Chapter 45 - Chapter 45 – The Battle Beneath Gringotts

Lucas handed the money pouch back to Harry before the two of them climbed into the Gringotts cart once more alongside Griphook.

The tiny cart launched forward instantly.

Harry grabbed the sides in terror.

Meanwhile, Lucas looked delighted.

Honestly, riding through Gringotts' underground tunnels felt like a magical roller coaster, and he thoroughly enjoyed every second of it.

The cart screamed along twisting rails at terrifying speed before finally slowing near a massive iron door.

Vault 713.

Griphook stepped forward and opened it carefully.

Inside sat a small, dirty package wrapped in brown paper.

Lucas calmly walked forward and picked it up before storing it inside his ring without hesitation.

Harry looked incredibly curious.

"What is it?"

Lucas shrugged casually. "No idea. Dumbledore wanted it collected."

Harry clearly wanted to ask more.

But before he could speak—

Lucas's expression changed violently.

"MOVE!"

At the same instant, Harry suddenly felt a powerful invisible force slam into his chest.

He flew backwards into the cart.

A flash of deadly green light sliced through the air exactly where he had been standing half a second earlier.

The Killing Curse narrowly missed Lucas's face before exploding against the wall behind him.

Harry's blood instantly turned cold.

Lucas reacted immediately.

With a violent shove, he threw Griphook back into the cart as well.

"Take Harry and leave! NOW!"

Griphook didn't hesitate for even a second.

The goblin slammed the cart controls forward instantly.

The cart shot down the rails at terrifying speed.

"LUCAS!"

Harry twisted around desperately as wind blasted across his face.

In the distance, he could still see a cloaked wizard standing within the tunnel shadows.

The man's face remained completely hidden beneath black robes.

And directly opposite him—

Lucas had already drawn his wand.

The underground tunnel erupted into chaos.

Spells exploded everywhere.

Stone walls shattered apart under magical blasts while chunks of rock rained down from the ceiling.

Even from far away, Harry could tell the battle was unbelievably dangerous.

Meanwhile, Lucas no longer bothered hiding his true strength.

The moment Harry disappeared down the rails, his expression instantly became cold.

Without hesitation, he raised his wand.

"Avada Kedavra!"

BOOM!

The emerald Killing Curse exploded forward like a cannon blast.

The entire underground tunnel turned green beneath the terrifying light.

Even Quirrell hadn't expected such a fast and powerful Killing Curse from a child.

His pupils contracted violently.

He barely managed to roll sideways in time.

The curse smashed into the wall behind him, detonating stone apart in a violent explosion. Sharp debris blasted across Quirrell's back painfully.

Lucas narrowed his eyes.

As expected.

It was Quirrell.

Originally, Quirrell should have attempted breaking into Gringotts after Hagrid retrieved the Philosopher's Stone.

But now events had clearly shifted.

Lucas quickly pieced the situation together.

Quirrell had probably only intended to steal the Philosopher's Stone at first.

However, after spotting Harry Potter entering Diagon Alley accompanied only by another child, the man had evidently changed plans midway and decided to eliminate both targets together.

After all, in the original timeline, Hagrid had escorted Harry.

And despite appearances, Hagrid was absolutely not weak.

The giant half-breed possessed terrifying magical resistance and frightening physical durability. Quirrell wouldn't have dared risk direct confrontation while Hagrid stood nearby.

Unfortunately for him—

Today's escort was Lucas Summers.

And Quirrell had severely underestimated him.

The truth wasn't far from Lucas's guess either.

At first, Quirrell genuinely thought Lucas was merely some talented Hogwarts student assigned to collect Harry Potter.

Then he overheard something far more shocking.

The boy was also retrieving the item from Vault 713.

For a brief moment, Quirrell had nearly gone dizzy from excitement.

Harry Potter.

The Philosopher's Stone.

Both targets together.

It felt like destiny itself handing him victory.

So the moment Lucas secured the package—

Quirrell attacked instantly.

Unfortunately, Lucas's danger sense activated faster than Quirrell expected.

The warning gave him enough time to save Harry and Griphook first.

Now?

Now Lucas stopped holding back.

Spells exploded from his wand one after another like machine-gun fire.

Quirrell retaliated furiously with repeated Killing Curses, but Lucas didn't dodge at all.

Instead, he flicked his wand sharply.

Broken rubble instantly transformed into an elegant floating shield that intercepted the curses midair.

Green light exploded continuously across its surface.

Lucas almost wanted to laugh.

Did Quirrell only know one spell?

Any competent wizard would have switched to blasting curses immediately after seeing shield transfiguration.

But Quirrell stubbornly kept throwing Killing Curses like a lunatic.

Then suddenly—

Quirrell cast another Avada Kedavra.

Lucas vanished.

Quirrell's eyes widened.

"Shadow Step."

Lucas's figure instantly appeared behind him like a phantom.

At the same moment, dark blue flames erupted from Lucas's left hand.

The fire twisted and condensed into a massive sword formed entirely from Fiendfyre.

Grindelwald-brand Fiendfyre.

One of its greatest advantages?

It didn't burn the caster.

Lucas drove the blazing sword directly towards Quirrell's back.

The flaming blade nearly pierced straight through his chest.

But at the final moment—

Quirrell's body suddenly exploded into black mist.

The dark smoke fled backwards at astonishing speed.

Even so, Fiendfyre still brushed against the edge of his robes.

An agonised scream echoed through the tunnel instantly.

Lucas narrowed his eyes sharply.

Within that black mist, he sensed an aura that was unbelievably cold and evil.

Ancient.

Twisted.

Rotten.

Voldemort.

Quirrell alone never could've escaped that strike.

The moment he faced death, the creature attached to the back of his head had clearly awakened temporarily and seized control of the body.

That was the only explanation.

Lucas silently memorised the sinister aura.

Sooner or later, they would meet again.

Far in the distance, Quirrell's miserable screams still echoed faintly through the tunnels while the Fiendfyre continued burning him.

Even touching a tiny fragment of those flames was catastrophic.

Then suddenly—

Cracking sounds echoed repeatedly around Lucas.

POP! POP! POP!

Figures began Apparating into the tunnel from every direction.

Aurors.

Dozens of wands immediately pointed directly at Lucas.

Gringotts had likely temporarily lifted its Anti-Apparition protections and provided emergency coordinates for the Ministry response team.

"DON'T MOVE!"

"DROP YOUR WAND!"

Lucas sighed heavily.

No matter which world he lived in, the authorities always seemed to arrive after the dangerous part ended.

Still, he wasn't worried.

This situation could obviously be explained.

Then suddenly—

His danger sense screamed again.

Lucas's face changed instantly.

Without hesitation, he slammed his wand downwards.

Broken rubble flew upwards and rapidly transformed into a massive shield directly in front of him.

A second later—

BOOM!

Another Killing Curse smashed into the shield.

Emerald light exploded across the tunnel.

Lucas's expression darkened immediately.

Quirrell hadn't left yet.

Unfortunately, the Aurors completely misunderstood the situation.

Seeing Lucas suddenly summon a defensive barrier while surrounded by Ministry officers, they immediately assumed he was resisting arrest.

Several Aurors panicked instantly and raised their wands aggressively.

Lucas nearly exploded from rage.

Were these people complete idiots?

There was still a gigantic green Killing Curse visible in the air!

Without hesitation, the Aurors began firing spells towards him.

Lucas snapped.

"This," he barked furiously while counterattacking, "is why Dark wizards think the Ministry's incompetent!"

Naturally, he refrained from using any Unforgivable Curses this time.

By now, Quirrell had definitely escaped already.
