday morning.

Isabelle arrived at the office feeling lighter after yesterday's confrontation with Clara.

She had Marco by her side, and that gave her confidence.

But the office had its own rhythm—and whispers traveled faster than she expected.

"Mira, did you see how Marco stood up for Isabelle yesterday?" one coworker murmured.

"Yeah… I think Clara was fuming," another replied, a smirk in their voice.

Isabelle froze for a moment, realizing that everyone had noticed the tension.

Mia appeared beside her. "Don't mind them," she whispered. "People love to gossip… but Marco and you? You handled it perfectly."

Isabelle took a deep breath, trying to absorb the reassurance. She smiled faintly. "Thanks. I just… hate the rumors. I hate when people twist things around."

Mia nodded. "I know, but at least you two are united. That counts more than anything."

Meanwhile, Marco was reviewing documents in the conference room when his assistant knocked softly.

"Sir, the gossip is spreading faster than expected. Some staff are saying that the 'Marco-Isabelle' thing might affect team dynamics."

Marco raised an eyebrow. "Let them talk," he said firmly. "We can't control what people say. We can only control how we respond."

He leaned back, thinking about how far they had come in just a few weeks. From mistrust, rumors, and manipulations… to standing together.

The growth wasn't just in their relationship—it was in how they handled challenges.

During the team meeting, Isabelle and Marco arrived together, holding hands subtly under the table.

Whispers started, eyes flicked, but neither of them faltered.

Isabelle realized something: the rumors no longer scared her. She had Marco's support, and that made her stronger.

When Clara's name was mentioned indirectly in a side comment from a coworker, Marco responded calmly but firmly, "We focus on the project here, not personal distractions."

The room quieted. Isabelle admired him silently—he had grown from someone hesitant and cautious to someone assertive and protective, without losing his warmth.

After the meeting, Isabelle and Marco walked toward the elevator.

"You know," Isabelle said softly, "it's weird… I thought the gossip would bother me more."

Marco smiled. "It used to bother us because we let it. Now, we're stronger. And we grow stronger together, every time we face it."

She nodded, squeezing his hand. "Yeah… I can see that. I feel that."

Marco leaned down slightly, brushing his lips against her forehead. "And I'll keep proving it. Every day."

She smiled, finally letting herself enjoy the quiet victory.

Yes, the gossip would continue. Clara would keep scheming. But Isabelle and Marco had learned something crucial: they couldn't stop the whispers, but they could control how their hearts responded.

And that… made all the difference.
