Chapter 6 - The Fire That Doesn’t Let Go

The top floor of Lin Corporation was silent.

Not the kind of silence that came from emptiness—

But the kind that came from control.

Every employee moved carefully. Every voice stayed low. Every decision passed through one place.

The CEO's office.

Floor-to-ceiling glass revealed the entire city below, lights stretching endlessly like veins of gold. Inside, the room was minimal—clean lines, dark tones, no unnecessary decoration.

At the center—

Lin Yanyan sat behind her desk.

A stack of documents lay untouched in front of her.

Her pen rested between her fingers, unmoving.

Her eyes, however… were not focused on work.

They were distant.

Sharp.

Thinking.

"Chairwoman," her assistant said carefully from the side, "the board is waiting for your approval on the overseas acquisition—"

"Later."

One word.

Calm.

Flat.

The assistant froze slightly.

That wasn't unusual.

What was unusual…

Was the fact that Lin Yanyan had rejected three meetings already.

That never happened.

Not unless something more important was occupying her mind.

The assistant hesitated.

"…Is something wrong?"

Lin Yanyan didn't answer immediately.

Instead, she leaned back slightly in her chair, eyes narrowing just a fraction.

"Last night," she said quietly, "something changed."

The assistant blinked.

"…At the Su family?"

Lin Yanyan didn't confirm it directly.

But she didn't deny it either.

Her fingers tapped lightly against the desk.

"That man…"

Her voice dropped slightly.

"Su Chen."

The name lingered in the air.

Different from before.

Not dismissive.

Not indifferent.

Focused.

She closed her eyes briefly.

And replayed the feeling.

That moment.

That faint, suffocating pressure she felt from a distance.

Not killing intent.

Not aura.

Something else.

Something that made her instincts… react.

Not fear.

Recognition.

Like standing near fire without touching it.

Dangerous.

But impossible to ignore.

Her eyes opened again.

"And he signed the marriage agreement without hesitation."

The assistant shifted slightly.

"That's… a good thing, isn't it?"

Lin Yanyan smiled faintly.

But there was no warmth in it.

"Is it?"

Her fingers tightened slightly around the pen.

"People hesitate when they don't understand what they're stepping into."

She looked out at the city.

"He didn't hesitate."

Which meant—

He knew.

Or he didn't care.

Either way…

It made him more dangerous.

A quiet knock came from the door.

"Enter."

A man stepped in, dressed in a formal suit—but his posture was different from a normal employee.

Straight.

Controlled.

A cultivator.

Low-level.

But enough.

"Miss Lin," he said respectfully. "We received confirmation from our informant inside the Su estate."

Lin Yanyan didn't turn.

"Speak."

"There was an incident last night," the man said. "An intruder."

Her eyes sharpened slightly.

"Continue."

"The intruder was at Foundation Establishment Realm, Early Stage."

That made the assistant's face change instantly.

Even Lin Yanyan's fingers paused.

That level…

Was not something ordinary security could handle.

"And?" she asked.

The man hesitated for half a second.

Then spoke.

"He's dead."

Silence.

"How?" Lin Yanyan asked.

"We don't know."

The man lowered his head slightly.

"There was no large disturbance. No extended fight. The body was found… already broken."

Broken.

Not killed in battle.

Not suppressed over time.

Broken.

Like something overwhelming had crushed him instantly.

The office went quiet.

Lin Yanyan finally stood up.

Slowly.

Her heels clicked softly against the floor as she walked toward the window.

Her reflection stared back at her.

Calm face.

Cold eyes.

But deep inside—

Something was burning brighter.

"Foundation Establishment…" she murmured.

Then she let out a soft breath.

"…and he didn't even make a sound."

The assistant swallowed.

"Chairwoman… do you think—"

"Yes."

Lin Yanyan cut her off.

No hesitation.

No doubt.

"He did it."

The assistant froze.

"But… that would mean—"

"I know what it means."

Her voice lowered slightly.

And for the first time—

There was something dangerous in it.

Not fear.

Not shock.

Excitement.

Lin Yanyan placed her hand lightly against the glass.

Far below, the city moved as usual.

But her focus wasn't on the city.

It was on someone far away.

Su Chen.

"You're hiding something…"

Her lips curved slightly.

Not soft.

Not gentle.

Possessive.

"And now you're mine."

The assistant stiffened behind her.

Something about that tone…

Was wrong.

Too intense.

Too certain.

Lin Yanyan turned slightly.

"Cancel the rest of today's meetings."

"C-chairwoman?"

"I'm going out."

The assistant blinked.

"…To where?"

Lin Yanyan didn't answer immediately.

Instead, she picked up her coat.

Her eyes gleamed faintly.

"To see my husband."

As she walked out of the office, her expression returned to its usual calm.

Cold.

Untouchable.

Perfect.

But inside—

Her thoughts moved differently now.

Not business.

Not strategy.

Focus.

On one person.

One variable she couldn't control.

And didn't want to.

Because for the first time—

She had found something that made her feel… interested.

Her fingers tightened slightly.

"Su Chen…"

Her voice was almost a whisper.

"You don't get to hide from me."

A pause.

Then softer.

"But you don't get to disappear either."

Far away, in the Su Residence—

Su Chen opened his eyes suddenly.

A faint ripple passed through his senses.

He frowned slightly.

"…Strange."

For a brief moment—

It felt like something had locked onto him.

Not with hostility.

Not with killing intent.

But with something far more persistent.

Like a flame that refused to go out.

He stood up slowly.

Unaware that somewhere in the city—

A woman had already decided something irreversible.
